This is not an anti-soccer thread....I enjoy most sports....but ads on now for live premier soccer - the season is far too long.
There is no sense of anticipation because of the Euros aren't that long finished and the last game of the season seems was only a few weeks ago. A very good Euro '12, an excellent Olympics, watching Cork and Galway battle it out in the hurling and its quite hard to hype Chelsea v Wigan and we still have long evenings.
Spoke to a few friends "soccer-heads" and they feel the same, admitted it's a bit hard to get into in August. Outside of gambling I wouldn't bother my ass until the time changes.
In the long run, and as people (like me) become more and more "event junkies" with a broader range of sports interest - the interminable soccer season will be its undoing.
Look at the US, short NFL season September - January, biggest sport by far, less games, more meaningful. Baseball suffering badly by comparison, overkill.
Doesn't bother me as I don't have to watch it unless I want to, and it is useful for punting (good liquidity) when nothing better on, but as for being actually interesting now.
