MODEL Glenda Gilson, a presenter on TV3’s celebrity programme Xpose, has agreed to pay €73,000 in a tax settlement to the Revenue Commissioners.
Gilson made the settlement in unpaid tax, interest and penalties to the tax man for underdeclared incomes tax and VAT, following an audit by revenue officials.
She was among 106 people who have made tax settlements with the Revenue Commissioners totalling almost €20m this year.
Gilson was not answering her phone today.
Also on the list is private school manager Padraig O'Shea, from Borrisoleigh, Co Tipperary, who refused to enrol a pregnant teenager. He made a settlement of more than €700,000 with the taxman.
O'Shea was unrepentant after a Children's Ombudsman investigation ruled that the school had discriminated against the 16-year-old.
The teenager had applied for a place at St Joseph's while pregnant in 2009 and after giving birth in 2010. She was refused on both occasions.
The Revenue said O’Shea had been found to have under-declared income tax in a revenue deposit interest reporting case.
The tax bill was €346,000 plus €100,000 interest and €259,000 in fines.
Bloodstock agent Hugo Merry, from Kilshannig Stud, Co Cork was left with an €84,000 bill for underdeclaration of income tax, following a Revenue investigation.
Of the 106 published cases, totalling €19.8m for the three months to June 2012, 43 were for amounts exceeding €100,000, of which 11 exceeded €500,000 and three of those exceeded €1m.
These include a €1.2m payment by De Gee Drapers, of Northbrook Road, Dublin 6, €1.2m by retired company director David Delahunty of Palmerstown Gardens, Rathmines and €1.1m by company director Barry McDonald, of Factory Hill, Glanmire, Co Cork.
The names of those who have settled with the Revenue Commissioners are not published where the amount is less than €33,000, where the penalty does not exceed 15pc of the amount of tax or where the taxpayer, in advance of the Revenue investigation, makes a voluntary disclosure of any tax liabilities.
