Shaping up to be a very interesting race. Hopefully most of entries will take part. Quito de la roque is not going for it, but with tranquil sea, golden silver, rubi light, Joncol, kempes and cooldine all entries at the moment it looks fascinating.
Big rubi light fan but it would also be interesting to see golden silver over this trip now.

Prob only 7 in it, GS heading to Mallow. Very good race

Not sure it is really a quality race though guys, the only one with even a chance of lining up in the Gold Cup is Rubi Light. We really are starved over here for good staying chasers. Quito de la Roque might anwser the call, but who are we kidding?, even if he won the Gold Cup, it would be a weak one because lets face it, he is a plodder and i don't think he'd ever be a public horse. I'd say Kauto and denman at their best would lap him.

tranquil sea, golden silver, rubi light, Joncol, kempes and cooldine aren't grade 1 horses for me with the possible exception of RL, it is just that we have been absolutely starved of anything with a few gears.

They wont need gears Sunday, just ability to keep going!! Jockey bookings will be interesting

yes indeed, can't believe a few don't target this instead of the Peterborough at Huntingon, some of those English trainers need to get a look at the Irish form book. Sommersby would have a right chance in this.

Report rubyisgodinthesaddle December 6, 2011 8:34 PM GMT
Rubi Light is a serious tool. I am all over him provided he runs and hope to get a price above 2/1. This lad is a smashing horse and would have thumped Europe earlier on.

Wow he is the best of these at this trip by 6l for me
Report Distant View December 6, 2011 9:39 PM GMT
Lots of firms have opened betting on it and you can get above the 2/1 for him.

A race thats often used as a prep for the Leopardstown xmas meeting a few of them won't be fully wound up you can be sure.
Tranquil Sea almost certainly will be there on merit to defend the crown he won last year.

Cheers fly, no disrespect to any connections who might read that either, I'd only be so lucky to own horses as 'bad' as thatLaugh

I think I've it down to Rubi Light or Joncol as well myself, Tranquil sea will be dangerous as well but I'd say the other two are better horses than him at this stage and on that ground. It is a bit pity Pandorama isn't around as I'd say he'd make them all go even at that trip.

One from left field for ye, the Pipes are always going on about Grand Crus loving heavy ground, this would have been a grand race to test him out in open company(or bottom himLaugh I hear the cry) He'd have put a few on the gate, seems to jump brilliantly to me.
Report Shotgun Willy December 6, 2011 10:52 PM GMT
ya,he would add to the gate allright, really exhuberant. Pipe's never seem to come here anymore

Is Joncol not very short @ 3.6 over 2m 4f??(Ground will be soft but still?)Carberry will have to make a lot of use of him.On Current bf prices I think 10/11 looks generous on Rubi Light and Tranquil sea coupled.
Report Slabster December 10, 2011 9:13 PM GMT
Rubi Light is the one to beat and would have won easily lat time out. Third at Cheltenham, I wonder what price Poquelin or Kalahari King would be here? About 3/1 I would think. He's still quite going the right way and could yet be very good.

I heard somewhere that connections of Joncol were never 100% happy with him last term, and he was believed to be below par. He certainly seemed to finish rather tamely at Leopardstown twice last season. It's possible the stiff 3 miles is as far as he wants, and last time out over 2m6f he was very impressive, although Cooldine went out like a light. He was excellent when he beat In Compliance in this a couple of years ago.

Tranquil Sea is a class act on his day, but is difficult to catch right. He looked to be out of the top drawer when he won the Paddy Power with ease from Poquelin. Connections were ultra confident ahead of the Ryanair this year, only for the horse to miss the festival. He then disappointed at Aintree and Punchestown, before returning with a good victory over Psycho at Clonmel.

Kempes was a very impressive winner of the Irish Hennessy last year before disappointing greatly at both Cheltenham and Punchestown. After he won the Hennessy I thought he was a serious Gold Cup contender but he hasn't been right since. I thought he'd win on his comeback over hurdles, and he was well backed into favoritism, but he finished tamely behind New Phase and Psycho. He'll need to have come on for that run.

Cooldine hasn't won since winning a weak RSA and has run some deplorable races since. Not far off Joncol at his best but until we see signs of the old ability I wouldn't back him with stolen money.

Roi Du Mee has run two very good races this season but he was a fair bit off the better novices and he shouldn't be good enough to take this.

Trafford Lad used to be a highly talented novice a few years ago before suffering injury. Looks up against it here.

A test of stamina could be against Tranquil Sea, and play to the strengths of Joncol. I'd say Paul Carberry will be sending him for home early enough to try take the sting out of the others. Kempes will be the one to beat if rediscovering his Hennessy-winning form, but whether that happens is anyone's guess. Rubi Light also has leading claims. I reckon this is Joncol's best chance of a Grade 1 this year, as going right handed seems to suit him better than left, and as a result I'd say the Nolan's will have him spot on. Thus he is a tentative selection.
Report neill d December 11, 2011 3:04 AM GMT
Good right up slabster, gas to think we are still talkin In Conpliance, Joncol and the Durkan in the same sentence. I've come down on the side of Rubi Light as well.

COME ON RUBI AND MAKE OUR STAYING CHASES WORTH WATCHING AGAIN, LEXXXUS SANS DENMAN IS GARBAGE IN THE CONEXT OF WHAT A LEOPARDSTOWN GRADE 1 SHOULD BE

McCain or Pipe could step up Peddlars Cross or Grand Crus TOMORROW and kill all of these...... sorry donkeys

sorry connections, but it is the truth, why aren't we producing?
Report applehunter December 11, 2011 4:22 AM GMT
Rubi Light is the most exciting horse in the race for sure.

We still have not seen the best of him.

Others look exposed or at a crossroads.

Tranquil Sea seems to struggle at this level and at what 10 years of age he is not getting any better.

Joncol is the other most likely winner on ground he will love. For me though he still has a lot of question marks against his name.
Report Allduckornodinner December 11, 2011 9:37 AM GMT
I could get my commuppance  for placing faith in a Robbie Hennessey horse but Rubi Light looks an absolute gift to me at 9/4. If he runs to form he'll make bits of the carthorse and looks a superior horse to Tranquil Sea too. Kempes has a chance on his Hennessy win but think it was a bit flukey. Be suprised and disappointed if anything else got involved as Cooldine looked a gone horse in Thurles when he had everything his own way.

For those who say hes a plough horse or cart horse id say his Lexus 09 run surely disputes that.
Report Santry December 11, 2011 11:16 AM GMT
Everything seems to be in Rubi Lights favour but just cannot bring myself to place my faith and money in a Robbie Hennessey horse. Joncol if back to the form of 2 sesons ago may run the finish out of them.
Report silvergreaser December 11, 2011 12:41 PM GMT
With all the runners bar Trafford Lad holding an entry in forthcoming Lexus at Leopardstown makes this a race to thread carefully with.

As I mentioned before last years winner Tranquil Sea does look the most trustworthy horse in the field by that I mean he's almost certainly been aimed at this race, you can only guess at the intentions of the connections of the others, freshened up from a recent victory TS will do for a small wager.

The Mullins horses were the two who looked like they were only out for a spin round, will keep an eye on them for the future, maybe Cooldine for the Hennessey?.
