The first bumper in Cork tonight was won easily enough by the Christy Roche trained Scienter but behind him on a badly laid out track the Kieran Purcell trained You Can't Catch Me was making ground up the inner,he lugged in between these ridiculous spurs but came back in just in time again he lugged in but this time Bashful Beauty also hung in and poor old You Can't Catch Me hit the spur,it stopped him in his tracks but to his credit he picked up and ran on to be third.
There was a stewards enquiry and they disqualified You Can't Catch Me for leaving the course despite him gaining no advantage and having no alternative but worse again they disqualified Bashful Beauty for dangerous riding.
It was the fault of the racecourse but the usual scapegoats the jockeys were blamed,I presume they got the obligatory knee jerk ban but that can't be right.
The jockeys association have to fight back and protect their members and end this constant vindictive banning.

Very harsh for both to be DQ,Bashful Beauty was running around a bit under pressure but still had the right to be where he was,there wasn,t any intent by the jockey whatsoever and maybe it was a mistake by You Can't Catch Me to go up the inner.
Sky Lantern today got carried from one side of the course to the other at Newmarket today and got bate by Buicks whip across the face.While the stewards there gave Buick a 3 day ban for careless riding,i'm not sure he could do anything to keep the horse straight.Maybe the right answer was to have given Buick no ban and to have disqualified the horse?

Mallow Racecourse is a fine big course, and this dry spell of weather,has brought with it bone dry ground, (bar-watering),and one wonders why were they trying to save the inner ground at all. It seems a lot of courses use these kind of obstructions to mark the track for a particular race, and it also happens a lot in England. In my view this style of marking should not be used. Its dangerous. I hope the owners consider legal action to retrieve their losses. I think it was on the Curragh that I recently saw APoB's daughter forced the wrong side of a similar marker sitting out in the centre of the track. Very dangerous again I felt. It does seem that health and safety only applies to jockeys trainers and owners, never applies to the course management.
Mallow or Cork whichever you prefer is a fine racecourse and one with what is now becoming a rarity a fine sprint track.
I agree with you Pa with regards Sky Lantern should have got the race as she would have won without the interference also Buick didn't deserve a ban because it was completely accidental.

Buick had his whip in the so called right hand so to all intents and purposes did nothing wrong but still in order for appeasement imo(to keep who happy exactly?) got a ban for no jockey could have kept the horse from veering.Very,very likely i think Sky Lantern would have won if Elusive Kate kept a straight course. Happens a lot that a jockey gets banned for what the horse decides to do and no one can help that.
Going off the point a little in regards your opening post but it would be Mallow from Corkonians. Nice track and always thought it was like Haydock in reverse(for whatever reason),good viewing and while i haven't been for a bit,must change that.
Jay remember that race and agree the wings of the hurdles are a safety concern, don't know is there a way round that though.

From my twenty odd years bringing horses to tracks iv yet to see as many break down as last night. Watchin drumfire come back was a shame. He was fooked.
Sorry to hear that Jumping , I MISSED MOST OF THE RACING AS I WAS OUT ,if what you say about the ground is true , surely trainers noticed this , and should have taken their horses out ....

I didnt see the race in question so can't comment on the relative facts of the bans because for some reason ATR are not showing any replays on their website?.
But c'mon wildman if Irish jockeys get it any easier they might as well throw away the rule book altogether, I'll say it again compared to other racing jurisdictions they get away with blue murder.
