Those on the golf forum probably know my liking for this one already!! Have thought this was the race for him all year, was just a question of whether he would destroy his handicap mark beforehand. Due to a combination of factors, he is still only 3lb higher than at the start of the season. He has been unfit, planted himself, ran on atrocious ground, and twice ran on to finish second(or would have at Kempton) from impossible positions. Once under tender handling, once the early gallop probably not quick enough, and got outpaced when quickened. On decent jumping ground, with a proper gallop ensured, 3m around Chelt, with the hill to finish, i think this lad is a cracking bet. Took the 20s with Bet365, nrnb. They only going 16s now, but 20s still available in places, and i see no reason, other than a mishap between now and then, that he wont run in it. I can see why Sam Winner is favourite, and given his connections, he will prob still be fav on the day. But Captain won't be 20-1. I would suggest more like 7s/8s. Also like a couple more at double digit prices in other races. Bensalem JLT Handicap. Winner of this race two years ago, when looking very well handicapped beforehand, he returns to Cheltenham off the same mark of 143. Two runs snce, one when smashing his way around Aintree shortly after his festival win, and his comeback run recently, which was very promising. Still only 10, he has very few miles on the clock, only finishing out of the money twice when completing. Once when 5th to Grands Crus in the Cleeve Hurdle, when shaping like the 2nd best horse in the race, and also at Aintree when he didn't jump a fence. Jumping has always been a concern, but hopefully he can get around intact. 14s loooks another great bet, or 12s nrnb may be even better, as he does have alternative engagements. His Excellency - Grand Annual. This lad is absolutely made for this race, very similar to last years winer Bellvano. His owner wants to take on the impossible task of the Arkle, but Pipe favours the Grand Annual, where he will get the cover and end to end gallop that suits him best. 4lbs higher than when cantering past Shooters Wood ove course and distance, only to be nailed late on, the flat out gallop of this race should ensure its a lot easier for the pilot(hopefully Carberry), to target and swoop on the sitting ducks up the run in. 22s available, but due to the owners preference, i think its worth settling for the 16s nrnb. He will stand out like a beacon on the day, and wont be this price...especially if the right man is on board. Have had a small e.w trixie on these 3, just in case they do al pop their heads up!!
I like and have backed CS each way. As you say there's nothing wrong with his handicap mark, he's a course winner and the race should suit his style. Suspicion remains he's a bit of a nutcase, but at the price he's worth a shot. I will say I'd prefer if she put up someone other than Dominic Elsworth though.

Great write up there, one horse that catches my eye would be Divers in the byrne group plate around 20/1,has a great record around chelthamn, has had 3 quite runs this year on ground he would hate, dropped 7 pound in the handicap mark compared since last year,no better man than murphy to have one primed for the big meeting, always seems to get a winner at the festival aswell, any views on my selection in this race lads?

He would have every chance Huddys. The owners seem to be quite happy to have this as their aim, and let Murphy plot his way along to give it the best chance possible. On good ground or better, he will be hard to keep out of the frame.

Fine write up Callit, see he has an entry in the Coral as well, without knowing who has been laid out for it, not too many would you worry in it,seems sure to run a good race on the basis of his last two runs.Hope he does it for ya,you were always sweet on him.

Gutted!!! Thought he an absolute certainty turning in. Been backing him for well over a month. Get nice payout for the place, but just feels like the one that got away....... Put in to lay off some at 3.05, and had couple grand in for lay at 1.51. Pity leader didn't whack the last, had a reverse forecast 2nd and 3rd!!

I was sweet on Jetson but had Captain Sunshine on my short list.I didn't back it because i was a bit afraid of the stable form but had it in combo forecasts and tricasts with Shutthefrontdoor

I am only noticing your thread now Calli. I backed the horse as well. I thought coming up straight he would whoosh past them considering his recent finishes. Like you despite decent e/w money I feel he is the one that got away. The shenanigans at the start cost him the win. Gave up any kind of decent position through his quirkiness plus conceded alot of lengths to the winner by having to make his move so far outside.
