Yeah but Norn if i started a thread saying i thought Ruby Walsh gave Sanctuaire (for instance) a rubbish ride in the Tingle Creek it would be removed within the hour so somebody is obviously on to them to remove certain thread about certain people.

If it's alright to start threads praising members of that family it should also be alright to start threads that may criticise them (within boundaries of course).

For anyone who didn't see the RTE coverage: Ted told viewers not to back the horse, and JP tipped one of his other runners - which was odd because AFTER the race AP said Frank Berry strongly fancied the winner.

To be fair Ted said the value was gone at the price when asked. 14s into 5s (or something like that) at the time the question was asked.

And JPs 'tip'did also make the frame.

The Downside of Self-Praise

There are people who reach the pinnacles of glory by dint of their destiny and yet have their feet firmly on the ground. Then there are people who struggle a lot to see their dreams transform into realities, and when they have they thank God and their friends and well-wishers for being a support. Finally, there are people who are simply a wayward drop in the ocean and they think they are the ocean itself. Such people are always busy assembling a verbal collage of praise for themselves and the type of work they do.

Delusions of grandeur form the footrest of self-praise, and it is often linked to feigned notions about the self. Self-praise is not a good sign and always proves counterproductive when it is communicated to a well-meaning, logical and knowledgeable population of the world. The fact that you say of yourself as being the best doesn’t necessarily mean that others on this planet earth are the worst. If you are the best, you should be everywhere; how come then the others are where you are not. G. W. Harvey once remarked: “Self-praise occasionally succeeds with ignorant and credulous persons; very seldom with those who have much knowledge of the world. He who can make a discerning mind think more highly of him for what he says of himself, must be a person of unusual ability and address.”

You may only belie the very act of self-praise if you think you are the person of unusual ability and address. None of us is so perfect to claim this stature; and if we actually are of this magnificent and towering address then we don’t even need to self-praise ourselves. Self-praise leads to vanity and ego and is seen as a bad thing in almost every faith and religion. Given all its negative meanings in various dictionaries, which include bluster, brag, braggadocio, bragging, crow, crowing, line-shooting, rodomontade, rodomontade, self-assertion, speech act, vapouring, vaunt, self-praise is truly no recommendation.

When you indulge in self-praise, you are in reality insulting the sound intelligence and wisdom of the people who you think should be seconding your blabbermouth. You lose your faith in them and what they develop of you is a residual image of being a dishonest, self-centered and a highly disinteresting character. Montaigne has remarked that a man's accusations of himself are always believed; his praises of self never.

Psychologists group people of self-praising behavior among one of the narcissism types; something that bears a strong lineage to personality disorders. Those who hold high opinions about themselves are normally grouped into the ‘trickster-type’ which is charming, engaging, smooth and inviting and may have many social graces. All these adjectives often act as a veneer on a disturbed personality till they meet someone who is more knowledgeable than them and has a better know-how of things.

“Behind the ‘trust me’ messages,” say psychologists, “you will find a malicious intent. It is the personality of the ‘con-artist’. The motives are covert and include exploitation, limitless entitlement and a cruel twist when the victim realizes the script of betrayal.”

It is understood that every one of us carries an element of self-praise on our shoulders since it is more of a spectrum. But when it goes to someone’s head, it is more of a problem and can affect almost all areas of life including work, leisure, relationships and well-being.

Since almost all of us want to go ahead in life, it is not surprising that people with self-praising tendencies will be doing a better job if they weren't so busy patting themselves on the back.

there is no doubt about it,ted can get 1 ready and land a gamble.i always liked ted,a funny guy ,there is no bullsh1t with him.what you see is what you get.hes a realist,never sentiment....its that attitude that is a factor in the making of the brilliance that is ruby walsh.

Kitty also started a thread on Ruby on Friday so there may/may not be a connection. As someone has said the criticism of jockeys on here is totally wrong and I would defend NH jockeys in particular all day long. I have always said that Ruby is the best ever and his judgement of pace in particular is amazing. Was annoyed however when I heard Ted say that "rules are there to be broken" when complaining re stewards decision re P Mullins ride in Limerick. What a load of. One can imagine what Ted would say if he was on the wrong end of a rule breaker!

I just wonder if this is the same TM Walsh that used to rhyde P2P's often for the famed dundrum man, seems day was familiar with rule/s bending, braking twisting etc etc etc.,

Had to laugh reading Tony Ward in the Indo on Sat being moved when he heard Ted and Dunphy on the radio praising the ethos of rugby and respect for the referee. Ted has never shown much respect towards Stewards in all his years of commentating to put it mildly ! Thought it was interesting that Nick Luck had Gary O Brien as his link man from Leopardstown for the 'Morning Line' last Saturday - it used to be Robert Hall in the Highflyer days. Might O'Brien be the in house Irish expert for the Channel 4 coverage of Cheltenham 2013 ?

I was racing on Friday and I wanted to see a rerun of the Lexus so I watched it on RTE player this morning. I nearly choked on my stirabout when at 1.48.50 for anyone that wants to see/hear the bould ted calling Nicholls a focking mongrel not one but 4 times!! Not on a live mic but Roberts mic must have picked it up! Hilarious. Happy new year

nicholls had just said he was cursing ruby for being so far back. i would say he was just excited having won in such a manner.
for ted to call him a mongrel is not acceptable and just plain ignorant.

Interesting choice of words used by Ted,I suppose we can't be all bred in the purple.

That's at 9.18 on the youtube clip.

Also at 7.34 on the clip, Ted says (in commentary about Paul Nicholls) that "he must be an awkward auld so & so (meaning a focking mongrel) to ride for, if he was finding fault with that ride" - just sticking up for his son Ruby imho.

my old man tells a story about ted back in the 70s.my old fellah and his cronies were going for a touch at bellewstown where a relative of their group was riding their gamble.ted was riding the fav.at the business end of the race ,ted was boxed in on the inside full of horse and shouted "let me through"... "i'am coming through" where upon the young lad on the gamble open wide abit and then immediately closed the door and elbowed ted into the corn field. during the stewards enquiry a lynch mob of the fav backers had formed along with the wrath of a furious ted walsh.they lost the race in the stewards room but the old man then and now still finds the whole episode hilarious.

i was standing near ted after our conor won the 1st at Leopardstown.
It was announced that he was now 6-1 for the triumph hurdle.
ted said to someone, "if he was trained by f*cking paul nicholls he'd be 2-1 or 5-2".

Must be no love lost between them for some reason despite all the big winners ruby rides for him.

If he was trained by Nicholls Cooper would'nt be riding it.
