Instinctive racism inherent in the Irish

I suppose it is a form of progress that you have managed to create a thread without Borneo in it but just not mentioning my name is not quite enough when the thread is still about me.

Dubious source is right . Considering 2 of the major politicians attempting to push the boat out on civil rights had Irish catholic roots how much validity is there in the claim ?

All races cleave to their own .  If that is racism everyone in the world is racist  , but if so it is of the passive variety generally . If you prefer the company of your own it does not validate that you do not like other races , its a lifestyle choice .  Difference between that and pro-active racism is significant .

Active racism and discrimination is the real enemy , particularly if it is condoned or encouraged by state mechanisms .

What I find really funny about the Ryan quote is that it yet again throws up the great line that implies that the Irish people were collectively really moral and upstanding people and that any faults or defects in their character or practices were introduced and forced on them by degenerate 'outsiders'.
This line was vigorously advanced by the unholy alliance of Irish Roman Catholic Church and Gaelic Revival bigots for about 50 years after the coming into being of the irish Free State.( censorship only began to unravel in the late 1960s). It was really like a cultural Taliban regime -awful to think back on.
The folly and self-delusion that has characterised so much 'thinking' in Ireland is a constant source of amazement to me .
Oh , hang on , we'd be able to think clearly , sensibly and logically only for those outsiders who came in and perverted us ....

Poor little Ireland does suffer from a seige mentality (oh those oppressive Brits), all you have to do is look at the mass hysteria that breaks out when poor little clannish Ireland wins something at sport, cue World Cup 1990, Munsters first Heineken Cup victory, Katie Taylor etc, great winners, but give them the slightest hint of an injustice and you see the real face of the so called great Irish supporters and gutter press, ask Thierry Henry if we're a racist nation?, I'm sure he would've been lynched if he was spotted walking down a Dublin street not long after the infamous handball?.

Of course I do db, pointing out the fact how we as a nation have a mob mentality, often extremely prone to hysterical over-reactions.

All nations have the mob mentality given the situation . Goebbels was the master . And it is heightened by night time . Maybe floodlit matches should be banned .

Exactly so -every day in the Irish media ..hysterical over-reactions ...very little in the way of calm reasoned reflection on the various issues that arise.
The media have a vested interest in whipping up emotion and have no difficulty in finding yahoos who love their few seconds of fame -emoting into a phone or texting rubbish which is invariably ill-informed , incoherent and illogical.

People might ask -what's wrong with emotions? The answer is - nothing, as long as there is some effort to moderate and hold them in check.
History is full of examples where emotions ran amok and led to ridiculous injustices -e.g. the incarceration of Americans who looked like Japanese  during WW11.
Another interesting example is that where smoke or fire is detected in some part of a crowded area. Reason tells us  that most or all of the people would successfully evacuate the area if doing so in an ordered manner. However , time and again , the power of emotion causes people to create stampedes so that many are killed in the stampede itself and many more are prevented from getting out because of the pile up of the fallen bodies.
