Poor enough fare today at Thurles, hard to see Foildubh giving seven pound to Call The Police,Cadspeed fell at the last in Clonmel when clear but is an unlucky horse so I will chance the mercurial Stony Grey Soil.Allduckornodinner doesn't like War Correspondent thinks he is ungenuine so has to be swerved at odds on although the opposition is poor,Dazzlers Day is in form and well in looks a winner to me,Fiery Oscar won this race last year and is a tentative choice and finally the bumper, five runners show the decline in horse numbers here and the fact there is too much racing but then again they had no runners last year,Willie Mullins record with Graham Wylies horses is nothing short of phenomenal but you would still be a brave man to bet such short odds especially as Willie was using all his good bumper horses last month in pursuit of the calendar year record for Patrick.

I thought it was interesting that James Lambe has 2 runners(4 runners yesterday at AYR-2 Winners,a second and a fifth). He trains up North(Tyrone I think),so it's a fair journry down to Thurles.

Shanroe Society is still unexposed(only 8 runs)and has hinted at ability over 2m previously, could be interesting at 16.0.

It's not a card I will be getting too involved with, too many short prices facing little opposition but not bombproof either.GL.

Not one to get involved with tipping threads but had a read of dj's post, checked the horses form and its 4th to Dictak at Fairyhouse was as good as anything on offer in this poor contest, made a phone call and had a small ew at 11/1 cheers dj.

A bit of bloodbath for fav backers, CTP just scraping home the rest running abysmally thus far.

Yet another Thurles stinker from a Martin horse, anyone remember Benefficient (2/1f) been pulled up after weakening a long way from home before making all in the Grade 1 Dellottie at Leop?

Not saying todays stinker Dazzlers Day will come remotely near those heights but that was an absolute shocker with just the mandatory penalty, but thats racing they tell me?.
Report Princesse D'Anjou January 3, 2013 4:23 PM GMT
Dazzlers Day is one of Byrnes horses.  Didn't back it last week - was on the time before with the greatest jockey up for the QR Handicap Hurdle at Limerick (probably too obvious that day).

Silvergreaser he got an easy lead last time and stole the race lto imo, today he was hassled for the lead and at one stage was nearly put through a rail jutting out onto the track, fact he has a hood would suggest he has his own ideas.

Indeed princesse a big oversight from me, but either ways that run was just too bad to be true, you can live with a horse been beaten but runs that simply defy logic bug the sh!t out of me, and its the same old faces isnt it.

Well done dj876 great price great spot, naturally I didn't see your post til now, backed from 10/1 to 5/1 on course.
Nearly everyone on here right about Cadspeed, backed Stony Grey Soil at 14/1 and for some unknown reason didnt back him each way,he was hampered badly at the same fence he was hampered at last time probably cost him a dozen lengths, should win next time.
I felt Foildubh couldn't give 7 pound to Call The Police but when I saw the way they were betting I changed my mind and backed Foildubh at 4/1,that bloody value again.
Dazzlers Day was very weak, indeed I observed some Corkmen laying it,made me just look on,the Christmas Limerick form is not working out and is best ignored, which leads to Allduckornodinner who was proved right in this regard and right again in his assessment of War Correspondent.
Had a good luck at the bumper horses and felt Briar Hill was as fit as he ever could be and has little scope for improvement ,think he is the first example of a dud that Graham Wylie has in Ireland.

Maybe we should be asking how Saddlenomore has Always in rear, adrift 3 out, pulled up before last come on pounds from his last run behind Dazzlers Day just 7 short days ago, only 4lb better in with the winner, last time his in running comments read "Always in rear, adrift 3 out, pulled up before last", travelled extremely well through the race today without been able to go with the winner Moving On who in hindsight should not have been 20/1 looking at its summer form?.

Yes Dazzlers Day was slightly hampered early in the race by what seemed a deliberate maneuver by Condon, you can see quite clearly Davy looking around on his inside before moving his horse over slightly, causing Dazzlers to glance off one of the brushes at the end of the rail, it turned out to be no more than minor interference but could have been a lot worse, Condon could've caused a serious accident for horse and jockey by his deliberate maneuver?.

It in no way effected the dismal performance of the fav, who was always close up there after before folding like a pack of cards when the race began in earnest, the fav was noticeably weak in the betting from the only Irish stable ever convicted for laying their horses on Betfair, oh sorry that was one of the lowly paid stable staff who could risk thousands my apoligies once again!.
Report silvergreaser January 3, 2013 9:19 PM GMT
looks like my copy and paste went a little awry but you get the drift?.
Report dj876 January 4, 2013 7:23 AM GMT
Wildman ,who were these Cork layers laying a Charles Byrnes runner?

Interestingly Dazzlers Day(BSP @ 2.48) was matched @ 4.4 jumping the first,I am not suggesting anything sinister,I don't think the horse is much good.I think it's safe to say that Limerick form can not be taking at face value and an ISP of 21 and a BSP of 36 at Limerick suggests that he surprised connections.

Pa's point about being hassled for the lead is also a valid point.

Wildman,I would think yesterday was a day, you wish you were still hitting the pink button-Short priced(some ungenuine)Favourites who were opposable but a lot harder to pick the winners.
Report wildmanfromborneo January 4, 2013 10:54 AM GMT
Certainly War Correspondent and Cadspeed are layers dream, nine times Cadspeed has been a beaten short priced favourite.
I had to do some work before I went to Thurles so didn't see dj876 post about Shanroe Society and don't mind saying it would have swayed me,it was a nice little gamble.
Nothing sinister about Dazzlers Day they just knew he was no good before Limerick and that form was suspect so there were plenty of layers.
Report silvergreaser January 4, 2013 11:27 AM GMT
Dazzlers Day was good enough to win a poor race at Limerick and beat a horse who won his last race easily (granted another poor contest), yesterdays contest was probably worse? as a horse pulled up in Dazzlers Limerick contest was good enough to finish 3rd in yesterdays race, of course Dazzlers Day is no great shakes but a 4lb penalty should not have been too much of an inconvenience considering the handicapper is hiking him 14lbs after yesterday?, at the very least that horse should've been making the frame to suggest 100% that nothing sinister was at play when you consider the connections is a little too convenient, maybe nothing sinister was at play? but no way can you be 100% certain with this stable, paragons of virtue all!.

Would you think he was wearing the hood as a fashion accessory Silver?
Report Bigwillystyle January 4, 2013 11:39 AM GMT
Silvergreaser you are a clown of the highest order.  Dazzlers Day was 20/1 in Limerick when it won.  If it were fancied in any way it would have been low single figure price.  Got a soft enough lead in terrible ground and won.  Horse was taken on yesterday and probably spat the dummy out.  As for the horse who finished third he was wearing first time blinkers so that may go some way to explaining the improved run aswell as the ground at Thurles was nowhere near as bad as the ground at Limerick.  You have some chip on your shoulder.  You must be a serial loser.
Another thread you suggested that Rothwell and Hanlon could be as good as trainers as Mullins if they were given the same horses.  Those two clowns would have 75% of his good horses broken down or running in Downpatrick.
Report dj876 January 4, 2013 11:44 AM GMT
Cadspeed's in running profile is quite incredible,19 runs has traded at 1.56 and shorter 12 times before going on to lose(1.22 yest)

Report silvergreaser January 4, 2013 11:59 AM GMT
Read my post pa lapsy I did say, "of course Dazzlers Day is no great shakes" did I not? (the head gear was on yesterday too), but the horses he was running against yesterday were mostly donkeys, which is why the horse was priced up at 11/10 morning tissue, would that not suggest that the horse should at least have been fighting out the places not tailing off rapidly?, to run so abysmally and to suggest it doesn't deserve an explanation is the reason why these guys continue to take the proverbial pee.

Bigwill so you're 100% certain that he spit out the dummy?, considering the horse remained prominent throughout the race suggests otherwise?, but when the pressure was applied the horse went out as if shot, I'm not 100% certain that something sinister was at play and neither can anybody else notwithstanding connections, but I can't stand guys name calling as if it gives their point of view much more credence?.
Report pa lapsy January 4, 2013 12:37 PM GMT
You did say that indeed silver but what you haven,t addressed he might have "issues" hence the wearing of the hood.Bws and dj and myself agree that the horse was hassled yesterday and not at Limerick and with a quirky horse that is probably the last thing they want. Bws phrase of spitting out the dummy is very apt imo if you want to believe there was something more sinister thats your perrogative,i just disagree with you.

Once this trainer is involved you have every right to be a sceptic, deception comes with the job description down Limerick way, so many incidents take your pick, not to mention the infamous parade ring bust up.

Byrnes lands gamble in Ballinrobe opener

Tue 4th May 2010, 18:14

Charles Byrnes landed a gamble in the opening Western People Maiden Hurdle at Ballinrobe when Cyborg (20/1 - 3/1) came home in front with Robbie McCarth deputising for the unwell Keith Schous.

McCarth travelled well into the straight to take up on the lead on the run-in to score by a convincing two lengths.
Their task was made easier when runner-up Ballyadam Brook made a last flight error.
Winning trainer Byrnes said afterwards: "Robbie [McCarth] gave him a grand ride and the seven pounds made all the difference."

"The horse likes the better ground and he's a great jumper so we'll keep him on the go throughout the summer on both the flat and over hurdles."

"We may look at something at Galway for him, he'll make a nice chaser in time."
Charles Byrnes made a request to the Stewards to subsitute nominated rider Keith Schous with Andrew McNamara due to the nominated rider being unwell.

Evidence was heard from the Charles Byrnes who stated that Keith Schous the horse regular work rider had informed him at 12.30 the he was feeling unwell and may not be able to travel. The trainer added that he did not look for a replacement until arriving at the track and having satisfied himself that the ground was suitable he contacted Andrew McNamara to ride the horse. He selected the rider as he has ridden for the owner regularly in the past.

Having considered the evidence, the Stewards refused the request in accordance with the provisions of Regulation 3 but informed the trainer that they allow a rider with similar experience to the original nomination.

Subsequently the Stewards allowed a request for the horse to be ridden by Robbie McCarth seven pound claimer.

Bringing up a race from years ago is tenuous to say the least, though your point regarding the trainer is fair enough.
A simple question so silvergreaser.
Why does a horse wear headgear?
Report silvergreaser January 4, 2013 1:26 PM GMT
Simple answer to help them concentrate, many horses wear blinkers for virtually their entire careers and win loads of races because it aids them, hence why trainers will often leave the headgear off and put them back on when they feel the time is right.

Pa that race wasn'nt years ago, may 2010, and just to add to that race in question all the money for the horse was in the morning before the jockey mysteriously became ill, opened 3/1 on track.

correct silver, would it be beyond the bounds of possibility dazzler had a fierce lapse of concentration towards the latter part of the race after another horse eyeball was looking through his hood for nearly all the early part of the race?
Report Bigwillystyle January 4, 2013 1:40 PM GMT
Silvergreaser how much money would it take to move a Byrnes horse from 20/1 to 3/1 in the morning?  They wouldnt get 500E/W way on in total.  You must have been burned badly in the past.
Report silvergreaser January 4, 2013 1:43 PM GMT
Unless the horse in question came up to you after the race yesterday and had a whisper in your ear you're only guessing guys, can you scientifically prove your theory is correct?, no, I thought so.

Racing is full of myths that are excepted as fact.
