With the quality of the  Irish contingent going over I hope some of the greyhound lovers on here will agree that it deseves a thread on the Irish forum. Really strong Irish entry with all our top trainers taking over there best to try their luck at this big big pot. I think we have a huge chance of snagging this years Derby, and an Irish winner looks a bet. Also we could easily find ourselves with half the finalists such is the quality of dog travelling over. Its a long road though and there will be plenty thrills+spills before the final. Sure to be great few weeks and does anyone have any fancies ?

Kicks off this weekend............

Paul Hennessy is down one as his Allstar is out injured, pulled a muscle in a gallop. Really unlucky especially with that savage sprint run in KK., the other day.Todays RP is full of bookies prices on the various markets, like top Irish, reach the final etc. Coral go 6/4 an Irish winner, bit short maybe.......

K.King will be best of the Irish.
Report tips • May 30, 2013 4:28 PM BST
unreal early paced dog but value is well gone
Report GANT007 • May 30, 2013 10:48 PM BST
Value gone since AP McCoy and the boys bought into Kereight King.
It's a very good race. Knockglass Billy might get through a few rounds and @33/1 and 40/1 could be worth a few quid e/w. Money Talks is another nice dog at a price.
Report irishbookmaker • May 31, 2013 9:51 AM BST
King 18/1 with powers now. Still think that is value. Cant see him getting into any trouble until the last 24.  1/4 first 6 will look big then.
Report JayTrumpOldTomDubbl • May 31, 2013 12:02 PM BST
Best of luck irish with that, I also like Money Talks as i remember the trainer telling all that the world was his oyster after an impressive win in Curraheen last year. He also has a win over vic so just hoping he might take to the track as the Derby is really so open, all the heats on tv 2night.............
Report jimeen • May 31, 2013 2:45 PM BST
Great competition this, this was always the real Derby and thankfully this looks a very good year again with a stronger than normal Irish challenge.
Report kavvie • May 31, 2013 3:28 PM BST
most doggie men would say the irish derby a truer test?.the bend at wimb is very hard to figure and consequently theres na unreal amount of luck involved..and irish derby is more valuable?
Report never give up • May 31, 2013 6:42 PM BST
the irish derby is the real derby
Report jimeen • May 31, 2013 7:29 PM BST
Used to follow the dogs years ago, only keep an eye on results these days, havent bet one in years. Since the irish derby went to 550,they are 2 completely different events and the irish version most definitely seems to attract better dogs in the latter years. This year though seems to be somewhat of a fightback for Wimbledon as it looks particularly competitive this year. 30 years ago there was only one derby and it wasn't the Irish one.
Report trap six • May 31, 2013 11:05 PM BST
watched the heats tonight, wimbledon way too narrow, trap 1 introuble straight away and if all dogs don't keep a straight line, well its pure luck, however as it progresses that will sort itself out as the machines will take over hopefully, overall a lot of luck is needed, you have to say the 550 at shelbourne is a true,er (grammer/splelling?) test of an animal...
anyway I must say ballymac vic was impressive, kept a straight line, ran first bend verywell and kicked on down the back....he keep doing that and it will basically be "catch me if you can!"
Report kavvie • May 31, 2013 11:12 PM BST
agree with that .ballymac will be hard stop with average luck.keright king ran well also..pat curtin over first hurdle!!

Money Talks is in T1 and I dont like that one trap for our runners, Rngtown walked from T1 last night and also Frazers dog from T1 slow away, so for 2night--- Sky, Rumble, and Loner (suited to red) for the treble, and surely MT (even from T1), will go through for my ante-post.......
Report JayTrumpOldTomDubbl • June 7, 2013 6:53 PM BST
First batch of second rounds tonight so no more back door for anyone, first 3 now or your derby journey ends......... every body seems to want to be with South Armagh, tonight but he's into 2.54 now, all the 3's and 2's long gone......he's in T6 and should have a huge chance after a great run last week. Vic is in T5 in his heat and needs to 'ping'.......... Droopys Jet should improve from last weeks run to win his heat. A great night sports and its on Sky tonight. (pity its so dam hot)......Laugh... the goodnews man warns that quite a few hot-pots got turned over in the 2nd round of 2012, so beware backers of Vic and co.shorties.............

Even Pistol Taggart now takes aim not only at putting a proper track in South London but also fancies the 5/4 Ireland to beat England.....too late Tagggy boy we got better, great runs tonight from our team, and lots more to come. South Armagh gone west, too slow away tonight.......... Jet+Vic were awesome and looking forward to tomorrow night heats with Shaneboy Alley, Screen Critic, and Money Talks of interest.......

Semi-Final stage and we have 3 left in, so a decent chance of victory for Ireland. Good racing last night and I thought Droopy's Jet was brilliant, and he is my pick for outright victory. Vic hasn't done a lot wrong, and will have plenty of support. As will the Sugar Ray,(happy days for team Fahy after O'Gorman's win at Windsor Monday night). However with his customary slow start Sugar Ray needs a clear run from the back to hold a chance of Derby success. Amazing to hear Eske being knocked after his win in the qt. final, and good clock too. He's dangerous but also cute Charlie Lister has 2 in the semi's. Lots of early with the re-seeded Brittles, but goes up a further rung of the class ladder here in the semi. Looking forwards to Saturday night, and it is not yet too late to get on Frazier Black's dog at around 11/4, for the outright.
Report pa lapsy • June 19, 2013 10:37 AM BST
Not a doggy man Jay,so be gentle with me.
Saw the Eske race and while he still may have won thought he was a bit lucky with 4 and 6 hampering each other, take on board the time was good which is fair enough.
Good thread and always try to watch the final. GL with your pick.

Watched this on Sky last night & though not a doogy man either thought that the 1 dog, I believe called Droops Jet, was very impressive, will probably throw a few quid on him before saturdays semis, around 7/2 mark I think.
Report JayTrumpOldTomDubbl • June 19, 2013 12:19 PM BST
Sometimes it is more prudent to wait, and on mature reflection, Wink I would advise waiting for the final draw, as Frazer's dog needs inside box, and not many wide seeds left.I thought Kate Miller was brilliant last night and gorgeous as always. Even went as far as giving a winner (dog that is) a cool drink on the presentation roster. Should Droopys Jet qualify, along say with Vic+Eske, well it will be open enough betting...........

I watched the final of it Jay, I was shocked, Wimbledon looked in such a state of disrepair. Three girls sang and behind them showed an empty ground for what looked like 4/5's of the stadium. Seemed more of a crowd at Romford on a Saturday night 25 years ago. Accept that historically greyhound racing is on a downward spiral but tonight seemed to really lack the atmosphere i associated it with.
Report Deplasterer • June 29, 2013 10:56 PM BST
Agree Pa, I always remembered a heaving saturday final night, would have seen more at the brandywell dogs probably on Friday nite, lifford gone the same way, sad. Great final though, droopys draw seemed to beat him from my limited knowledge.
Report JayTrumpOldTomDubbl • June 30, 2013 11:07 AM BST
Yes, Wimbledon is in a state of dis-repair. Paschal Taggart is the great white hope for this place, otherwise Greyhound Racing in London is surely history. Fraser Black is quoted as saying that the car park is full of broken glass, so hopefully PT succeeds and builds a new stadium there.
Very, very disappointing for the Irish, with good old Charlie doing the job again out of T1, just like Taylors Sky. Mind you CL had compared Sidaz Jack to Taylors. So Galway track is now the place to buy off, after this dog made its debut there, and was quickly shifted to the great Charlie. Ballymac Vic tried his hardest but just could not get by the leader. Now Droopy's Jet, well for him it seemed to be one race too much. Failed to man-up at the first and it was curtains. He mostly likes to front run in any event. Ballymac Vic came out of this Derby with his reputation enhanced, and will be the one to beat in the Irish Derby.
Report workrider • June 30, 2013 3:59 PM BST
Jay , I backed ballymac and i was very disappointed with him , he took a little bump at the first and seemed to pack it in imo...Maybe hes one of those dogs that need to lead ...I'd be laying him come derby time...
Report JayTrumpOldTomDubbl • June 30, 2013 4:03 PM BST
WR the draw decided the race. If ballymac was inside Sidaz he would have beaten him. But Ballymac carries a middle seed tag so that was never going to happen. Droopy's Jet is a front runner in this top grade. WR., you were unlucky and SP will bring out the best in him............
Report workrider • June 30, 2013 4:19 PM BST
Needs to lead though and not sure to stay the 55o imo Jay....

Report JayTrumpOldTomDubbl • June 30, 2013 10:07 PM BST
Ballymac Vic has serious form over 550yds at Shel Pk.  He has 29.44, 29.46/47/51/62 done over the trip. No stamina doubts. He's with a good man, and after a nice rest he can come back fresh and be a live contender.

Well done pf with Tominator, happy days.............
