Hard to get the juices flowing for this one, but a winner is a winner, and with 7 days in Ballybrit looming, a winner is needed!! I generally try to steer clear of weekend contenders from a previous weeks Major, but am making a couple of exceptions this week. Brandt Snedeker, after a quiet spell, is starting to look like the player from the early part of the season again. Only for a nightmare hour on Friday, he could have been very much involved on Sunday. His putter, in the main, looked to be back behaving at its best, and if that is the case this week, he will be hard to beat on a course where he finished 5th on his only previous visit. Always a worry coming back from the totally different conditions of a British Open, but hopefully Sneds relative freshness(only played 5 weekends in the past 14 weeks), can keep him going through Sunday evening. 14s e.w 6 places in Betvictor looks a good place to start.
The prices of  other market leaders are much easier to resist, so its to Jerry Kelly at 80-1 that I go next. Kelly has no Open hangover to deal with, and of those that didn't play last week, he is certainly one in the best form. A 4th in the John Deere was hugely promising, and he has been knocking on the door plenty recently. With some course knowledge, and of a positive variety at that, a week where the big boys may have their eyes slightly off the ball, may be the week where Kelly deservedly gets his nose in front.
Camilo Villegas, may be someone I am in danger of following over a cliff, but I am convinced he is going to strike soon, and his starting prices and promising displays are allowing for continued investment. Indeed he looked like getting involved at Muirfield halfway through Friday, but then had an atrocious back 9, which led to missing the cut by one. For the purposes of this week, that one shot miss could be a blessing. On a couple of occasions this year he has looked like contending for victory, without quite getting into the real heat of battle. He has consistently been hitting superb approaches to par 5s lately, and with them holes all reachable this week, I can see him taking them apart, and setting himself up for a very good week.
Y E Yang is someone who appeared to have totally lost his way. But recent signs are much more promising, having missed 5 consecutive cuts, he has steadily improved in each of the last 3 weeks, culminating in a very respectable finish in Muirfield. The confidence gained there, can more than counteract the potential hangover. Indeed it is probably no conincidence that Yang is beginning to find some form, with the anniversary of downing the Tiger in the USPGA fast approaching. 125-1 e.w, or 110s with the 6th place seems a value wager.
Will also have a smaller investment on Chez Reavie, the 2008 winner. Another player who has started to find some form, albeit inconsistent, lately. But where better for him to strike than at the venue of his breakthrough win(where he done me a big favourGrin, and a week that will be far more important to him than many of those taking a far bigger chunk out of the market.
GL all, and don't forget to have a pop at Deplasterers comp, a generous gesture indeed.

Loathe backing favourites in golf, but the more I look at this event the more I am drawn to Brendt Snedeker. He has some awesome stats for the year already:
26th GIR, 17th strokes gained putting, 8th scoring average plus 7 top 10's and a 1st, 2nd & 3rd in 15 events played in 2013. He was tied 11th at Muirfield and had the best scoring average out of all the field their at the par 5's. With four par 5's at this new venue, Glen Abbey, (where he finished 5th last time played here in 2008)I can't find a reason to leave him out even at the skinny price.

Charl Schwartzel has been threatening a win this past while, so am sticking with him and going for a lively outsider in Sang moon bae.

Exchange prices

Brandt Snedeker 15's W & Pl
Charl Schwartzel 23's W & Pl
Sang Moon Bae 190's W & Pl.

GL.

This is one of the best tournies on the regular tour. Always a great venue, and a few refer to it as " The fifth major "

Already said over on the golf forum that Snedeker is, for me, the stand out bet @ 14/1 top 6.

Also, I think that McDowell could have a few things to say here. Forget last week. He is in great shape, and his stats say it all. 25/1 E/W

Can't leave out Billy Horschel. 40/1 E/W

Might chuck a few bob on Justin Hicks, on here, but would want a bigger price than where he is now.

Good luck.

- Rarely touch favs in the golf but am another that is v keen on Snedeker this week like a good few

The most in form player in the world the start of the season but lost a bit of form after his injury but in his last 3 starts has bein showing big signs of revival

Great all round player and 5th wen last played here in 2009

- Daniel Summerhays has been a revelation the last few weeks

4th in the John Deere, 9th in the Greenbrier and beat in a playoff this week in the Sanderson Farms in his last 3 starts

Is an interestin price at 55/1 to be first round leader too imo, can b a fast starter (65,65,63) opening rounds in his last 3 tournaments

- Billy Horschel 35/1 - Mr Consistent this season with 7 top 10s and 17 out of 19 cuts made, won the Zurich Classic and has 2nd (Shell Houston open) 3rd (Texas Open and a 4th (US Open) also on his CV

Brandt Snedeker 14/1 ew
Daniel Summerhays 55/1 ew
Daniel Summerhays 55/1 ew First round leader 5 places
Billy Horschel 35/1 ew

and smaller on

Rory Sabbatini 100/1 ew - hit and miss player but has 2 top 10 finishes in his last 6 events
Nicholas Thompson 66/1 ew - played well wen 4th last week, final round let him down for the win
Scott Stallings 66/1 ew - has lost some form after a run of form of 4-4-2 but his price now compensates for it

Report callitasucit July 27, 2013 11:22 AM BST
Best thing I can say bout my bets, is that the 5 of them made the cut. Lingmerth dropped 3 shots in two holes, having been right in it. Sned bogeyed the two easy par 5s, when birdies are a given, then somehow his eagle putt on 18 didn't drop. Im still actually pretty keen on Villegas. He shot 7 under yet only par 3 of the par 5s. Was 5 under for last 7, including missing from 3 feet on his 17th. I think this lad has a 59 in him before the seasons end. Its ridiculous how many approaches he is stiffing lately. A round, and a tournament, will all come together soon, and I want to be on!! Will top up at 160. Had a good cut on Cirrus Des Aigles, class above to the opposition today. And think the 11-4 on Meath to beat Tyrone is the GAA bet of weekend.
Report Deplasterer July 27, 2013 12:22 PM BST
I haven't given up on Snedeker just yet, does need to go really low and hope Mahan stalls, but that can happen, topped up at 34's anyway, come what may.
Report callitasucit July 27, 2013 12:50 PM BST
Yeah, just had few extra quid on myself, he is playing better that his score suggests. Hopefully can get within 3 or 4, have a pop at it tomorrow. Yang at 4-5 in 2 ball looks standout bet, against Langley.

Heading Galway tomorrow afternoon for the week, be down in time to settle in for few pints to watch the evenings play. Be a superb start to the week.
