Not really meant to be Kelly,Pope Benedict resigned this morning and for whatever reason i remember Malachy's predictions,he did get a lot of them right.Think it is very possible he could be correct here as well as the Catholic church has more than its share of scandals in recent years and the next pope is dissociated from the church by Malachy.

Just catching up pa , via Sky news .  Cant say I am gutted  , had enough of rotweilers .

Not sure how it can be done , but it has been time for a seed change in the church , and current incumbent has not got the credentials for that .

So maybe the vox populi is beginning to seep through to the higher echelons of even the most conservative institution .

Need to examine the celibate clergy thing , no idea where it ever got the nod except from the committed .  Time for us ordinary folk to have more input , and I would start with that , 50% of the world is feminine  , so why marginalise their influence .  Every Pope had a mother . And most of my clerical friends have always had the feeling that their only female bastion was their mother . Leaves a void .

I remember the times when the only females allowed inside the altar rails were nuns . Came from the Jewish tradition I think , always disagreed with it myself .

Freudian slip in the statement .  Used the word "bark " instead of barque . Hopefully it is time to try to right the ship !

The 2/1 (with Paddy) for an African Pope is too big. The jt-favs (4/1 each) are both from Africa so the 2/1 trumps those odds already.

The 11/4 (Boyles) about an Italian is also too big. This has already been cut to 4/5 (from 5/4 openers) by Paddy so what Boyles are doing at 11/4 is a mystery.

Finally, Lads are going 33/1 about Gianfranco Ravasi who is next best 8/1. On price terms this is too big a gap and that 33s won't last long. Also he could be an interesting shout as he is quite young, relatively speaking, being just 70.

Malachy says "And the terrible judge will judge his people" you are starting to get on thin ice alright kavvie.

kavvie, Dougal was 1000/1 with Paddy but is now 500/1. Likewise Bono.

It's all a bit of fun quoting these guys in the market but I actually saw a guy tweet his betslip with Dougal on it. It was only 50c but FFS buy a chocolate bar or give it to a beggar or something.

Db1974 think Soapp made a very good point on another thread that to spite the prophecy they might pick someone not shall we say fitting the mould.
