I was under the impression that the Tote have an ongoing offer whereby they paid out at SP in cases where their dividend is smaller than the SP?
On mature reflection I think my inverted commas in the OP should have been placed over the word winnings.

was in killarney ..didnt see too many queues at the tote.id say its gone v unpopular..
They have big signs on most racecourses stating that there returns are 24% bigger than the bookmakers,they even had races sponsored at some recent meetings named 24% bigger than the bookmakers.WHAT A SHOWER OF JOKERS.......
was at Kilarney as well ,did a placepot but did'nt know that I had put in a non runner in the second race(was doing two in it).
Nothing flagged up when it went into the machine or the guy just did'nt say anything but got slip back at the reduced stake and no option to add a different horse.
