Finuge started well, had all the ball in the first 5 mins. Got a point and a few bad wides.
Cookstown took over and kicked some lovely points. Finuge hung in there with 1 particularly soft free. Galvin was playing some lovely passes but the full forward was toothless and he ran out of options. They had goal chances and the Cookstown keeper saved well despite looking iffy and as did his direct opposite. Galvin gave a heavy hit to a sub brought on to mark him and a melee that lasted a long while resulted and changed the pattern of play. Early in the 2nd half, no.22 Quinn for Cookstown kicked 2 beauties to add to a good first half performance. Midfielder Corridan got involved in some handbag afters and got a second yellow. Once Cookstown got their goal, it was curtains. Finuge centre-half got a red for retaliation. Overall, Finuge looked slow and laboured. Jogging out at the start they looked more like a junior team than the 2 teams earlier. They were much bigger physically and caught the quicker lighter Cookstown lads in high tackles. Cookstown used 4 or 5 of their subs with 15 mins to go through injury. Cookstown were good on the break, kicked some fine points and fully deserved their win. Their interceptions helped them enormously. Galvin looked a class act, kick passing was exemplemary but he couldn't be in more than one place. The rest of the team including FitzMaurice looked out of their depth. Owen Mulligan looked dangerous throughout and kicked a beauty of a point from play as well as some frees. On the subject of frees, after last week's horror show by Cork, Castleknock missed a howler and Galvin missed from 35 yards on his good side. The 45s kicked by Cluxton, various Cork players and the lads tonight never troubled the posts. Is it the cold night air? |
