It was a mighty day at the boxing. The leprechaun fancy dress brigade were out in force. England's favourite Irishman Paddy Do'ck'erty was ringside and 'Ole, Ole, Ole' got several airings. Paddy had to mime cause he wasn't too sure of the words.
Eamon De Valera was famously quoted as saying rugby and hurling were the games best suited to the Irish temperament. Then again he had never seen Cumann na mBan in a boxing ring. |

Nothing new . The Telegraph claimed Joe Carr as British when he won the British Amateur championship way back in the fifties . Joe Carr from Sutton in Dublin which they also reported .
Well done Katie , stayed out of trouble , shrewd . The other girl had a harder bout . |
By:
kelly the reason they claimed joe was...if you were born before 1949 you had dual nationality....
By:
Born Bray , County Wicklow 1986
Ah but sure typical of The Telegraph |
By:
Wonder they didn't claim Ronnie Delany ,Workrider . Dont think Joe Carr would ever have wanted himself to be saddled with the tag British .
By:
agree kelly , but you know them....
By:
I wish they would claim Paddy Do'ck'erty.

Mind you the passport thing can be a bit fraught . My daughter , who has an Irish passport , applied for an Irish passport for her son ,... still waiting . Gave up waiting for someone to do something , applied for a British passport for him via her husband who is English and got it in 4 weeks .
They did receive the application , got her cousin who is a solicitor in Dublin to check that out . |

Well at least Jimmy Magee is Oirish, all 80yrs of him brilliant again with his commentary, has made the boxing at the games, well done Jimmy........... and thanks
By:
The commentary was absolutely pathetic in my opinion, no idea what the hell he was waffling on about for the majority of the bout. He may have been great in his day [i don't know] but he is no use at all now in my opinion, i nearly pissed myself laughing at his commentary a few years back when Bernard Dunne fought Poonsawat, Bernard this Bernard that when he was getting smashed all over the ring
his job is surely to explain to viewers what is happening and that he certainly does not do. |
By:
For agility and balance being a soccer player stood well to her.
By:
Hopefully Katie finishes the job off anyway tomorrow, she deserves it as she's been at the top for a long time now
By:
agree with premier the commentary from jimmy is cringeworthy..its the one drawback of what otherwise is great
By:
Jimmy Magee was imho brilliant again and indeed he has forgotten more about boxing than most could ever claim to know..... Magee is a legend really
By:
He was shambolic and talking rubbish about darts [train] and bray imvho
By:
Magee doesn't commentate on what's happening in the ring, he just waffles and spouts absolute sh!te.
Obviously that's enough for some people. ![]() |
By:
Have to say it time jimmy was sent out to grass ..i could/nt take any more of his rambling on during the fights so i had to watch Katie on the bbc. .. i can only assume that JayTrumpOldTomDubbl is Jimmys best m8 if he thinks that this is brillant commentating.. STOP trying to be mr nice guy Jimmy and do your job.
