the bumper looks half decent for the time of year ..if the potts horse gets a run it,ll be interesting to see the betting with meade,s and bowes..I wont make my choice till tomorrow but im favouring meades?..be interested in what any of you think?

yes agreed it looks a tricky one..
Report neill d October 4, 2013 12:14 AM BST
Agree, Betting Betting Betting, especially in Bumpers. I don't find the breeding aspect nearly as important in NH either. NH stallions are of the lower end and by their nature inconsistent, even more so than their flat counterparts. Stallions like Milan, some love, some reckon he produces overpriced rubbish. Very hard to know when NH progeny are going to come to hand either.... which brings us back to the betting.

Bowe's horse has no chance in bumper.  Was 4/1 in a 6 runner fast ground Point to Point so wouldnt imagine he is that well thought of and coming from this stable there will be no improvement in it from the first day.  Will be 7/1+ price.
Report kavvie October 4, 2013 9:14 AM BST
tom costello never looked at the breeding of a horse when buying.always looks and temperament..
Report tony57 October 4, 2013 11:38 AM BST
ive took 5/2 for meades,..i understand where youre coming from neill with the betting..but I have to disagree over the breeding..the flat as you may have more to go on? but imo breeding is just as important for the jumps..just my opinion and I put it in when im punting.

Tony 57,would being by an American sire who raced over a mile be a concern on soft ground or is there plenty of stamina on the dam side?
I see there on Timeform that he is a half brother to Jazz Messenger.

Seems to be plenty of confidence behind seasoned chaser Rare Bob reverting back to hurdles, the horse never won a hurdle race but would look reasonably handicapped on his previous best novice hurdle form, a long time ago I know!. Certainly won't mind the conditions.

Ain't seen the racing today, but from reading might Rare Bob be one to win a race or two over flights this season and sneak into the Pertemps off a nice weight. It seems to be a race where the old-timers can compete from time to time. He has a very good target trainer and a class jockey who would only have to get in close at a few........ How eye-catching was he today?

Report dj876 October 5, 2013 11:44 AM BST
I was going to start a new thread rather than bring this back up but hopefully we can stick to the racing today.
The Grade 2 chase is a fascinating race but not one I will be getting involved in,as a neutral I hope Sizing Europe goes well but with 4 realistic challengers,he is on the short side if anything.

I like Art of logistics in the beginners chase,he was an intended runner at Balinrobe a couple of weeks ago but was withdrawn due to the ground being too quick.Although beaten some long distances in the hottest of novice races last year(20 lengths behinf Jezki and Un atout)he has plenty of abiity-beating Curley Bill in a bumper and has a progressive profile.

Balnaslow has some decent PTP form(beating Ted Veale at Loughanmore) and should make a good chaser but perhaps would prefer a greater test of stamina.

Princeton Plains was a very capable hurdler and also makes his chasing debut here but with these connections there could be a long term plan.

Too Scoops-Ran an admirable race in the Galway hurdle beaten only 10 lengths and as the betting suggests rates the biggest danger to the selection,De Bromhead is excellent with a chasing debutante.
Report silvergreaser October 5, 2013 12:42 PM BST
Yeah dj there's a good chance this thread will revert to the same old bitching from the usual suspects.

I think Sizing will win today as De Bromhead likes to mop up a lot of these early graded races with Sizing so I'm sure the horse will be a lot more forward then many of his challengers, having said that its a decent contest for early October.

I'm only going to have one bet and that is Baresi in the 4.05, at the weights he should easily turn the tables with Blackwell Synergy with the jockey also claiming 7lb a 11lb pull in total. Baresi also made a mistake at the last that day and probably would've finished a couple of lengths closer?.

I'm not so sure about obvious danger The Crafty Buthcher over the 3 mile?, I do though have major reservations when I back a horse from the Byrnes stable for obvious reasons.

I'm giving Pastoral Player one more chance today at Ascot 3.50, its his first run in h/cap since May last year has been contesting group and listed races, is only 4lb higher when winning this race in 2011 and has shown most of its best form at Ascot so surely today Pastoral is a sound ew investment??.
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y October 5, 2013 12:45 PM BST
I was going to play Pastoral Player at Ascot but the ground going soft has now put me off and i'll just watch on
Report silvergreaser October 5, 2013 12:57 PM BST
The horse has shown some good form on soft premier notably a 3L 3rd of 25 to Deacon Blues at Ascot in 2011, and Deacon Blues turned out to be a pretty decent sprinter.
Report dj876 October 5, 2013 1:08 PM BST
I can certainly see why people would fancy Sizing today(2m 4f probably ideal now) and I won't be laying him because the opposition are hardly an improving lot with the possible exception of Baiey Green who might find something nearer to his Arkle form on ground with some give but Market suggests he could need the run.

Plenty of money for Baresi but it's probably the liquid late market which will be the best signal. He has plenty of form on soft ground and CB is a very capable trainer so further improvement is likely on only his second run for the stable.U'd imagine he'd over turn the form with BS but dangerous method to include Jockeys claim. 22LBs higher than his last winning hurdle mark but has been competitive of these marks - got 4lbs for his second at Listowel.

Yeah the other jockey looks like he has a bit to learn looking around him between the last 2 and then looking unbalanced in the finish.

I backed Baresi at 6/1 ew this morning with PP so not too bad, as for my doubts about TCB and the trip? not a bother too him.

Once I heard Matt Chapman was on Pastoral Player I rolled up my docket and threw into the fire place before they came out of the stalls, would stop a charging bull elephant would Chapman.
