Jamie Spencer was suppose to ride but he didn't get there in time and a chap with a strong irish accent called David Moran rode it. I remember him riding but i thought he just gave up over lack of rides, didn't realise he went to Canada till that race. Had to look him up on Google  Blush

Fresh start for Moran in Canada
10th Jun 2011

Davy Moran (grad. 1999) has embarked on a new life in Canada after ending a ten-year stint with Jim Bolger in April and moving his family to Woodbine in a venture that he hopes will prove “an exciting opportunity”.

Moran got his first taste of Woodbine two years ago when teaming up with former Bolger inmate Roan Inish to win the Princess Elizabeth Stakes and gained further glory at the track last year with the same filly in the Woodbine Oaks. That trip proved something of a turning point for Moran. He said: “I made some good contacts and have got a really good chance here. It feels like the right thing to do. Jim has been so loyal to me and supported the decision all the way through”.

“One of the big draws is that there is racing five days a week and no travelling because it’s all on the same track at Woodbine and we will be living nearby”, he continued.  Although he is yet to secure a Group 1 or Classic winner, Moran has ridden 118 winners in Ireland beginning in 2001 with Margarula, who went on to win the Irish Oaks under Kevin Manning.

Well done Davy Moran, another top jockey who left these shores because of the lack of opportunities and nepotism.
