What a stable. Even the rank outsiders are champions.

I don't blame murtagh for his ride. It's not his fault that the kid gave the pacemakers too much rope. Also, why did joseph not make the move when murtagh moved alongside him. He surely would have won. Awful tactics, dreadful ride.

That's horseracing though isn't it. Another half furlong and the result might have been different perhaps.

Think Joseph recognized the pacemakers were too far gone and didnt want to give Murtagh a tow towards them. When it was clear Sharestan wasnt going to win he chased Windsor Palace without ever looking like getting there. A good result for Ballydoyle as they got a 1-2 if not the expected winner.

The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that St Nicholas Abbey was Post Race Normal. Having viewed the video of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

The pacemaker ran on its merits and its not the first time a pacemaker has won.
St Nicholas Abbey hated the ground but his target is the Coronation Cup.

This might just be a first wildman but I agree entirely with all of your comments there!

if you look at the race  at a non betting point of view, that was a perfect trial for SNA,
Just what Coolmore would have wanted.i'm not saying it's right, far from it,but its the truth.

COD and JOB would have got a bollocking tonite,Magnier will be fuming with SNA getting beaten especially over 10f,despite what certain posters think here Magnier's only interest of any suastance is in the breeding operation-No chance Sna will run in Ascot gold cup would ruin him as a stallion prospect, ascot gold cup winners will be primarily for nh offspring and would only stand for a fee of 5/7k

The man with the plaid cap had a major gamble years ago on a horse trained by Michael Cunningham in Down Royal,it was backed into 6/4 he had an unconsidered beast in the race also ridden by an apprentice that was to pacemake,he did his job poorly because he went off too fast but to the consternation of the punters whilst the favourite emerged from the pack it was obvious he wasn`t going to catch the pacemaker. The pacemaker won with the favourite second, the disgruntled punters who had hatched the plot were fighting among themselves when the brother of the gentleman who loves his chips joined in saying " we are not dead yet " some whispering a judicious distracting of the steward Mr Defarge and suddenly an apprentice had failed to weigh in.The inevitable followed horse disqualified and race awarded to the runner up and favourite, happy days, the betting ring soon resembled the wailing wall and then a doomed to failure strike, they stood down for one race before reluctantly accepting their fate.
Long winded way to say a pacemaker has won before.

A small crowd turned up at HQ on a showery day.

Race 1) Move To Strike 4/6f. A shade of odds on this one was backed in close to the off and made mincemeat of the opposition. A rare winner for Bolger of late.

Race 2) Takar 5/4f. Took a walk in the market as the money came for Triumphant. Johnny tucked in and moved out at the furlong marker and won easy. A taking performance but what he beat remains to be seen. This was race where a Ballydoyle gamble came unstuck spectacularly. Chronicle led the way taking all odds from 4/1 into 9/4. They also were first to put out the fav even going longer than BF.

Race 3) Gossamer Seed 9/1. A surprise here as the rag always prominent went away from the flattering jolly Bulbul (5/4f) inside the last furlong. John Murphy has been known to have the odd Curragh winner.

Race 4) Ondeafears 6/1. This one was marked out on here as a future winner after his last run at the Leop from a rank bad draw. Always prominent he destroyed the opposition which will bring about a big rise in the handicap. Winning Impact(5/1f) the well backed jolly stayed on for second.

Race 5) Windsor Palace 66/1. Himself and Robin Hood shared pacemaking duties and were allowed to slip the field. The jolly SNA (2/5f)received an injudicious ride and ran on all too late. Surely if this was from a small stable the horse would have got a 40 day ban missed his big target ( a la David's Lad) the trainer fined a Grand and the jockey copping a 10 day ban.

Race 6) Wrekin Rock 7/1. A rare winner for the Jim Gorman stable. Fair form at Punchestown LTO meant he was well able to exploit his 52 rating. The jolly Mahaazen (5/1) ran a lot better than I expected being a 3 yr old filling the runner up spot.

Race 7) Singing Bird 16/1. I never seen this one till the death but another rag for Wachman for the second day running. Qasser (1/1f) flattered but got run out of the places continueing a woefol season for out of form Curragh trainer Kevin Prendergast.

Race 8) Bouillabaisse 8/1. A nice winner for Colm Murphy. Patiently ridden this one came between horses to win cosily from the flattering The Mighty Milan. Pique Sous (11/8f) ran an honourable race in third. Nice to see Colm getting patronage from Barry Connell and J P McManus whom he had a beaten jolly at Gowran on Sunday.

What/who are you talking about?
Report Bassanio May 9, 2012 1:53 PM BST
Colm has run at least 7 McManus runners this year and has more at home unraced. His patronage is hardly new and the results so far have been terrible. Connell has at least 3 with him and probably more.

How exactly The Mighty Milan was flattering and Pique Sous was honourable is beyond me. The Mighty Milan ran a solid race and will improve for a step up in trip. Just beaten by a more speedily bred and very useful mare.
