This one of my Favorite racecourses , I hate to knock it but it has turned itself inside out , Sadly for the wrong reasons , The Festival seems to have taken over and nothing else seems to matter ...Racing over the old course now seems a distant memory ..it got so bad yesterday that without binoculars it was nearly impossible to see the horses they were that far away....We all agree the Festival ground has to be protected ...Yet its now last november if even then ,Since we had a race run over the old course ...This is not what people pay good money to go and see ...Its time for this to be reviewed ..Who ever heard of ground taking 5 months to recover ...No this needs putting right straight away ...Years ago when you bought a horse with Punchestown form that's exactly what you got ...Now the only time they would be worth buying would be right after the festival..They are turning people off going racing at one of he best jumping tracks in the world...
I disagree with you workrider. In the past Punchestown have been very quick to cancel racing if the ground is any way dodgy for fear of ruining the ground for the festival. Now with full use of the various tracks this doesn't happen. This is the last meeting before the festival and it is only a mickey mouse meeting on an industry day and makes perfect sense to run it on the inside track. Most of the other meetings used the main track for most of the race. Maybe the start of the race was on the inside track but the business end was on the main track. This year we were lucky to have very few meetings cancelled there unlike Fairyhouse where the ground just couldn't be got back in time after earlier meetings being run on bad ground.
This is what i call track management at its best.
Let's agree to disagree.
