Maybe - but I can barely look at that - it looks so painful. Good luck to him, and the other Irish guys.

Have to say it really is a dubious sport. Impossible not to break the rulesConfused.

Related to above:-

I've enjoyed the Olympics overall, the Brits have done a brilliant job of it.

However had little or no interest in Football, Tennis, Basketball all relatively mainstream sports with their own championships which are the pinnacle of their sport, just not the same value in an olympic medal than in other sports. Amateur preferably but difficult to enforce, stuck with them afraid. (Plus Golf next time!! Wait til McIlroy lines out for BritainLaughLaugh).

Other sports than need to be shown the door:

- Synchronised Swimming (FFS - has been a joke for ever)
- Walking......laughable, ungovernable and looks stupid  (better having a 3-legged or sack race)
- BMX cycling....??  WTF
- Trampoline.....Whheeeee! Look at meLaughLaugh
Report pa lapsy August 11, 2012 10:26 AM BST
Know the rules are a bit hit and miss regarding feet on the ground, but think they are athletes alright basically running for 50kms,deserves its place in an Olympics much more than the rest of your list, dressage an omission, what the feck can a horse do with a medal.
Report bobbybocala August 11, 2012 10:36 AM BST
ye can throw in womens boxing while ye are at it......not sure it is any worse than BMX cycling......but it has to be a close run thing......maybe they should include ploughing......and we might get another gold......
Report Wallflower August 11, 2012 10:40 AM BST
Yeah, I agree definitely athletes, but still think its nearer jogging than walking.

Ok, I've grouped them in my "hit-list" of 4, and out of benevolence on my part I may grant them a reprieveHappy. For the other three, I'm afraid the Court of Wallflower would offer no clemencyDevil.

Yes, Dressage a definite omission on my behalf.

There are other subjective elements in the Gymnastics (Artistic and Rhymic) that would definitely come under scrutiny as well.....I've just switched-off and haven't really given them the "proper-sport"/"half-assed sport" examination.
Report Wallflower August 11, 2012 10:43 AM BST
Actually, bobby...you are right there. Ploughing could definitely be considered to have more sporting attributes than BMX or Trampoline. Well-spotted. Can't see it getting itHappy, but a valid point all the same. Well done, sirCool
Report silvergreaser August 11, 2012 10:51 AM BST
what the feck can a horse do with a medal.

Love it!

The skill, timing and acrobatic ability of those artistic gymnasts is superb, watched some of them with a hula hoop, mind boggling what they can do.
Report Kelly August 11, 2012 11:24 AM BST
Any "sport" which comes from the circus tradition is suspect in my book .

Cant be bothered listing them , think most have been mentioned in despatches .

Any sport where the equipment is of more significance than the athlete is also suspect .  Horse based might be included in that , but it has proved its worth in spectator and sport terms , and it always remains one of our best hopes for medals .

If you need a 10 k bike to compete , its not very "sporting" .  In some countries in the world you could feed a whole village for a year for 10 k . At that level , applying reductio ad absurdum , why not Formula One ?

Its his choice to run for whoever he wants.  Get over it.  He grew up there, chose to represent Great Britain and they have embraced him.

Lets face it, he is everything you despise; Black, Muslim and British.  You wouldn't want him even if he had turned up on our shores as a little 8 year old with nothing in his pocket.

Report Ozymandius August 11, 2012 9:20 PM BST
If Mo had turned up here as an 8 year old and lived anywhere near people of you ilk, 100% he would have represented Somalia and not Ireland.
Report wildmanfromborneo August 11, 2012 9:26 PM BST
Mainly because he is Somalian.
Report Goalhanger August 11, 2012 9:29 PM BST
When all the b!tching is done by all the women here can we discuss the fight.

Personally think Nevin chucked it, thought he was unlucky to be behind in the first caught Campbell with some great shots at the end of the first. Dunne said it to a tee, he did not move like he did in previous fights, he had to chase and got picked off. Sounds strange but with basic tactics he would have won that. Any chance he will go pro?
Report Ozymandius August 11, 2012 9:31 PM BST
No, mainly because you are a racist, neanderthal ignoramus.
Report tobywong. August 11, 2012 9:32 PM BST
wouldn't think so goalhanger , given he was put on the floor tonight and in the quarters would indicate he may not be suited to the pro game , but as bernard said he was too predictable tonight!
Report kingrat August 11, 2012 9:37 PM BST
no,i dont think hes good enough  to go pro,hes got a lot of the basics but dosent have a punch
Report silvergreaser August 11, 2012 9:55 PM BST
Goalhanger don't know what fight you were watching?, 2nd round apart Nevin was comprehensively outboxed in both the 1st and 3rd, tell me this how did Campbell only win the last round by 2 points which also included a standing count when he seemed to pick off Nevin almost at will?, the final margin was extremely generous to Nevin.
Report Goalhanger August 11, 2012 10:03 PM BST
Standing count, it was as close a thing to a slip you will see, brushed him for sure but i think he lost his footing, i am not denying he got outboxed but geniunely believe his tactics were horrific, when he went with flurries he was catching Campbell continually, problem was he was getting caught on the way back, zero movement.
Report kingrat August 11, 2012 10:18 PM BST
a slip?i think he got caught which helped him on his way, nevin got a few swift and clean sweet ones into campbell but didnt knock a stur out of him,but i agree with u gold,he got outboxed and should have got cambell in toe to toe stuff
Report silvergreaser August 11, 2012 10:21 PM BST
Goalhanger, whether you thought it deserved a standing count or not is immaterial, it was given, so Campbell gained a point, so basically the judges would have you believe that only one point separated the 2 boxers in that final round when you omit the standing count from the equation, which was quite simply ridiculous.

Nevin did throw a few flurries very few if any clean punches were been landed particulary in the first and 3rd rounds.
As for tactics, maybe Nevin had his tactics spot on for all we know?, but Campbell just so happened to be the superior boxer on the day.
Report Diamond_Joe_Quimby August 11, 2012 10:30 PM BST
Bill just went blank when trying to remember yer mans name....."Ailish......... err the lads"
Report punchestown August 12, 2012 1:52 PM BST
Nevin had to look for Campbell which didn't suit him,his footwork wasn't up to his own high standard and was never going to win a punch up with this guy which is how it panned out last night.
