4.15 our man zebo

4.55 rock critic e/w
although the race @fairyhouse wasn't strong he impressed me with his jumping for a novice and the ground will be right up his street...if pique sous runs I'll be laying the mullins horse ..the ground has gone right against it and I,ll be amazed if it runs...

Golden wonder bet of the week runs today.
Report silvergreaser August 1, 2013 11:31 AM BST
I fancy Rock Critic too took the 10/1 in Powers this morning, but Weld is expressing worries about the ground which I find strange?.

At Fairyhouse the ground was heavy the horse won unextended.

At Galway last year the ground was soft to heavy and these were the post race comments;

"Led after 3rd, jumped well, 3 lengths clear approaching last, eased away run-in, impressive (op 8/11)"

And the horse also won at Tipp on heavy so what the hell is Weld talking about this horse should have no problem with the ground although the handicapper wasn't overly lenient after only 2 hurdle wins?.
Report Bigwillystyle August 1, 2013 11:40 AM BST
Silver it's a different story handling heavy ground against rubbish opposition in a maiden hurdle and doing it in a big field handicap. Get a grip.

Carlingford Lough didn't handle the ground yesterday. He did over hurdles but jumping hurdles in heavy is different to jumping fences in heavy.
Report silvergreaser August 1, 2013 11:45 AM BST
By Pivotal bigwill should be no worries about the ground, at the end of the day nearly all the horses would prefer better ground, whats good for the goose....
Report pa lapsy August 1, 2013 11:54 AM BST
Ger Lyons seems to be going for a very ambitous double with Brendan Bracken.
Seen plenty of Galway doubles but can never remember a Galway-Goodwood one. Awful hard race but wouldn't it be some feat.
Report wildmanfromborneo August 1, 2013 12:26 PM BST
Causes Of Causes in the big one for me.

This fellows best run was in a big field in Ascot on bottomless ground, has these conditions today.

This lad is the ultimate hold up horse was second in the race last year so goes on the course and the heavier the ground the better.

Davy Condon preferring Flaxen Fare is a draw back bearing in mind the way he is riding but Jody McGarvey is riding well and full of confidence,he also seems to be JPs jockey.

A great each way bet as there are a host of them won't handle that ground.
Report wildmanfromborneo August 1, 2013 12:36 PM BST
Shesafoxylady has got into the bumper, they withdrew Goldboy.

This is yet another mare owned by the Supreme Horse syndicate, can she be yet another winner for them, does anyone know how she rates with the exceptional looking Wexford winner.
Report pa lapsy August 1, 2013 12:47 PM BST
Thought AJM was quietly confident in his interview on ATR there and main bet on Ted Veale. Think you are making a good case for Cause of Causes Wildman and will do a small ew on him. Hard to forget how unlucky he was beaten a head in this last year and though 16lb higher, the claim will help as will the worsening conditions.

Report pa lapsy August 1, 2013 2:14 PM BST
Well clear on the ratings alright SCP,still went against him over the ground and he was a ball of sweat lto, Sizing Italy,s beating of Steps to Freedom reads well in a race tis hard to see who the ground will suit.

Wildman,
shes not as good as the mare who has just won for them.  but they do like her..im told like everyone there worried if she,ll act on this ground?
Report roadrunner46 August 1, 2013 2:37 PM BST
easiest winner to find of the galway festival rebel fitz, a horse that enjoys winningCool hatrick of wins, 21 races 12 wins now.

How big of a certainty would Alive Alive Oh have been in this listed race in Galway today on this ground..!?
Report Distant View August 1, 2013 2:52 PM BST
If a Trans Island mare out of a Carlingford Castle mare does not enjoy testing ground, it would be a very big surprise.
Report silvergreaser August 1, 2013 3:46 PM BST
The ground can't be all that bad as virtually all the 1st and 2nd favs have been winning or making the frame, Snow Queen was 2nd fav this morning.
Report tony57 August 1, 2013 4:22 PM BST
bastard..nearly had it..
Report punchestown August 1, 2013 4:25 PM BST
Tony, was Barry a bit over confident there as he left it very late to deliver his challenge?
Report workrider August 1, 2013 4:26 PM BST
Poor ride from barry , riding the winner of a p2t in that going , stays behind off a very slow pace , poor ride imo...
Report tony57 August 1, 2013 4:35 PM BST
I didn't want to say as I thought it may be pocket talking but I thought he let them get away from him in between the last 2 flights..but the guys won me plenty so ..that's racing..
Report neill d August 1, 2013 4:46 PM BST
That Zebo is a good horse, pity it ain't with a better trainer, backed him myself too Tony. Bad ride.
Report silvergreaser August 1, 2013 4:49 PM BST
I thought Lynch was taking it a little easy on the winner and then found again when Zebo came at him, best horse won no doubt.
Report workrider August 1, 2013 4:53 PM BST
MAYBE IT DID SILVERGREASER ,but still doesn't take away from the ride barry gave it ...
Report neill d August 1, 2013 4:55 PM BST
He was, but Zebo should have been closer to the pace in any case, Ballylongford will dog it if you put it to him, even though he is a stronger horse now than his bumper days. I'm on Thomas Edison here, but would be wary of Missunited.

welldone neil..but if I had anything to do with pique sous I,d be a touch upset?..all they have ever said about the horse is it needs good ground ..yet they let it run in that..i understand the race has been its aim for a while but imo..that was a poor decision to let it run...very disappointing with my pick welds..never got in it..
Report silvergreaser August 1, 2013 5:09 PM BST
Mick Winters with just a few horses stuffs the so called big guys again, great to see the little make good.

And well done Robbie Power!.
Report neill d August 1, 2013 5:09 PM BST
No I never backed Missunited Tony, was close to but didn't, went withy Thomas edison instead. I'd say I've backed her near every time she has run since she won her Bumper, and then not today.
Report neill d August 1, 2013 5:09 PM BST
He is a very very good trainer silver, target trainer, a bit in the mould of Mouse Morris.

ive got 2 more to go..but tomorrow will be a easy day for me also mate..welldone to anyone who got the winner..great horse...
Report neill d August 1, 2013 5:15 PM BST
She's a great bit of stuff alright, I should have recognised this was the real target the way she scalded off in front on her last flat run. Ah sure, can't win every day. She's on of my favs anyway and nice to see the best small trainer in Ireland win it. For Bill, Rebel Fitz and Missunited is some going for an operation that size.
Report silvergreaser August 1, 2013 5:16 PM BST
Tony missunited prefers the better ground but won, if you look at the resuts all day the market leaders were all bang to the fore so the ground probably wasn't as bad as it looked?, as for my selection Rock Critic out the back and never competitive at any stage looks like Hisaabat was the Welds first choice?.
Report neill d August 1, 2013 5:20 PM BST
She is as good on anything except fast, the slow ground helps her in 2 mile races over hurdles it seems.
Report neill d August 1, 2013 5:20 PM BST
She has won on quick ground though.
Report tony57 August 1, 2013 5:27 PM BST
you have a point silver..i was amazed mcguire had it right out the back?..on this ground you want to be handy?
Report roadrunner46 August 1, 2013 5:32 PM BST
missunited thats cracking horse, 21 races and been placed 1st or 2nd 15 times, flat and hurdles. good profile
good speed from the flat, that always makes those type of horses dangerous over the obstacles. only a 6yo. NB
was the second fav in racing post, understandble looking at the profile. well named horse.
Report tony57 August 1, 2013 5:35 PM BST
another thing, does anyone know why weld brought mcgiure in?..Robbie mc must be upset?

Gettin scary for the layers now at Galway. Any layer not losing 5 figures today is not a bookie at all in reality.

Anyone interviewing Gleeson on RTE about his horses chance?
Report neill d August 1, 2013 6:07 PM BST
Does gleeson play dumb on TV because he has had fair success with horses, it doesn't come across on TV at all.
Report pa lapsy August 1, 2013 6:10 PM BST
Haven't RTE Neill but in his role there surely ought to be a bit forthcoming in regards his own horse, or maybe not? Has no qualms in going up to others and asking them their chances.
Report neill d August 1, 2013 6:20 PM BST
Said nothing I don't think, he has a fair breeding operation by all accounts. Has the dam of Binocular and sold a few for some real big money, under no obligation I guess, but doesn't strike as one who would do the punter a favour despite all the jocularity. I'd say he knows a lot more than he lets on.

He must have sent a lot of mares to the struggling Dylan Thomas judging by the number of times he mentioned him at Royal Ascot, though.
Report pa lapsy August 1, 2013 6:23 PM BST
As i thought, surely two faced so and offers nothing to the punter, mind he was a very lucky winner.
Report neill d August 1, 2013 6:29 PM BST
He was yeah, tis the luck those connections get up there. Gleeson had a Galway Hurdle winner, was it Indian Pace I think. The weather put me off going, the lads i know up there are having an absolute beano. Books can't catch a break, i gather now that Missunited was well fancied too, I've old messages from 2 pals telling me to back her on Facebook.
Report neill d August 1, 2013 6:30 PM BST
They also said that Rebel Fitz wouldn't win yesterday though.
Report pa lapsy August 1, 2013 6:34 PM BST
Fair dues to them, good meeting for the punter so far(remember that last year was poor), hope it continues for all.
Report lustrumm August 1, 2013 8:53 PM BST
I know Gleason of old, he wouldn't spend Christmas (or at least he wouldn't when I knew him anyway)
He was as tight as a duck's fxxxy

Nothing worse than his type and they are there by the hundred load down from where he is from, the cute Country hoor that would prefer to put you wrong rather than do you a turn.
Report wildmanfromborneo August 1, 2013 9:28 PM BST
He is a good broadcaster and knows his racing which is why I suppose he also works for the BBC.
Report snap crackle and pop August 1, 2013 10:20 PM BST
Did he not even mention that he had a runner at any point today??
Report neill d August 1, 2013 10:35 PM BST
In other news, Montiridge must surely be a good thing at Goodwood tomorrow, the little bit of ease still in the ground should help him too. I think he'll travel well and win stylishly, also likely to trade v short in running if that is your style.
Report pa lapsy August 2, 2013 11:54 AM BST
I disagree with you Wildman, minor point would be i think it,s C4 he works for,as no racing on the BBC anymore but mainly:
He is employed by RTE to do the groundwork on the ring, interviews trainers and jockeys regarding their chances and the role is generally to 'help' the punter. Without seeing the coverage but seems by others who have no mention was made to his own horses chance trained by Mr Galway himself.Who wants his usual flannel? A trick missed by RTE maybe as it would have been a nice piece in any case to have covered it in some form a horse running for one of their own presenters.
Accept he pays the bills for his horse, but not to at least mention he had a chance on the program is making a mockery of the punter and is against his role.
Fwiw was backing Giantofaman in any case.
Report wildmanfromborneo August 2, 2013 12:19 PM BST
Fair points Pa
I suppose Tom Lee could have asked Brian Gleason the relevant question.
I get the reluctance though as some punters watching believe every word and were he to give his opinion and it turned out wrong he would be roundly abused.
I have a racing rule if you ask a man about his horse he is entitled to lie but if he proffers the information he is honour bound to tell the truth.

Stephen Mahon trained a winner on Wednesday Pyrus Gold Wind yet no one interviewed him, surely that was a time for Robert Hall to step in.
Report pa lapsy August 2, 2013 12:30 PM BST
Accept that in regards if he did get it wrong he could come in for abuse, though find an honest appraisal and still a loser must people/punters say fair play, another day.
Wonder now will RTE show a touching piece in the future of Mr Gleeson celebrating post race.
Do think there is a bit of hypocrisy still about it.
