Simon Cox must be Traps love child? I dont know why Trap persists with him? I'll be honest he is plain useless.

Germany's world class attack versus our English division 1 defence. Men V Boys.

Muller or Podolski and Klose. Sweinsteger (excuse my spelling) is back aswell. Darren O'Dea and O'Shea will handle them sureTongue Out

I kinda like Cox for some reason i believe he's an intelligent footballer. People are talking about a weakened Irish team, but is it? Ok i'd rather not have O'Dea in there but other than that i think this is a stronger Irish team. James McLean has been very so-so for Sunderland i'd probably start him, i'd have also started Long, but McCarthy and Fahey are pluses. I think with the way the price is going Ireland are and will end up great value on the handicaps, i don't believe we will perform as badly as we have been with this team. The weakest part of the side is the backline but this midfield might not expose them as much as previous midfields of Ireland did. Ireland +1.25 and +1.5 for me

^^agree most of that. Team strengthened by absence of Keane and Whealan.  Not often Ireland get beaten more than 1 at home, so cant be having Germany on the cap.  Germany struggled past Austria and beaten by Argies previous start. Lads calling it 1/5 are having a laugh.  Its all about value and laying the Germans at 1.44 and a small back of Ireland at 9.5 will do me.

Heard an interesting stat today: Germany, whether as West Germany or since reunification, have never lost an away World Cup qualifier.

he Germans have always been strong qualifiers: in their twelve FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns to date, they have lost just twice, a 1-0 defeat to Portugal in Stuttgart in October 1995, and a thumping 5-1 defeat to England in Munich in September 2001. The Germans have never lost away from home in FIFA World Cup qualifying.

Personally doubt I'll get involved pre-match. Will watch and may get involved in-play. If Germany were to take an early lead, as said before, it could get nasty. But if Ireland can get some sort of foothold in midfield, then it might not be as easy for Germany as expected.

If I was playing pre-match, I have to say a draw at nearly 4/1 would interest me far far more than nibbling Ireland @8/1. Think te draw is more than twice as likely as a home win.

If your right kiddo a 1-1 draw is 10.5 and a 0-0 draw pays 14/1 on betfair..cant us scoreing more then one goal so any one of the two above results might be your best bet..hope im wrong but i cant see it happening myself.Plain

Just seen irishro's comment now, I presumed Walters would play out wide, he has played consistenly well there for Stoke, that's where I'd have him. And leave Long upfront. Cox should not be in the squad, let alone the starting X1, just my opinion. You would often wonder does Trap & Co. pay any heed to club form at all.

Yes the midfield area has been strengthened considerably with the intro. of McCarthy and Fahey and the absence of Whelan but we still remain vulnerable at the back.

I'm delighted Keane is out, I believe his best days are behind him but when you put a line through him and look at what we're left with upfront, we have nothing better?

Do you think Trap would have started McClean if he was available? He is a marked man now in the Prem. As I read in an article this evening his form has gone from 'incredible to incredulous' at Sunderland.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves lads, Germany should win this, we're probably value across everything the more adventurous of us might play the bigger odds laying Germany or even betting ourselves but for me the bet is Ireland on the Asian handicap imo. The last time Germany played Ireland they opened up at 4/5 and went off at 11/10 with one firm most seemed to be from evens to 21/20 now they're going to go off circa 2/5, it's some difference for too big a difference. Ireland +1.235 and +1.5 and a very small lay of Germany.

betting on matches like these is a shortcut to the poorhouse

No matter how bad the irish team look on paper, under Trappatoni they could get a draw.

correct score 3-0, 4-0, 4-1 could be the way to play it if you are on germany rather than 4/9 straight up.

Richard dunne held Ireland together by his finger nails in qualification last time. He isnt playing and Ireland are playing against a team that is superior to the Russian team that gave us a complete footballing lesson in both home and away fixtures.
We are fielding a very inexperienced experimental side, and not by design. Whatever about the harmony in the German team, they are all champions league standard players.

Can this team with some players not playing in there regular positions and some players not getting regular football with there club teams really pull it together enough to put up any sort of real resistance to Germany?

I very much doubt it....

Germany 2-0 / 3-0 / 4-0

Maybe a complete hammering will move along Traps exit.

Rocketfingers is that just the way different firms price up the football handicap, ie surely +1.25 is the same as +1.5 as both mean Germany have to win by 2 goals. Not into football betting big-time did Germany ht/ft at 5/4,while Ireland have seemed to have improved slightly sine the Euros still a bad team and if the Germans aren,t ahead at halftime i,ll be surprised.
By:
db1974

1.25 is Asian Handicap means half your state is on Ireland +1.0 and half your stake is on Ireland +1.5

If Ireland lose by the one goal then the half-stake that is on the +1.0 market is refunded and the half-stake that is on the 1.5 market is a winner.

Hey Pa, no mate they're different bets. Ok -1.25 means if you're a German backer they need to win by 2 for you to collect in full but if they only win by 1 you only lose half your stake. While with -1.5 if you're a German backed you need to win by 2 goals anything less you lose your full stake. The opposite is true if you an Irish backer tonight. Ireland lose by a goal on the +1.25 line you win only half your bet a  draw or a win and you win the full bet. While with the +1.5 if you bet Ireland a 1 goal loss will mean you win your full bet as you need to lose by 2 or more to lose.

The .25 and the .75 lines in Asia basically mean you get your stakes divided between 2 lines as there is no such thing as a quarter of a goal i.e. -1.25 is really written like so (-1, -1.25) -1.75 is written (-1.5, -2) and getting the average odds between the 2 lines. I thought the same as you when i seen it for the first time Pa as well so i know where you're coming from :)

If you want a laugh read Kerrybhoys contributions to this thread. He starts by complaining about the way the forum has declined and with the usual condescending air states has more to be doing himself now when it was pointed out this was only his sixth reply in 11years he flew into a rage called the poster an A.   Hole and admitted he was a multiple account holder.

Wildman you can laugh off Kerrybhoys comment but he is correct, this forum has decended into farce the last year or so (maybe a bit longer).

As for tonights match i'm contemplating taking Germany on, have not decided what to do yet but will either lay them, back the draw or take Ireland on the handicaps. I wouldn't be surprised if the match turns out a lot closer than people think and if Ireland can keep it tight early and get a foothold in the game i don't see them getting thrashed.

Premier you may be correct I am just laughing at him complaining about bickering and then when someone said something he didn't like he descended into insults whilst revealing himself to be a multiple account holder.
That descent into farce will soon become a free fall with the sad demise of Rocketfingers .
