2.25 in Warwick he's 12lb lower over hurdles than over fences, you guys must be smashing him up right now at 3's? But a competitive race has not ran over hurdles in 3 or 4 years i'm taking you guys on today, i welcome all your money.

Have you in Limestone Lad fashion actually put up a lay,if so tell us the amount and price.
I rarely bet on British racing.
Report Rocketfingers January 12, 2013 11:02 AM GMT
Already traded but if you're interested i may put up more later, i'm pretty sure some of that dinero i took was coming from the outer regions of Tipp and probably Tallaght Laugh
Report pa lapsy January 12, 2013 11:05 AM GMT
Bould statement Rocket, not a very consistent horse in recent times,I'd find it hard to back myself(not laying either)
At the other end of the spectrum ie a horse going up in the weights,Pete the Feat gone up 40lb would you lay? or is he another Hunt Ball?
Report Rocketfingers January 12, 2013 11:24 AM GMT
Myself and Tolmi we're attacked by the two named posters on here for suggesting that not every horse dropping from chases to hurdles was value if there handicap mark was much lower, the argument was that it was often factored into the price something that the 'said' could not grasp. I'm not trying to look cool, this thing is a fav and could easily still win but all i'm trying to do is show them that not every single horse is value and that betting horses like this is a case by case scenario and not an automatic bet as the 'said' insisted it was.
Report pa lapsy January 12, 2013 11:35 AM GMT
I'd tend to look hard at them myself(lower handicap mark in the other sphere) just for the simple reason the trainer is looking to "exploit" the mark usually when he deems the horse has reached the height of his capabilities with either fences or hurdles.Nothing in stone as you say and The package might indeed be a good example,my take would be his consistency and his trainers style of seeming to get them right for often just the one run.
Report mitch leary January 12, 2013 11:44 AM GMT
it could be a grand national prep for the package and they want to preserve his chase mark.

as they are doing with Sunnyhillboy in the same race
Report pa lapsy January 12, 2013 12:01 PM GMT
Spot on Mitch and Prem, not unusual with the National til the weights are announced,Black Apalachi in Ireland used to do it and sure a few others used to get their prep for it in a hurdle race.

Rocketfingers comparing himself to Tolmi is a good one.
This thread proves conclusively that Rocketfingers low attention span means he can't follow long threads or long posts.
I complained that the handicapper was lazy and just handicapping on ratings I illustrated by his allowing Bog Warrior run of a mark of 122,I extended this by highlighting this exploiting of ridiculously lower marks between chasers and hurdlers,Tolmi in his usual erudite way put forward an alternative view in that his experience of chasers going back to hurdles was they were over bet and didn't represent value,'twas then Rocketfingers joined in,no analysis just guff about the discrepancy being factored into the price.Rocketfingers was never attacked he did demand winners in advance which he got but rather ungallantly never acknowledged.
Dragging Huddys into it is unfair but as this poster has put up a 16/1 winner and an 100/1 golf winner ye can see he is the exact opposite of the hapless Rocketfingers.
The thread was about Irish horses being poorly Handicapped with a specific mention of how the English handicapper uses his discretion so the example above is not relevant.
Report pa lapsy January 12, 2013 7:31 PM GMT
May not be relevant to that specific thread, thats fair enough, still as an example of a horse running a fair few pound lower in a hurdle race rather than a chase(albeit in England),think rocket deserves some credit here for putting him up as a lay(though short). Well beat in the end after travelling well it did as some said look like more of a prep run.
Report Rocketfingers January 12, 2013 7:35 PM GMT
Wildman well well you did your dough and you ain't dragging me into an angry argument, i have no say what you bet, i said it was bad value and was just illustrating mine and Tolmi's point the other week where you slagged us off. I'm not one to gloat but you ain't attacking me again for showing you how wrong you original point was. We've all bet big priced winners so that is irrelevant the fact is you and Huddys kept on about it, that's why i mention bought you. If you were a normal poster like say pa we could have a talk about it but you bring it down to childish level as soon as you know you're in the wrong, it was the same when i said Joseph O'Brien was going to be champion jockey and you said he had no chance, you have to learn there is always someone sharper than you.
Report wildmanfromborneo January 12, 2013 7:37 PM GMT
It was done by accidenta Pa ,he followed Tolmi on the handicapper thread plus earlier he put up a horse with the excuse he was well in with regards his chase mark,Tolmi told him not to go down that road as such horses tend to be over bet,he has been waiting for one like that ever since guarantee it was pointed out in some paper hence this thread with the misinterpretation, hardly surprising.
Report wildmanfromborneo January 12, 2013 7:42 PM GMT
Rocketfingers you weren't just illustrating Tolmis point as he well understood the difference between the English and Irish handicapper you didn't.
You failed to follow the thread,no one attacked you as you were regarded as irrelevant but I did accede to one of your childish demands for winners and gave you some,no good to you as you don't bet.
Report Rocketfingers January 12, 2013 7:43 PM GMT
It was tolmi who getting a hard time and being laughed at that such horse may not be value, i can't remember your exact words but it was basically shut up and be quiet. I agreed with Tolmi and then Huddy came after me with you. tolmi will back this up and this was the perfect horse to prove mine (our) point. I'm not looking for any credit of you as it counts for zero but please refrain from slagging me off for being right at least Wildman, if the Package had won you'd be first on here with the exact same argument that you had the first at least you learned something today !
Report wildmanfromborneo January 12, 2013 7:53 PM GMT
You still haven't grasped it.todays result was irrelevant as it was under the English handicapper not the Irish handicapper which was the point of the original thread.
The horse mentioned in the thread was Bog Warrior and the handicapper has acknowledged his mistake by raising him almost forty pounds.
Report Rocketfingers January 12, 2013 8:00 PM GMT
It was about horses handicap marks over hurdles compared to fences and not about the English or Irish handicapper. You are now inventing a bran new story but too many people seen you slag me and tolmi off for those few days and now your fuming that i took your money, some may call it revenge but i won't i rather call it a lesson served cold. Remember the day Say 12th of Jan 2013 when i welcomed all money Wildman especially yours ! Wink
Report wildmanfromborneo January 12, 2013 8:06 PM GMT
Your first sentence shows your low attention span and how you still don't get it,the thread was about the Irish handicapper and it was stated many times on it that the English handicapper behaves differently.
You have never laid a bet in your life and if someone did lay this on the basis of my earlier thread it was pure luck.

he gave it all back with this gem.....Rocketfingers     12 Jan 13 11:07
Any punts give here, busy weekend with the 2 big matches tomorrow. Under 2.5 goals at odds against on Reading v WBA, i think this is a cracker of a bet, Reading have switched to a new formation recently and they are tending to sit quite deep in their matches, WBA play this way as well, famous last comments but this looks a decent punt.
Report wildmanfromborneo January 12, 2013 8:08 PM GMT
He gave nothing back because he doesn't back.
His failure to follow threads is worrying so thank god he doesn't gamble.
Report pa lapsy January 12, 2013 8:08 PM GMT
You know he didn't back him Rocket,no point really for your last post its just a wind up.

what about his 9 LARGE TO WIN 2 THE OTHER DAY.....surely you believe that wildmanfromborneo....Laugh
Report Rocketfingers January 12, 2013 8:14 PM GMT
Wildman the debate was horses racing over a much lower handicap mark over hurdles than fences was not always value, stop trying to change what the debate was about. Tolmi and myself were on one side you and huddy and probably a few more on the other, we took loads of abuse, i waited for the right horse to show you than their handicap mark is often factored into their prices meaning there were quite often no value, of course there are times when they can be value and a bet but not always, basically you need to do your homework Wildman. This was argued against by yourself and huddys, but the proof is in the pudding here, it's not an automatic bet, these things are done on a case by case basis if you want to make money. Now this is probably my last comment on the subject.
Report wildmanfromborneo January 12, 2013 8:24 PM GMT
You still don't get it,the thread was entitled handicapper it was mainly about Bog Warrior running off a ridiculously low mark and how the English Handicapper would not have allowed it.
Read this post again slowly and then read the handicapper thread again surely the penny will finally drop.
Report Rocketfingers January 12, 2013 8:28 PM GMT
Look wildman bore off with your 'mainly' will you and admit you are value ignorant !?
Report wildmanfromborneo January 12, 2013 8:37 PM GMT
Still not getting it,mainly about Bog Warrior but totally about the Irish handicapper, you are the only poster who misunderstood this.
Report Rocketfingers January 12, 2013 8:44 PM GMT
Nope, by trying to put up this argument you're showing you don't understand pricing and value, you're not conscious of it. If you speak nicely to me i'll help you, i tried to help you today but you're gone all defensive on me.
Report wildmanfromborneo January 12, 2013 8:52 PM GMT
If you want to make a post on that topic I would definitely read it but this thread is about you misreading the handicapper thread and despite numerous attempts by me to enlighten you you still don't get it.

Thanks NGU, tbf i have no idea if he bet it or not but judging by his childish rants, pretending he was talking about something different and then logging off as soon as i brought the new thread back up i would say there is every chance he did. I started the thread to show him how wrong he is about these types of bets and how dangerous it is to robot bet them, but you can clearly see it's car crash stuff he is posting. I knew he was getting angry with me and i never want to fall out with anyone so i refused to post anymore. Anyway hope you had a good weekend !

Good to see Never Give Up being as loyal as a dog but you would  hardly expect him to understand the Handicapper thread.
Great also to see Huddys continue tipping golf winners, nailed today's winner on the golfing thread.

I suppose that I should make some contribution to this thread seeing as I got a few mentions on it!In the original thread I made the point that I often found myself laying horses who were better in over hurdles than fences or even vice versa in some cases.I felt that they were often overbet and went off at a price shoter than their true chance warranted.I then admitted that I laid Bog Warrior at around evens in his handicap hurdle. At the time I thought there was a chance that he might not be the same horse as looked so promising earlier in his career.Obviously subsequent events have proved me very wrong.
However as I did not need to admit that I had laid him I was merely using him as an example that in laying that type of horse one can often be wrong ...sometimes spectacularly so.The proof of any betting strategy is in its ability to make a profit over a period of time.I have found laying this type of horse profitable over the years.Interestingly less so in the last 2 years as I feel the markets have possibly been less inclined to overbet this type of horse.
As with all strategies it could well be that laying this type of horse will not be profitable in the future. As with many things in life punters are creatures of habit and it is the ability to evolve with the times that will define your profit and loss over a period of time.Being adaptable to change is vital.
In fairness to Rocketfingers he picked up on the reasoning for my laying of this type of horse. However it is not a case of blind laying more a horse by horse analysis. One correct lay such as The Package however does not make the strategy correct just as one incorrect lay such as Bog warrior does not make it wrong. It is only the analysis of bets over a period of time can prove whether its worthwhile continuing with laying this type of horse..Always remember its a marathon not a sprint!
