What a horrid woman that Melanie Verwood must be! She has some brass neck trying to profit from the death Mr Ryan, I feel very sorry for his wife and children. I hope she buys a one way ticket back to South Africa with her ill-gotten gains
seems very pleasant to me.the media here have a set on her.his so called "friends"knew what he was doing to himself(he fooled her from all acounts) and no one seemed to care enough to do anything about it.id say she couragous.and i look forward to reading the book.i hope she makes millions from it

Amazing the way the D4 media have pulled out all the stops on this one because it doesn't suit them to see Gerry portrayed as it was. She always came across well to me and as for all the sympathy for his wife do people not realise they had split up???

Well you clearly have some degree of interest as you have commented on the people involved with a suggestion of knowledge of facts.
I suppose any level of interest in the affairs of Gerry Ryan or his family makes me despair at the state of society.

I would imagine anyone in this country who listens to the radio or reads a newspaper would have some knowledge of the facts as portrayed in the media.Seeing as the man was a highly paid broadcaster it would have thought it inevitable that there would be a degree of interest in the book.
As for the state of society you might find that interest in the affairs of a high profile figure happens in other societies as well.

That depends very much on what newspaper you read. I read a number of newspapers every day. I just don't have any interest in Gerry Ryan, his family, or anything to do with them. I don't see why anyone would. This is as close as I have ever come to discussing the man. I would go so far as to say that I think having an interest in this is a bit pathetic. Still, enjoy your book.

In your extensive reading you have obviously been unable to learn how to glean facts from your reading.I will not be reading the book nor have I stated that I would be. What might be pathetic on this thread is someone stating that anyone who has an interest in the topic is pathetic. I think in the future you should extend the questioning of others to questioning of yourself.

Tolmi- your first post on this thread is pathetic. You imply a knowledge of Gerry Ryan's private life that was not reported by the 'd4' media. You also imply that his girlfriend(?) has come across very well- where exactly? Is she also a public figure? Finally, maybe because I have no interest in anyone's private life, I had no clue as to his marital status, and I am sure I am not alone. However, if the media were referring to this woman as his wife, an assumption of marriage would seem natural. Your post, as a whole, displays a keen interest in Gerry Ryan, and implies knowledge of his private life that was unreported in the press. It is a post that smacks of the drunken know all in everyone's local who starts conversations with 'I had Joe Duffy on this morning and...'
I made a throwaway comment early in the thread and was very surprised by the post of yours that followed, as I did not expect to find a post like that on a sports betting forum, so I commented again. I have seen other posts by you, and you have not really struck me as a total dope before.
It is hard to glean acts about Gerry Ryan from articles not about Gerry Ryan. You probably don't need to read the book as you clearly know all there is to know about the man and his relationships.
With regard to society, it surprises me that there is such a level of interest in this man, particularly on a forum like this. But I suppose hundreds of thousands of people buy the Sunday Independent. So maybe I'm wrong.

I obviously hit a nerve somewhere to receive such a lengthy and at times bizarre reply.
With regard to my "pathetic" opening post I would like to clarify a few points.I very rarely listened to Gerry Ryan on the radio and virtually never saw any of his television programmes.Any knowledge I have would be all in the public domain and I would have thought be a similar level of knowledge to anyone with even a cursory interest in topical events.I glanced through the opening couple of paragraphs of a recent newspaper article in which numerous media people denounced the book and some even stated that they would not interview its author because of their friendship with Gerry Ryan.I was merely contrasting this with their ability to doorstep/harrass/interview others when it suits them.I did not imply any knowledge of his private life that was not reported nor could I have as I do not know any unreported facts regarding it.
As the author of the book is a past South African Ambassador to Ireland and director of UNICEF here in Ireland I would have thought she would qualify as a public figure but then again maybe not in your scheme of things.I did not as you wrote imply that she came across very well I stated that she had come across well to me..I remember listening to an interview (possibly with Marian Finucane) in which she discussed her life in South Africa from her Afrikaaner upbring to her marriage into a family synonymous with apartheid and then her subsequent election as an MP for the ANC.I thought she was articulate and came across well.Am I entitled to this opinion??
As for your drunken know all Joe Duffy analogy I'm afraid I'm lost.
With regard to your throwaway comment I merely stated what was in my opinion quite clear...you had contributed twice to a thread on a topic which you had no interest in.As someone whose contributions on here often take the form of sharp often caustic ripostes I would have thought it a perfectly reasonable comment...However in this case Murphy's dog springs to mind.
Your total dope comment was presumably directed at me.Maybe on review of my contributions to the thread and this clarification you might see fit to review that comment.

The silence from Montrose on the issue of a public broadcaster, funded by a compulsory licence fee where non-payment results in veiled threats of jail-time, being a walking car-crash of addiction, is deafening.
But of course, none of his "friends" knew he had personal issues...
