Laugh

what a bizzare question!  I know very little about the topic.  Simple answer, no I don't think they were right.  What led you to think that I might have thought differently?

Well, I like to think that today most civilised people disagree with any form of slavery, past or present.  You must have had me down as some sort of Barbarian!

Nor am I left wing or polically correct as you seem to believe.  If anything I am the antithesis of such.

And naturally not only whites are racist.  Anti-whitism is often much more virulent and potent. We (whites) tend to bear such racisim better, however, as we have been conditioned over the centuries to see ourselves as superior.  Therefore it is easier for us to laugh it off.  This can lead to white people expecting black people to also be able to laugh off perceived racism and not make an issue of it.  This is an unfair expectation, we have to thread gently.

i find your ,We (whites) tend to bear such racisim better, however, as we have been conditioned over the centuries to see ourselves as superior....thats not me mate , i dont know were you get that from ...if anything as an irishman i've been made feel inferior by some ...  your , Therefore it is easier for us to laugh it off.  This can lead to white people expecting black people to also be able to laugh off perceived racism and not make an issue of it.  This is an unfair expectation, we have to thread gently...is a little hard to take ...are you telling me that because i'm white i dont have the same hurt feelings as blacks....?...i think your impression of white and black feeling seem to be tapered with a tinge of colour if you'll excuse the pun....

I know what you are saying.  Superiority does not fit easily with Irish folk.  However, over recent centuries, in a global context, to be born white was to have greater life expectancy and greater opportunities.  Hence the subconcious perception of superiority.

Just consider how our use of words has evolved; for example the negative connotations of words including 'black'; blackmail, blacklist, black death, black plague, black magic etc etc. Black is a mysterious color associated with fear and the unknown (black holes) and is associated with grief. White is associated with goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity. It is considered to be the color of perfection.  Now of course we know conciously that color metaphors do not translate into race credibilities, but on a subconcious level......

your words sound familiar ozy , are they on the first page of chairman maos little red book ....Laugh..ffs keep those ideas to yourself , or maybe you might get some 14 yo school kid to believe that tripe...so now that us whites are aware that we are not superior , we have to mind what we say lest we hurt our coloured friends ...i doubt our coloured friends would have the collective ability to stop and think that everytime we used the word black in some shape or form it was ment as an insult to them...thats what you make it sound like..... its time you and your ilk  stopped doing their thinking for them and let them express themselves as they see fit ....start treating them as people who have an opinion , not as you seem to see them , like little children lost in  your world , were white people are only out to insult them ...
