LOVETHEHIGHERLAW died on the gallops on Saturday morning.

Gigginstown House Stud's five-year-old won a point-to-point and two bumpers, includingat Grade 1 level at Punchestown in May under Patrick Mullins.

His father Willie, who trained Lovethehigherlaw, admitted that the loss was a heavy one.
"Obviously it was early days with him but he had done nothing other than to suggest he had a really good future over hurdles and fences."
He was bought for €115,000 out of Pat Doyle's yard last year.

irish_guy_13,
Not worth insuring ???

Report irish_guy_13 November 14, 2011 1:31 AM GMT
yes of course, but to insure would cost 10 % of value per year per horse. maybe they take the view of not insuring any and take/hoping of loses off less than 10% per year???

coolmore don't even insure their stallions, the depth of the roster allows them to bear it.
Report rubyisgodinthesaddle November 14, 2011 10:31 PM GMT
no need to insure NH horses...Stallions a different matter i would almost certainly imagine.

I heard they don't Ruby, it would eat into the profits hugely and where would one draw the line, I gather one of the reasons STS didn't stay in training would have been the cost of having to insure him, it is not the done thing, except in the case of a one off, a STS or a Frankel.

Remember when George Washington was found infertile, the sent Holy Roman Emperor to stud, there was no insurance issue.

What I mean by drawing the line is that you'd end up insuring horses against diminishing their value by losing races, I've heard it just falls where it falls and the operation as a whole absorbs the hit. A stallion is made as much by his mares any way and one lads loss is usually anothers oppertunity, most stallions fail commercially anyway which is another reason why they are not worth insuring, most get one good year and that is it. First season sires are the fashion.
