The fact that Johnny Harrington had a serious neck injury may have caused turmoil in the yard.

On Rothwell, that bumper horse that was punted the other day, bit free and then nothing, might be anwsering my own question a bit here, but when I was starting out money for one of his was to be respected.

What are you on about wildman you complete and utter fruit and nut.Johnny Harringtons neck injury has absolutely zero to do with anything,because basically johnny harrington has nothing to do with it.Stable going through a quiet spell but as most will already know jessica is as rough as a badgers arrse when it comes to her training methods.She has done things that no top trainer would even attempt and with her best horses as well.Couple that with the continued policy of utilising ordinary riders then its quiet easy to see why she may not be having winners.All the top owners/trainers use the best jockeys available,jessica doesnt so if you dont maximise your chances then inevitably you will pay the penalty eventually.

Mincer i know this will be a concept that is alien to you but if your spouse is ill or injured you care for them and you worry.Jessica Harrington is a great trainer but i think the worry and not giving the job her full attention is the reason for this temporary blip but she will return to the top shortly.

How do you know she is not giving training her full attention ?,the answer as usual is that you are guessing such.Again you will have no basis for your assertion but that hardly ever bothered you before now did it.She is a most over rated trainer in reality because all the top trainers will maximise their chances and she blatantly doesnt be it over jumps or on the flat.Plus as i said earlier some of her training methods are dog rough,these are facts that i am referring to,not guesses like your good self wildman.

Maybe Wildman knows Jessie? Or maybe the Wildman is a confident of Jessie/Johnny or the wider Harrington family? Or is it simply more BS from Wildclown?

Its more bullshitt of course but at this stage it would be surprising if it wasnt anything else.

Might make a few phone calls around the industry (Top jocks, leading trainers, high profile owners and head lads) and see what i can come up with.

Paul Nolan. Last winner was at Limerick on the 13th of November, a little over a month now and has had 19 runners since. However he has had a good few 2nds and 3rds over that period so one or two could go one better over the Christmas and break his duck. Joncol

It is hardly surprising that Rocketfingers would like Mincer not understand that someone would look after a sick or ill spouse,its what all natural people do.
Mincer states that her training methods are rough on what basis are you making this assertion.

It means this that a sad sick middle aged man who still lives with his parents and occupies a fantasy world where he has all these contacts would not understand why somebody would have concern for their spouse.

Rothwell is d worst trainer in Ireland. He must be some talker to keep the owners he has. He must have 30 horses at least and very rarely a winner. Looks clueless.  Buy a horse out of this guys stable with any bit of form and send him to any decent trainer and you have on your hands a horse who will win a few races.

Trainers having quiet spells are often deliberate, probably laying out a host of horses for xmas and new year period.
Come back to me in February if she's still on the cold list by then!.

I will tell you exactly what I mean by this snaafi dancer,I will give you 3 examples of ludicrous stuff she has done,the kind of thing that somebody like Mullins wouldn't even consider .Oscars well was a reserve one day in thurles and wasn't expected to get in to the race,so it was worked with all the other horses that worked from her string that morning.After it worked jessy got the call that it was now eligible to run in thurles as a few of the intended runners had been withdrawn.What does Jessica do?,yes you guessed it and that is send it to thurles immediately to run in a race where power brained it and gave it the most cruel ride imaginable to manage to get it beat.On top of that she faced the same horse into a skating rink in Navan last year when surely it wasn't raceable,but the worst of all is that she ran bostons angel in Cork one day on ice when there is no way it should have been on.The same day jimmy mangan deemed it unfit for his horses,2 ordinary ones at that,yet amazingly jessy thought it was ok to run a subsequent Cheltenham winner there

Agree 100%. This season to date he has had 3 winners from 170 runners. You would want to be half mad to send a horse down to him. No disrespect he is a nice bloke and all but you have to question his ability to train horses. Abysmal records.

How do you know Oscars Well worked that mornind,did Rocketfingers tell you.
He did get a hard race in Thurles but that was because her horses try,it can`t have done him any harm as he won his next three races.
He won the race in Navan so well placed and again did him no harm.
Your final point about Bostons Angel is answered by yourself when you say subsequent Cheltenham winner.Can you not see the irony.Again he went on to win 5 more races.

I know it because she actually said it on the paper one day in an article she does on the Irish examiner every Saturday ,and to say that running horses on ice is an example of good training is even by your standards pretty bewildering.Obviously just another anti Christ moment on your behalf wildman,but we have came to expect that.I suppose that getting Power to ride horses when Geraghty is available and bringing over Fran Berry to ride a horse in the 2000 guineas are more examples of her special talent.Yes Jessica is so good that she can give the other trainers a chance by using the worst jockeys available in classics at newmarket

I agree with you in regards her choice of jockeys especially Fran Berry but you still don`t address the fact that the two horses you mentioned have thrived.She picked up 2 handy races by running Bostons Angel at Cork and Oscars Well at Navan and that is one of the skills of training.

The best jockeys lose most of the classics they ride in mincer, do you think if Frankie rode it the horse would have ran any different?.

Berry did drop his whip on the Curragh.

I think she should be praised for her loyalty and not falling for the myth that just because you're a big name jockey you're somehow going to make the beast run faster, its not as if she is putting up 10lb claimers ffs.

Wildman the fact that they both thrived is irrelevant surely.On each occasion an unnecessary risk was taken even though on both occasions she got away with it.The fact that other trainers deemed the ground was unsatisfactory is surely a tell tale sign.Silvergreaser the point is and I'd imagine that anybody with the iq of a pig could see it,is that giving away an advantage by bringing a journeyman jockey to ride in a classic is not exactly the most clever idea in the world.Big races aren't easy to win and Power has cost jessy more than one Grade 1 in his time,other trainers would not be so forgiving

Kauto Star made a series of mistakes before eventually dumping Ruby on the floor in the 2010 gold cup, and many believe Ruby is the best jockey riding today.

Have you any evidence mincer that Power has cost Jessica more than one grade one? or is that you dislike him so much you convince yourself everytime it was his fault although maybe the horse simply wasn't good enough?.

Well Oscars Well fired away the Sun Alliance and Roberto Goldback the grade 1 at punchestown for starters.On top of losing the race in the latter case she even managed to lose the horse to Dessie hughes as well

Robert Power by the way shouldnt be mentioned in the same breath as Ruby Walsh,and as we are on the subject of jockeys then its possible that the stable amateur may well be the worst rider currentky riding in bumpers,if shes not then id like to see who is worse

Horses make mistakes as I've pointed out with Kauto and Ruby, in fact Ruby seems to spend as much time on the sidelines as he does riding these days so many bad falls he's been having, is it that these large dumb animals can be very unpredictable I wonder?.

Mrs Harringtons horses are clearly not running well at present.I think the last winner the stable had was when Jenari won in mid november and they have had plenty of good horses with live chances since . Bostons Angels run in Sandown was dreadful. Gordon Elliott has also had better times.

I'd be inclined to think that Mincer is talking rubbish here. None of the reasons you cite for Jessies training being "rough as a badgers arse" raised my eyebrows. Many trainers will give their horses some sort of exercise on the day of a race, be it a little breeze or just a leg stretch. The fact that she then sent Oscars Well to the races is not a poor reflection on her at all.

The other two examples you mention don't stand up either, as if racing went ahead, those in change and the professionals on track must have been happy with the surface, so to knock a trainer for running her horses in such circumstances is ridiculous. Some trainers might have deemed the conditons unsafe, but the fact that racing went ahead suggests that the majority were happy.

Regarding the jockey situation, sure Robbie Power isn't Tony McCoy and Fran Berry isn't Johnny Murtagh, but they are both capable of competing at the highest level and I'd imagine the main reason Jessie uses them so much is that they are based in the yard, know the horses, have a real involvement in the setup and can be relied on to ride whenever required in races, as opposed to using a best available system which lacks continuity and commitment.

Jessie has proved herself at the highest level over jumps and on the Flat and frankly it is deeply disrespectful to refer to someone that has achieved so much as havingmethods that are "rough as a badgers arse". Cop on.

paddy well said.im astounded that a trainer who trained so many g1 winners in both codes to be described as such.i was involved in a horse one time that fell at the last(she trained another one in same race) and she was as helpful and genuinely nice making sure the horse was ok etc..and it was lashing rain .she had moscow sweet for a lot of years so i think the comment is unfounded and totally wrong..

In all fairness kavvie being nice to connections of a stricken horse in the rain hardly constitutes the right to be named as a top trainer and to paddywhaker,Jessica has used ordinary jockeys over the years often preferring Leigh over Geraghty at times.You say continuity is a big issue for her,well firstly Berry was her jockey of choice even when he was stable jockey to Oxx,and I don't see much continuity at Hendersons or Nicholls as their retained riders will hardly ever ride out and they are the best riders around.Finally no matter what anybody says anyone who works a horse and runs it on the same day has no regard for punters or the general public.I for one have never heard the like of that in all my life

Dessie Hughes, Paul Nolan, Gordon Elliott, Arthur Moore, Tony Mullins, Jessie Harrington, Dusty Sheehy, Philip Rothwell, and Tommy Cooper in my book are all lacking in the winners department on a regular basis this winter.

Different trainers want different things and Jessie clearly wants continuity and loyalty. Even when Fran was with Oxx, you can bet he was down in Moone a few days a week. I'm not saying it's the right way to do it, but I can see why she does it and good luck to her.

FWIW, I've been around a lot of yards and an awful lot of them like to give horses some exercise on the morning of a race, some very little, some quite a bit. It is designed to help the horse's chance, whether they want to knock a bit of the freshness off a hard puller or give a stiff sort a stretch and warm up. More old fashioned trainers like to "open their windpipe" by giving them a little breeze. Very common.

I heard a story of a high-profile Curragh-based trainer that got his work list mixed up and a horse that was running later that afternoon was properly galloped on the morning of a race. The owner was due over from England to see the horse run, so the trainer decided to say nothing and run it. The horse hacked up. Goes to show.

Anyone know what happened Paul Gilligan? Fancied to make some sort of breakthrough when he won with Berties Dream at Chelt 2 years ago and then a few weeks later Jadanli picked up a big prize. Seems to have gone backwards lost BD too.

Some time ago on this forum some one asked the question if you had a horse what trainer would you choose to train it...... well I plumped for Jesse H but would not do so now as I feel she has lost the run of herself......bad enough putting up poor jockeys (leigh+power), but sticking with her amateur is really taking the biscuit..........and I take on board what wildman says re her spouse but even so Jesse H outta form and cold at the moment ... maybe too much pressure with flat and NH........another trainer that really should be doing a lot better is Jim Dreaper...when did he last have a winner and I'm not talking about P2P'ts as I saw he had a win down south recent enough....but when did he last saddle a winner inside the rails ......and does anyone know what is his son doing now as he was a fairly handy jockey.....
