coming shortly to the Augusta Omniplex.
Starring Padraig Harrington as a tortured soul who has known glory days but now scrimmages around trying to recapture his former status.
In this horror movie Harrington arrives in the charged arena at Augusta surrounded by a bevy of shrinks , coaches and personal assistants. He comes fresh from bogeying the last three par 5s he played at the Shell Houston but he has never lost faith in his ability to scale the heights again.
A sneak preview of the action tells us he plays a sparkling first round , proclaims himself happy with where his game is at and proceeds to miss the cut.

Hope your scenario is wrong , Vubiant , but must admit I would not back Padraig with anything approaching even minimal confidence . But Augusta sometimes throws up anomalies , and hope springs eternal . Cant add much to that , Padraig has become an enigma wrapped in a mystery , although thankfully he has avoided a complete drift into anonymity a la Cambo and several others .

So do I Kel ...I'm a fan of the guy from way back ...just having a bit of fun. I feel pain and frustration at his drastic decline so soon and so unexpected.
Nothing would delight me more than to have him on the leaderboard over the w/end. Can't see a win -but maybe he'll surprise us all with a top ten.
Meantime Rory is the story. That he has the game to win is not in question . It's going to be a hell of a test for him to keep his head straight when the media get into high revs.
But even if he doesn't win the Masters this year it's only a matter of time before he does.

Interview in he Guardian recently where he made the point that in the last five years nobody won more majors than him.  Nobody.

Heartening display from Padraig , best for a long time .  Pity he messed up the last , when he could have finished higher , but top 10 is always good .

Open might just suit him again .

That Harrington was unlucky today. Was probably the best player out there tee to green, but the putts just didn't drop. Was frustrating to watch, can't imagine what it must have been like in his shoes! Sad

Westwood was the best out there tee to green , slabster .  If he had Padraigs short game he would be some player !

Still well played Padraig , kept our interest alive with Rory going walkabout .

Yeh he sure likes to let everyone know about this, (2007,2008) he said the exact same words when interviewed on tv after his Masters third round, he came across very arrogant, even his interview after last nights round sounded cocky too.

Yeh you're are correct Padraig technically, but you've freefalled down the world rankings for a reason apart from the odd minute burst of form you've been playing cr-ap.
I'd take a cautious approach as far as Harrington is concerned, there's been a few false dawns from Harrington the last few years, his good Masters showing could well be a springboard or yet another false dawn?, I'd be very weary of any sportsman who has shrinks in tow!.

Dave McNeilly the caddy Harrington unceremoniously dumped said Padraig was one of the least gifted of all the golfers he's worked with as such he has to work so much much harder at the game than the more naturally talented players, maybe Harrington is working his mind too much as well?.

There was always something about Harrington compared to other top Irish golfers I couldn't quite put my finger on?, is it insincerity?, of course it goes without saying and its a well known fact that if the volatile Darren Claek is having a bad day its wise to leave well enough alone, at least its black and white as far as Clark is concerned.

No like you too be negative and critical, silvergreaser!

Perhaps you should try and adopt some of Padraig's confident posivity.  Your world might be a happier place.

Never discussed Padraig with Dave . He caddied for Sir Nick when I used to run across him at the tournaments in Ireland .  Daves comments were always valid as seen from his record  , Faldo , Price , Harrington etc .  When Dave started with Padraig , Padraig was 35 approx in the world rankings , when he "left" Padraig was No 7 . Some of that was down to the man on the bag . Now with Manassero I see .

Correct to say that Padraigs natural gift at the game was nowhere near Darrens , but Padraig became the best upper and downer in the world game , credit to him for that .  And 3 majors cant be bad . But he is no longer  a "safe conveyance" in horse racing terms .

Just hope he can build on his slightly better recent form .

great to see him back contending at the big dance after all the tinkering and swing changes

they ve all had days where if the putts had only dropped so he ll be back in the winners enclosure sooner or later

I think this is a public forum and I'm entitled to an opinion no matter what the tone, its an observation on Harrington are Irish sports stars beyond reproach?, I don't think I'm alone on this, as evidenced by another thread, even a few of my workmates thought Harringtons interview had a very arrogant tone to it and has turned them off him somewhat.

Should he not be thinking about the future instead of constantly reminding the world about his past glories?.
At first I thought maybe it came across a little assways, not what Harrington originally intended but considering he had said the same thing in a Guardian article suggests that he wanted the whole wide world to hear him.

Which Irish sports people do you most admire Silvergreaser?
Report Vubiant April 9, 2012 9:26 PM BST
could be a pretty skimpy list that one . Laugh
Report db1974 April 9, 2012 9:56 PM BST
Hanging on to past glories from 4-5 years ago is not the way forward IMO. Less so when stating it publicly. You don't hear Woods banging on about his 14 majors (or whatever it is)

Delighted to see him play well over the 4 days but he did not come across well in that interview at all.
Report wildmanfromborneo April 9, 2012 10:16 PM BST
He is asked the same questions about his poor form, his swing changes and his slide down the rankings yet he always remains polite, nothing wrong with a gentle reminder that he is the most successful golfer over the last five years, confidence booster as well.
Twas the banging done for Woods.
Report silvergreaser April 9, 2012 11:05 PM BST
Wildman if he was the most successful golfer over the last 5 years you wouldn't suddenly slump to 90 something in the world rankings would you?.

My fav Irish sports star for those who are interested "Sonia Sullivan"
Report wildmanfromborneo April 9, 2012 11:10 PM BST
He is in serious decline and the five years is including his two great years so it is somewhat skewed.
I presume you are joking about Sonia O`Sullivan.
Report silvergreaser April 9, 2012 11:11 PM BST

Report wildmanfromborneo April 9, 2012 11:13 PM BST
Explain.
Report silvergreaser April 9, 2012 11:14 PM BST
Not joking one bit wildman, she is what all sports stars should be about, unassuming comfortable with her ability never thought she was GOD?,

Harrington might need to take a page off Sonia's humilty book?
Report wildmanfromborneo April 9, 2012 11:21 PM BST
Sonia had plenty to be humble about.
Harrington would be renowned for being down to earth and genuine and very popular among his peers with the exception of Garcia, the way he took that infamous disqualification was a measure of the man.
Report silvergreaser April 9, 2012 11:31 PM BST
Sonia O'Sullivan?, what an ambassador?, yet I might be a bit biased when she took off her shirt to reveal a Kildare shirt at the 1998 All Ireland Final, yeh I'm still suffering the after effects of that match, I don't think I'll ever get over it?.
