Small fields the order of the day at Leopardstown but interesting racing nonetheless.
Perhaps 6.45
This filly made her debut in a decent Curragh maiden,she was well drawn but missed the break she was then switched to the outside where despite running green she ran on well,looks a good thing but is priced accordingly.
Neophilia 8.30.
This filly won two days ago in Gowran over nine and a half furlongs,she is like most Teofilios improves dramatically on better ground,the further they went in Gowran the further she went away.I doubt if her five pound penalty will stop her.
Train Of Thought. 9.00
This gelding has far and away the best form,second to Missunited the best where there was a huge gap back to the third also second behind Cul Baire a horse Bolger took to Ascot.What makes the price for this fellow is the ground the two runs cited have been on ground with give and he is a Sadlers Wells,the ground will be fast at Leopardstown but Train Of Thought won his maiden hurdle in Galway on good ground in Galway and his run behind Recital at Navan was also on good ground so he could easily handle it.
If by any chance they have over watered or it rains tonight and the going changes,have your life on him.

A small worry granted although he seems to have turned the corner,his three runners last night all were placed and all ran well.
Weld has had 6 winners from his last 40 runners,not too bad.
Train of thought is a pig tho,tail was swishing like a windmill at Gowran.
I hope he comes there swinging off it(1.5 would be ideal) because he will find nothing.

I never noticed that at Gowran nor did I ever see other signs of temperament,he is slow alright but the opposition tonight are even slower.

He has worn blinkers on his last 6 runs,on 5 of his 7 runs on the flat he has traded in running at evens or shorter and been beaten.
There is a chance he could outclass them Wildman but for me he looks far from a straight forward ride.

The Dundalk race was over ten furlongs and as I already said he is slow but he has an extra four furlongs to travel tonight.
I am slightly taken aback by two of ye coming up with this temperament worry and would welcome other opinions even though I am pot committed.

I am glad you told me as I never saw it myself although Weld is fond of blinkers and I think his lack of speed may have caused the short prices.

Race 2) Intensified 4.5 Some change from being 1.2 on Sunday. Must have 3 legs tonight.
Race 3) Perhaps 1.51 Never a good idea to back at odds on.
Race 4) Rain God 3.35 The headgear is on.
Race 5) League Of Nations 3.6 Looks solid to me.
Race 6) Neophilia 2.42 Very short for a handicap but more often than when mandatory penalty the animal will win.
Race 7) Cullentry Royal 2.02 Relying on WMFB's selection to bail me out, but would be worried that Weld's will have Galway as it's primary objective.

Well that last race was interesting to say the least. 
Fiasco, what made it worse, there was a couple of hundred up at 28,s with about a mile to go and i left it.

Its certainly looked bad but it would be more a case of this 50/1 shot will surely come back to us rather than failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures of obtaining their best possible placing?, and been amateurs they're easy targets for the stewards, in fact if you look back on the last furlong or so Mangans mount is not making up anymore ground in fact it looks as if the winner is startng to pull away again, maybe the best horse won even if it was an unconsidered no hoper?.
A horse slipped his field,some amateur riders slept for it a genuine mistake yet the stewards ban them,ridiculous.
The riders behind were clearly guilty of an injudicious ride but I cant find mention of that concept in the Rulebook so maybe the Stewards preferred to use the 'non trier' rule instead to base their bans. It was very poor judgement and some of them were experienced enough as amateurs to cop on quicker but it was a genuine mistake as WMFB says. Limestone Lad won similarly at Christmas a few years ago and the jockeys in behind all copped bans but interestingly they succeeded in rescinding the bans on appeal when it was proved that none of them had an earthly on previous form of beating Limestone Lad and they rode to obtain their best possible placing by ignoring the good thing.
I thought these days were behind us to be honest but so Rancid has the game gone in Ireland now that it is no longer worthy of comment.
I have seen a fair few "slipped the field" races in my time but this one went straight in at number 1. To give those that didn't see an idea of how bad it was the winner was coming up the straight as the others were coming to end of the back straight and they still were not giving full chase.

Having read the hysteria and the stupidity on the racing forum concerning the 9.00 at Leopardstown you appreciate this place more.
I know we have our own non gambling lunatics but they are in the minority.
I don't believe a jockey should be suspended for anything other than corruption,there job is too hard as it is and to emphasise this just consider Brian Toomey.

Rarely go on the main forum myself,almost on a par with the football forum, saying that there are a few knowledgeable people there,most have been shouted down.
Think the stewards are between a rock and a hard place Wildman,there was an outcry and rightly though accept it is a rare occurence. Don't agree with taking their livelyhood away from them either,lesser names aren,t that well paid, but in regards what happened last night it was ill judged rides by them. not a lot of alternatives for the stewards really,a fine wouldn,t be right either for their mistake.If they didn,t do anything they would be lambasted as well.

Having read the quotes on the Racing Post site, it is clear Katie Walsh reckons she has done nothing wrong. I don't particularly dislike anyone in the Irish racing fraternity, but I sense at times that they would like the game all to themselves. Give it a few years and it looks like they will get it because I don't know where the next generation of owners is coming from. It is a great sport, but the attitude of a number of the participants stinks.
After the race, Jane Mangan commented: "I was flat out for the last six furlongs and couldn't get any closer to the winner." Katie Walsh said: "I rode to my instructions. My horse had been off for a long time. I was told to take my time and win if I could. It just didn't happen."
For rider Alan Wells, it was his first winner on the track and winning trainer Keith Watson was jubilant, but offered his own commentary on proceedings. "I blame all of the other jockeys. Who gives a three mile chaser a two furlong start?! They got what they deserved."

They gave him too much rope end of story Wildman. there is no one here wants to see them hung, drawn and quartered, but a bit of humility in admitting they got it wrong wouldn't go amiss.

Jimeen I think it was made an observation that most jockeys wouldn't be great dinner company a few weeks ago, I'd say he is probably right. Her brother Ruby can get away with that tone because he is exceptional, Katie is just good for what she is.
Her father's 'mongrel' comment re Paul Nicholls was pretty enlightening on the esteem with which the Walsh family holds itself, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree for sure.

There is incredible hostility towards the Walshes here,seems unfair to me I don't know them but they are a talented close family Ted is down to earth and knows his racing Ruby is possibly the best jump jockey of all time,you are probably not allowed say this but I think Katie is a little honey as well as being a talented jockey,I wish them continues success.

You seem to have more lead in your pencil these days, Borneo, good to see.
Nothing against the Walsh family Wildman, but Ted is anything but 'down to earth'. That is an affectation I think. He is prone to pontification and calling someone a 'mongrel' implies that you are above them, which is funny as Nicholls is self-made to the best of my knowledge and has achieved a hell of a lot more in his training career than Ted has.
What's the problem here?? None of the jockeys bar the one on the winner gave their mounts the chance to obtain it's best possible position so have been penalised by the stewards, seems fair enough to me.

I have no problem with how it was dealt with, but the fact Katie and Jane think they have done nothing wrong means it is likely to happen again and it could cost me money.
The form of that race working out nicely both Cullentry Royal and Train Of Thought winning tonight in Ballinrobe.

Depends on the price but will be a monster lay for me.
If Writers Block were to run in the weakest race of the year I would be a layer as what happened at Leopardstown was just a once off.
