I have had very strong opinions in all of Donegals championship matches this year, fancying them strongly to beat Tyrone and Kerry but having a decent bet on Cork to beat them in the semi final.
The are deserving favourites for the final but its match i have absolutely no strong opinion based on the odds. A lot of people have compared Donegals style of play to Tyrone at their peak but i dont see any comparison. Donegals are a lot more physical and super fit while Tyrone had a lot more pace and blessed with three great players whose careers overlapped. Donegal have evolved their playing style a lot from last year and all for the better. I dont think they are at all a dull team to watch as some people think. Doengal not only beat Tyrone, Kerry and Cork this year - they beat all three into total submission. You have to say though all three of those past winners are ageing teams and Mayo are a lot younger and hungrier. I have not seen any betting for player of the year but my vote would go to the young lad Mc Hugh. He has been brilliant in every match i have watched. He is rightly plauded for his work rate in playing deep but he has a part in nearly all of Donegals scores. |

The one negative i see from a Donegal point of view is their lack of goal scoring threat. When you look at recent past winners, Tyrone, Kerry, Cork and Dublin they all had very good goal scoring forwards.

in the end i decided to let the bet run...i could never get a decent price on Donegal coz of the great start they made
I went heavy on under 31.5 pts so at least I made a profit from the day. |
