A really thought provoking article in yesterdays Times by Michael Foley , He spoke about those fans who don't really know a lot about the game of rugby , and their impact on the atmosphere at home games .... Anyone agree with this excerpt ... When the crowd needed to shut up they couldn't . When Ireland needed them to roar , they couldn't do that either......
Sunday games in the 6 Nations never seem to work from an atmosphere pov; everyone wrecked from the day before.
The crowd were wet and cold and it was one of those days when they needed a spark from the pitch and it didn't come.

I think he meant when you get a combination of all those things together at the same token Wonky it's not like it was worst rugby atmosphere either. That Aussie game was played in early October iirc and while the Weather may not have been great it was much better than it was last Sunday. I hope this answer all.

coco , irish rugby fans have been watching rugby in horrendous conditions for more years than i care to remember , the point foley was making is ,the stadium was not full , people were queuing for food well before half time , also they stayed inside to watch the game on in house t.v.....hence the lack ATMOSPHERE of REAL RUGBY FOLLOWERS ....

The stadium was not full? It was a sell out, i don't have the article but i would very much think you've read it arseways, no surprise. Next with until a grown up reads and more importantly explains what the words mean to you.
Ozy can you confirm it was a sell out?

Reckon the fans just reacted to what they saw ( or more specifically did NOT see ) on the pitch . Evidence to my eyes was that Ireland came on board with too many niggles affecting players . You can get away with that versus Italy and Scotland in recent times , but England are essentially a very solid team nowadays and their expertise is to exploit any weakness detected . From their point of view they did a good job , and conditions militated against skilful play , which negatived any skill we finished up with still on the pitch towards the end .
You need 25 above average players to win the 6 Nations , with injuries and niggles we dont have that many at our disposal at present , so forget glory . Plus Kidney insists on keeping out of sell by date products in his fridge , time to look further down the line , and its 2015 we should be targetting .

I QUOTE ,The Aviva would be full..... The clips of Ginger MC Loughlin and Mick Galway carrying garrisons of Englishmen over the try line would be run to angry up the blood and the noise would rattle teeth and bone .But the Aviva WASN'T FULL ...Even when the latecomers had filed in after the anthems were played and the last of their pints and cappuccinos were drank , threads of empty green seats ran across he sands . that was the first shocking thing , Then , after the fireworks and the thundering cannon blasts , came the silence ,Absolute abject silence .......

Which isn't to say that people didn't take advantage of the hospitality, warmth and shelter when ideally they should have been getting involved.
Of course it was a bleeding sell-out! Which isn't to say that people didn't take advantage of the hospitality, warmth and shelter when ideally they should have been getting involved.
Workrider correct again when he said the stadium was not full. Rocketfingers reply was it was a sell out this was confirmed by Ozymandius with the intemperate " of course it was a bleeding sell out "
Maybe someone else could explain that being a sell out and being full are two different things, throw in some facts like ten year tickets, don't think they will appreciate it coming from me.

Stadium was full, were they all sitting in their seats no, but the permitted amount of people were allowed into the stadium but were they watching from the tv's near the bars Ozy? I believe that may be the case. So to sum up the stadium were full but not everyone was sitting in their seats because of the weather. Ozy can you confirm this is the case? Thanks a mill,
RF

yes, sorry Rocket, I am happy to confirm that your statement is in fact 100% accurate, true and factual
10 year tickets are 99.9% always passed on to someone, its not like the lesser Provincial games where season ticket holders don't bother showing up or passing on the tickets.
