I've enjoyed the Olympics overall, the Brits have done a brilliant job of it.

However had little or no interest in Football, Tennis, Basketball all relatively mainstream sports with their own championships which are the pinnacle of their sport, just not the same value in an olympic medal than in other sports. Amateur preferably but difficult to enforce, stuck with them afraid. (Plus Golf next time!! Wait til McIlroy lines out for Britain).

Other sports than need to be shown the door:

- Synchronised Swimming (FFS - has been a joke for ever)
- Walking......laughable, ungovernable and looks stupid  (better having a 3-legged or sack race)
- BMX cycling....??  WTF
- Trampoline.....Whheeeee! Look at me

Know the rules are a bit hit and miss regarding feet on the ground,but think they are athletes alright basically running for 50kms,deserves its place in an Olympics much more than the rest of your list,dressage an omission,what the feck can a horse do with a medal.

ye can throw in womens boxing while ye are at it......not sure it is any worse than BMX cycling......but it has to be a close run thing......maybe they should include ploughing......and we might get another gold......

There are other subjective elements in the Gymnastics (Artistic and Rhymic) that would definitely come under scrutiny as well.....I've just switched-off and haven't really given them the "proper-sport"/"half-assed sport" examination.

The skill, timing and acrobatic ability of those artistic gymnasts is superb, watched some of them with a hula hoop, mind boggling what they can do.

Any "sport" which comes from the circus tradition is suspect in my book .

Cant be bothered listing them , think most have been mentioned in despatches .

Any sport where the equipment is of more significance than the athlete is also suspect .  Horse based might be included in that , but it has proved its worth in spectator and sport terms , and it always remains one of our best hopes for medals .

If you need a 10 k bike to compete , its not very "sporting" .  In some countries in the world you could feed a whole village for a year for 10 k . At that level , applying reductio ad absurdum , why not Formula One ?

Goalhanger don't know what fight you were watching?, 2nd round apart Nevin was comprehensively outboxed in both the 1st and 3rd, tell me this how did Campbell only win the last round by 2 points which also included a standing count when he seemed to pick off Nevin almost at will?, the final margin was extremely generous to Nevin.

Standing count, it was as close a thing to a slip you will see, brushed him for sure but i think he lost his footing, i am not denying he got outboxed but geniunely believe his tactics were horrific, when he went with flurries he was catching Campbell continually, problem was he was getting caught on the way back, zero movement.

Goalhanger, whether you thought it deserved a standing count or not is immaterial, it was given, so Campbell gained a point, so basically the judges would have you believe that only one point separated the 2 boxers in that final round when you omit the standing count from the equation, which was quite simply ridiculous.

Nevin did throw a few flurries very few if any clean punches were been landed particulary in the first and 3rd rounds.
As for tactics, maybe Nevin had his tactics spot on for all we know?, but Campbell just so happened to be the superior boxer on the day.
