Nina Carberry was crowned The Irish Times/Irish Sports Council Sportswoman of the Year for 2011 today.
The 27-year-old from Ratoath collected the award at a ceremony in Dublin for her outstanding achievements in Irish sport.
Carberry became only the second female jockey to win the Irish Grand National when she partnered Organisedconfusion for her uncle Arthur Moore back in April and was presented by an Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

Delighted for Nina she is just fantastic and looks luvly also ........witness her ride on the Elliott horse the other dat ......out of this world ...........
in all fairness jay the ride on don cossack was not 1 of her finest in saying that not many other amateurs wud have got up to win but all the jockeys in that race gave the leader to much of a lead . but great to see her get all the recognition she deserves
well done nina, but i would of thought katie taylor should have got it as she is now world renowned.
Newmanix I thought the same too. I've no doubt though Katie will win a dozen of them.

fly, im sure katie would be able to beat them lads also.
I've no doubt either. If she was allowed to go toe to toe with the lads in her respect she would beat a few. Would we ever see the day!

As much as I admire Nina, a brilliant jockey, her achievement of winning the Grand National pales into insignificance compared to Fionnuala Britton winning the European X country title. As fo Katie Taylor, I think her achievements are somewhat over rated.
