lads I wonder can anyone help with this one
I went into a ladbrokes office Saturday morning to put a lucky 15 on, while there a race from Towooba came up on the screen showing a list of runners and the prices beside them so I wrote this bet

above is exactly how I wrote the bet, everything was/is correct, Hyde Park won at 9/2. went to the counter, handed in the ticket and the lad behind the counter said "We don't take bets for towoomba and proceeded to give me my €30 back, there were no signs up anywhere saying they don't take bets at towooba anywhere in the shop, I took a small video on my phone to keep for future reference. I rang the customer service explained what happened.
Denise kindly told me "no we should not have taken that bet sir sorry we can refund the €30"
I asked Denise, did ladbrokes take many bets at towooba and if they did, did they call back the customers that backed the losers to give them there money back, no answer from Denise, how are people supposed to know not to bet on towoomba and even worst why the hell are they showing it, they said they would call me back in a hour or two and they never bothered
I normally would just take my €30 back and put it down to experience but this has pissed me off I want to take it to the small claims court as I was told this was the only way to get paid.
any advise much appreciated

I was told by a retired clerk of the court thats as long as there were no mistakes on the docket on my behalf the judge would instruct laddies to pay me and if they did not pay me I could object to their license

I'm incensed with this robbery , imo , from those kind caring bookies , Honestly how often have we placed a bet at the last minute and watched it get beat , throw our docket on the floor and walk out , Yet i read time after time of situations like the above , They have millions just laying around year after year from punters not been made aware of what the THE NUMBER ONE PUNTER suffered ...Bets that could not win been taken , again imo , simply because they know you'll walk out if not a winner ..They don't even have the courtesy to give these unclaimed bets to charity ...I hope you take them to the small claims court and highlight the pure greed of these parasites of racing...

I'm no expert but I doubt the small claims court involve themselves in gambling disputes.
The said firm are dispicable in the way staff do not inform punters if their bet was a second late.The only way the punter knows is if the bet wins and they are offered a refund.If it loses they do not realise that they were not even on.

tolmi I was told the small claims do all contract disputes but I will go as far as I can with it I know it's only €150 but it's the signs not up in their shops and blatantly letting people put bets on at that meeting when they know they will not pay them if they win an dwill not contact them if they lose, nice work if you can get it,
just get a letter from ur solicitor informing them of ur objection

You can object to their licence without a judgement.As gambling debts are not legally enforceable you will not get a judgement against them in any case.

In the meantime , put the info out there on the social media scene . None of the companies like being bad mouthed on F**ebook and the like , sometimes it gets more action than direct e-mails etc .
Was the price on THEIR screen along with the name of the horse OR WAS IT THE TELEVISION SHOWING THE RACING

Forget about the small claims, write into ATR, send in your video and laddies will cough up without delay.
The last thing u should do is what db1974 suggests as my feeling is that strictly speaking laddies are right centrally and are not set up to take bets on it yet but will be soon.
It is incompetence no more that caused this issue but by the computer in laddies they would have no means of settling the bet.
I do agree though the amount of money they snaffled at that meeting last Satruday must run to thousnands in the UK. On to pof that there was racing on all there all morning. This is Saturday night racing in Australia and is huge.

wasnt on a lads screen just the sis feed had this happen to me before. but thankfully had a manager with common sense who manually settled it as a winner even tho they didnt take bets on it. theres just no common sense in shops anymore fcuking joke it is. they all have settlers on there computers wouldnt have taken that much to sort it instead of all this hassle now.
Its sounds like it was on the SIS TV in the shop rather than the Laddies Screen system the Customer service girl was just going through the motions with you and probably hasn’t the wherewithal to sort it out for you
If I was you I would contact the local Supervisor/Area manager and explain your problem provided the bet was kosher with regard to been (on-time etc) I would be amazed if you were not fixed up

i think the worst part of this story is that if the thing lost there would have been nothing about it.how many losing bets were struck on races at this track all across laddies in ireland and britain?are ladddies actively seeking out the people who had these void bets?..as ray burke said one time like fcuk they are

The reason they are not that anxious to take bets on Towooba is because horses can be 9/2 on the shows and maybe odds on on betfair. I know of somebody who backed a horse that ran in Towooba with an independent firm at 8/1 that was 2/5 on betfair at the time. The prices bear no resemblance to the horses realistic chance. You can be absolutely certain that the original poster had checked betfair before investing and there is more than likely some signage to suggest that prices cant be taken. I have seen some place in South America where the prices on the screen cant be taken in Powers one day i was in one of their shops. How did the original poster decide to pick out Hyde Park in the first place ?,anyone ever think of that ? . The next time Towooba is on maybe you should try some small independent if you can find one,because as far as i know the bigger firms keep an eye on betfair closely nowadays.
jimeen he only had 30e on it?wasnt a coup or anything.he was just in there from what i can gather and chances a 30e bet like a lot of us often do.id say it was an impulse bet.if they dont wanna lay horses there why show prices and tv coverage?they should turn it off if they dont want to lay bets at it.not take bets ansd void them when they win.i dont doubt what ur saying about betfair prices etc,but thats not the punters fault
Kavvie,gambling is changing by the day. Firms dont mind you taking 5/2 a horse thats gone 2/1,because they know you will be getting paid 2/1 if it wins,likewise they wont care if you bet on something you cant because the best you can do is get your money back. The reason for the 30 euro play is because it is an attempt to get on under the radar,and you dont think that somebody who has an account here for 8 years is actually going to even look at Towooba never mind having a bet in it without some sort of edge.

Having thought about this I would be amazed if they didn't have small print somewhere stating that no bets would be accepted from Toowoomba and that any bets accepted in error would be void.
this is a pure case of paddy trying to be smart...it didnt work out for ya so just let it go..the price you took off the screen was a super tab price at a country track where unlike the city tracks they have fixed odds now...you wouldnt be able to place the bet and take the price anywhere in oz so why should paddy think he has the right to take it here and get paid...seriously nothing wrong with trying but sadly those days are well and truely gone...

You would think at 11.00 in the morning the cashier would have a cursory look at the docket and have been able to tell you there and then whether it was allowed, very poor staff nowadays who have little interest in the job but to be fair their pay is small so why should they.wasn,t always the case though.

The number one punter,leave it out now please. If you were a regular losing punter they may well have paid you,but you were quite obviously trying it on with them and you werent a regular at all,so you have no chance of getting anything.

kavie you are correct, I asked the girl whom I spoke to if They had contacted anyone who had a losing bet on these races and there was a deafening silence and jimeen thinks I am the one trying it on 
Lesson learned. In ladbrokes at 11am betting €30 in tombawomba or wherever, as Jimeen says it GA you need to go to.

also im 100% certain that 9/2 you took was the price on the SIS screen in the blue box to the right of the pics.
Wether the punter writes the meeting on their docket is completely irrelevent. Certain you cant void a bet for that reason.

Bottom line is that the bookmaker needs to show something in their rules stating it does not accept bets at this particular meeting or something more general which covers the particular meeting. Dont know why there is all this talk about solicitors. Just ask the bookmaker to show you their rules which back up voiding the bet.
I dont bet on horses and probably frequent betting shops less than a few times a year. Last horse bet i had was a few years ago in Dublin while at a football match with friends who went in to do their football bets. According to Jimmen i must have knew something because i am a professional punter but i had a score on an even money shot at some irish meeting. Tell you how much i knew. I never even read the form or knew who the jockey was. Anyway, the horse won but when i went up to collect my winning it was voided. It was a 5 furlong race but i was on a few seconds late because someone was infront of me when placing the bet.
The race in question took a few minutes to sort out the winner as it went to a close photo finish. I said to the clerk you had several minutes to tell me my bet was void before the result. There were only a few people in the shop. I had no gripe witht he rules as i was on a few seconds late but i was annoyed that if my bet lost they would not have told me it was a void bet. And, it was not as if they would not have known whose bet it was as there was only a few people in the shop.

da fallon factor the reason I did not put towooba down was there was only one 10.57, I don't know why you ask that if I had just wrote the name of the horse down with the price 9/2 that should have been enough for the staff to work out the bet

It looks suspicious to me as jimeen has pointed out, so we're to believe you are that much off a 'mug punter' to believe you where just in the betting shop looked up at the screen and saw a race from Timbucktwo about to go off and had 30 quid on it just for the sake of it as you where there, you really need to be looking at your betting in that case.

I would not fancy going into a betting shop owned by jimeen or premier fantasy. They would not be taking any bets by the sound of it in case they got stunf by someone putting on a score. You probably could,nt even read the racing post.
I don,t think thats true Paddletoe, pointed out early in the thread that there are big price discrepancies between the screen prices and the bf price with the meeting.

A few things to note here,firstly the original poster knew what he was at,of course he did. Another is that this Towooba stuff is more than likely included in the SIS service so they have no choice but to show it. But the biggest thing is and thats what some people seem to be struggling with,is that the cashier wont give two fukks what the punter writes down the docket,they can write any horse,any place or any price and it wont matter to them,as it is all automated nowadays. It is computerised now and they will simply scan the docket afterwards and that will tell them whether or not its a winner. Betting and indeed betting shops will have changed markedly in the modern era,they are not easy to win from,they simply wont let you. They use lots of little gimmicks and tricks now that they didnt use one time,and taking bets on events that they dont recognise is just one of them. But blaming the girl behind the counter is a nonsense,its nothing to do with them.
jimeen in fairness to the original poster i was in shop for race and watchin betfair. the horse was about 8/1 on here and came and beat its stablemate who was 6/4 on show and youd lay at around 5/4 on here. and if he was wide enough to be watching betfair and betting on it hed have known ladbrokes stopped takin bets on it about 2 years ago

IT might seem hard to you Number one but Jimeen is right, JUST PUT IT DOWN TO A BAD EXPERENCE M8..AND BEWARE OF RACTRACKS WITH STRANGE NAMES .
Well, the bet was obviously placed in good faith whatever jimeen and others think. Funny way to try and nick a price when the horse was bigger odds on here.
Fair enough if the bookmaker has clear rules excluding bets at certain meetings but the least the customers deserves is the courtesy of the bookmaker showing him the rules. Expect he would be happy with that.

The number one punter,sincerest apologies,as you said i have jumped to completely wrong conclusions. If as dj876 says it betfair'd sp at 5.93,then you were not getting any great bargain either with the 9/2,so you can quite rightly feel aggrieved. Forgive me but i think i would not have been alone in assuming that anybody with an account here for 8 years would not have been actively involved in Towooba without some sort of edge,apologies again.
I was a bit suspicious as well no1 punter, i apologise as well, the bf sp is the crux point, sincerely hope you get satisfaction from a very dubious practice that the firm in question are employing by showing the race,allowed to bet but cannot win.gl with this.
Write them an e-mail and explain in nice terms you acted in good faith when you placed the bet. Say as the race was on their tv screens and prices quoted for the race it would never have crossed your mind that the particular race would be void. I would say if i had known it would be voided what motive would you ever have of doing the bet other then it being in complete good faith. After all, if you knew it would be voided you would by the same logic never have expected to profit from the bet. Furthermore, as the horse was bigger odds elsewhere you had no motive in trying to get a better price which again backs up your bet was placed in good faith.

Fair dues to jimeen and pa for apologising. Ladbrokes should pay out on bet as a winner as they failed to advertise fact that they weren't taking bets on this meeting.
o.k lads I started this thread to see if anyone knew how I could sort it out and I take on board backing in a horse race with no form in a god forsaken place no one ever heard of but it was a spur of the moment bet while I was doing a lucky 15

As I said on here I rang the customer care and asked them to give me a cheque for the winnings which is €135 made out to the Crumlin childrens hospital and they declined
so Its the solicitors in the morning I will let people on here know what he advises me

this post has blown me away, id never in a million years have believed laddies or anyone wouldnt honour a race on sis during opening hours on the main screen, which it was..
im an indo ,and have takin an odd bet on the ozzie stuff.. its a 1.01 shot that the race in question is in the programme, laddies run with, its in mine every saturday morning.. along with about 2/3 other ozzie meetings....

This is a scandal and must be highlighted in the interest of all persons who enter a laddies shop. How dare they take your bet, mention nothing before the race is ran that they don't take bets on this screened meeting. Shame on them, they created cartoon racing of their own, virtual sports of all description, numbers and roulette games every minute. They employ staff and give them basic training.
I went into their shop in Navan at 10am a few days before the Ladbroke H/cap hurdle was to be ran and asked for a price on an intended runner, the girl couldn't find the race anywhere so told me it must be suspended and to call back later. I suggested that she ring H.Q and find out when a price might be available showing her that prices were still being quoted on oddschecker. She told me it wasn't policy to ring H.Qs. I told her I didn't live in the town and traveled specifically to back horse. She had no interest in helping me at all. I left and rang their customer service and bloke hung up on me. I never dealt with such imcompetence in all my life.
You have every right to highlight this incident and show the world what laddies are really like.

just to let people know laddies have basically told me to fook off and do what you want, so I sent a registered letter to the super in lucan police station stating out my case and informed him I wish to object to Ladbrokes licence.

They don't take bets on this market in this manner, they accepted it in error, they have apologised and refunded the bet.
I can understand how it pisses u off, especially as you would never have got your money back had the horse lost. We all know they are scurrilous knaves and you need to thread carefully with them. Put it down as a learning experience and move on.

no OZY I will not, I will run it out even if I have to get a solicitor to represent me in court.
What is your case, what laws do you perceive to have been broken and what exactly is your objective in going to court?
How much money are you prepared to waste on solicitors without first having developed a clear picture of the above?

I see in today's racing R/POST Billies are in trouble over laying D.A. to win the 2,000/derby double ...Using the RELATED CONTINGENCY RULE to try and bale them out ...Again it begs the question , would they have contacted the punters who had the bet with them if D.A. HAD BEEN BEATEN IN THE GNS ......TO REFUND THEM THEIR MONEY ...I'LL LEAVE THAT QUESTION OPEN....

Do they pay a turnover levy on such non-bets
Does a settling clerk settle such a bet as a loser or a void bet. If it is settled as a void bet is every effort made to inform the punter. Generally such bets would be placed when shops are quiet due to lack of mainstream racing

Have you returned to the shop in question to see if there is any notice in the shop stating that they do not accept bets in Toowoomba?
yes tolmi I took photos and video by phone of 5 ladbroke shops including the shop I put the bet on and no signs up in any of them, I also managed to put bets (which were losers) on in two of the five shops, hung around for 1/2 an hour to see would the cashier call me for my back, nothing not a dickie bird, she or the system did not even know I put the bets on,
I think the judge will be interested in my video footage if it gets that far,

why havent lads got this sorted out after 2 weeks?simple.they have a nice little earner .a no risk way of making money.im sure if they wanted to stop showing races from timbooktoo or anywhere else they could?they are stealing money from innocent punters.simple as that.
It's incompetence Kavvie, nothing more nothing less. Go into a paddies shop in the morning and you will Toowomba featured with fixed odds, commentary etc.. Laddies are too incompetent to do same

Not really Ozy, they told him they do not take bets at Towoomba, himself and his friends went back to different shops and put bets on Towoobma,they were taken and stamped, timed, they lost. they hung around the shop for the staff to give them their money back but they siad nothing, they have phone video and the receipts of the morning.
As said on here they cannot have give the winners back their money when they go collect and say nothing to the losers.

I will have to keep that off here but needless to say the legal people were delighted he was willing at the beginning of this matter to donate all winnings to the childrens hospital fund and laddies said no full stop.

Ozy I will keep the thread informed what happens, getting dispute solved first then angling for improper trading down the line. It was blatant, we got in touch with a guy who got his money back 3 months previous same shop so they had three months to fix it up but they did n't. how many losing dockets thrown on the floor in three months?
