Moyglare Stud owner Walter Haefner has passed away peacefully in Switzerland aged 101.
Haefner purchased Moyglare Stud Farm in 1962 and had terrific success with Curragh trainer Dermot Weld.

His black, white and red colours were carried by such stars as Go And Go, Media Puzzle, Refuse To Bend, Dance Design, Brief Truce, Definite Article and Trusted Partner.

His daughter Eva-Maria had taken over the stud in the last few years.

The Moyglare colours were carried to success at Royal Ascot last week by Princess Highway and Speaking Of Which is set to contest this weekend's Irish Derby.

Haefner owned AMAG Automobil- und Motoren, a highly successful Swiss automobile dealership chain, and was estimated to be worth 4 billion last year.

Very sad all right.

Let's hope the daughter keeps up interest as they have been a major player in the the Dermot Weld stable along with their stud in Maynooth where Jimmy Feane and Stan Cosgrove have been stalwarts.

Sad day all round for racing following on from the very sad news of Campbell Gilles death on holday in Greece.
