I really fancy it as well, performance at Leopardstown was very special and the best form on offer. I am having a mixed week but really confident he can win.
Report lapsy pa March 14, 2013 9:51 PM GMT
I,m with him as well, thought his last run was very impressive as well,Mullins had no hesitation nominating  Diakali after his second win for the triumph, hard to see him turning it around.
Report silvergreaser March 14, 2013 10:42 PM GMT
Bit of a mixed message from his last race granted he won easy, Blood Cotil (4th) Ruacana (3rd) ran well enough in the Fred Winter finishing 6th and 7th respectively albeit fairly well beaten, the well beaten 5th that day at Leopardstown the disingenuously campaigned Flaxen Flare hosed up in the Fred Winter, suggests if he was in that sort of form at Leopardstown he'd surely have frightened the life out of Our Conor on a strict reading of the form?.

For the most part the Hughes horses have been performing with great credit all week so that has to be positive when you consider Our Conor was by far his best chance of the meeting going in.

Paul Nichols is having a mare of meeting thus far which hardly screams back Far West, as for Henderson I know he's had 3 winners 2 certs and an outsider, but other than that his horses have in the main been disappointing.

I would be tempted by Stocktons Wing who wasn't beat miles by Our Conor at nearly 6 times the price but its ridden by McCoy who would stop a freight train at the moment.
I like the look of Hidden Justice 16/1 for in form trainer John Quinn bolted up in his 2 runs to date, I know they were only class 4 but the form has worked out reasonably well and with Countrywide Flame running a cracker in the Champion might be worth chancing?.
Report Newmanix March 14, 2013 11:08 PM GMT
trainer insists he wont like too much cut in the ground, so fingers crossed the rain stays away for him.
Report db1974 March 14, 2013 11:28 PM GMT
I think Diakali might reverse placings with him as long as they don't try to make all tomorrow. Suicidal stuff trying to win something like the Triumph from the front.
Report db1974 March 14, 2013 11:32 PM GMT
Just had another look at that Leopardstown race there. In fairness Our Conor was very impressive so might have a little saver on him.

Just in case like!

Will be a lot of people following this one until its beaten .  Very impressive from horse and jockey , missed it myself although I fancied it .  No bet , apart from a little in running .  Price actually put me off backing it  , couldn't believe the price .

OK punchestown, he does look smallish, though very neat, bit like Monksfield I thought, but you could be right he could be another GC, probably find though that it may have been a poor Triumph, but boy was he impressive..........good man tony...........

Racing Post in running analysis;

"Chased leader and always travelling well, upsides 2 out, soon led on bit, effortlessly drew clear between last 2, pushed out when well in command run-in, impressive"

Impressive? absolutely!
Report lapsy pa March 16, 2013 11:05 AM GMT
On a line through Diakali he is still improving and he has shown that in each run to date. Some potential with him. Think you have put it very well Jadeturtle.
Report silvergreaser March 16, 2013 11:25 AM GMT
Hurricane Fly is a genuine grade one performer but if put in against Istabraq he would'nt have seen which way the great Istabraq went.

Our Conor bar injury the world is at his feet.
Report kavvie March 16, 2013 11:42 AM GMT
whats his best price for nx yrs champion?
Report silvergreaser March 16, 2013 11:48 AM GMT
Kav, you can get 5/1 Hurricane, 6/1 Conor and 8/1 The New one and MTOY'S.

By xmas Conor will be 6/4.
Report kavvie March 16, 2013 11:57 AM GMT
or 66/1!?...usually triumph winners stay/are suited by further?although i think hes an exception to the rule

Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y March 16, 2013 12:11 PM GMT
6/4 by Christmas, you having a laugh? To be anywhere near that he would want to smash Hurricane Fly in the Morgianna and then still if one of the English trained horses are impressive in the Fighting Fifth, International etc..... he will surely not be that short.

Yes he was hugely impressive [awesome actually], as easy a Triumph winner as i've seen but that is all he is and he has only beaten other juveniles. He could easily go on to be Champion next year on what i saw yesterday.

Hurricane Fly, The New One, Rock On Ruby, Grandouet, Jezki, My Tent Or Yours, Champagne Fever [if he don't go chasing], next years Champion Hurdle could be exceptional if they all get there fit and well.
Report kavvie March 16, 2013 12:19 PM GMT
a/p betting is a tough game.i had a good bet(at 20s) on sizing europe to win the champion hurdle.he was gone long odds on ir and even then he got injured.so id say about our conor,he looks good but he has to get thru 360 days injury free and then has to be good enough to win the race.as prem says it could be the hottest ch in 20 yr if all the above get there.
Report silvergreaser March 16, 2013 12:21 PM GMT
Premier a strict reading of Hurricane's form is not really that great is it?, an all out win over Peddlers Cross who hasn't done a tap since, outpaced again this year only the slower ground helped him reel in ROR, and lets be fair if ROR was in any of Istabraqs champion hurdles do you think he would've got within an asses roar of the great one?

Triumph hurdle winners do win the Champion hurdle you know, some might not win but be placed?. Katchit the last winner, last years Triumph winner Countrywide Flame ran a cracker this year, and yet none of them came even close to that demolition yesterday and these are usually the best pretenders in the 4yo division?.
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y March 16, 2013 12:33 PM GMT
Hurricane Fly has now won 2 Champion Hurdles, yes i think everything went his way this year but he still got the job done. Rock On Ruby is the most underrated horse in training in my opinion, he never gets the credit he deserves. Had he not had to make it this year and maybe if he had not went as hard in the middle part of the race [when they had Hurricane off the bit] perhaps it could have been different but Hurricane Fly is now a 2 time Champion Hurdler and Our Conor has a way to go to do that.

Katchit won his Triumph Hurdle pretty easy didn't he? And as for his Champion Hurdle i think it's fair to say Sizing Europe looked like he was going to win and win well until going wrong. As for that years Champion Hurdle it was dire in my opinion and the ground had gone against most of the half decent horses in the race.
Report Kelly March 16, 2013 1:14 PM GMT
Kavvie , way back I had Brownes Gazette EACH WAY at 33/1 for the Champion Hurdle  , he started odds on .  Finished fourth , could have ridden it into a place at least myself I think . The horses name wasn't the only colour in the picture unfortunately .

Report silvergreaser March 16, 2013 1:47 PM GMT
Dermot dismissed as a fantasist as it suited not only racings fraternity but the gravy trainers in the media, couldn't have an ex jockey now saying the game is inherently corrupt now could we?.
Report silvergreaser March 16, 2013 1:53 PM GMT
Yes permier maybe ROR is a little underrated in the grand scheme of the current bunch of mediocre hurdlers, thats why I can see Our Conor boosting the division and making mince meat of the current bunch of mediocrity.
Report tony57 March 16, 2013 1:56 PM GMT

i remember a lot of shady stuff going on round that time..i had a lovely bet in 1987.see you then at 5/1 and forgive and forget at 5/1 .ton each and ton double.see you then won champion at evs and f and f let me down in gc.that was the year of the snow..around that time there was a massive gamble on a horse called fearless leader..?!!?
