Hello Forumites,

We have a real treat in store for the next meeting of the Dublin Racing Club.

The Senior National Hunt handicapper, Noel O'Brien, will be giving a talk on all things handicapping related including his views on the established hero's and rising stars of Irish and UK racing. Noel is widely regarded as one of the most (if not the most) knowledgeable men in Ireland when it comes to NH racing form. Johnny Ward (Irish Racing Post), one of Ireland's top tipsters, will also feature in what promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable night.

The meeting will take place at 7.30pm in the downstairs bar of Peadar Kearney's pub, Dame Street on November 24th. PK's is located a few doors from the Olympia, on the Central Bank side of the street.

For those of you who missed the last meeting; the idea of the club is to have fun, meet like minded racing people, and learn something along the way. Membership is free and all are welcome.

The full agenda on the night is:

7.30pm (sharp!) - Discussion and Q&A with Noel O'Brien, Senior Handicapper, Turf Club
(please feel free to send any questions for Noel in advance of the meeting by email)

8.15pm Panel discussion
Focus on the weekend's big racing including the Hennessy at Newbury and the Fighting Fifth. We will also discuss upcoming Irish racing at Fairyhouse, the Tingle Creek, up and coming jockeys (e.g. Maurice Linehan) and the latest on the whip debacle. The panel will feature:

- Noel O'Brien, Senior Handicapper, Turf Club
- Johnny Ward, Irish Racing Post and the Weekender
- (final guest tbc)

We will have some spot prizes to be won and there will be free finger food on the night. I'm also assured there will be some cheap drink for those of you that way inclined!

We'll look forward to seeing you there and please let us know if you have any questions, suggestions or ideas. Alternatively you can contact dublinracingclub@gmail.com

All the best,

Gobbie

I think it is a great idea and think that you have two interesting guests but why do ye hold the meetings on a Thursday as that is the one week day you are guaranteed racing in Ireland.I accept that your club is not for me but some Dubliners will be at Thurles races and that kind of deals them out but the best of luck,ye deserve it for all your hard work.

Wildman - I take your point but the club is for fans of all levels of interest. Weekends were out and we felt Tue/Wed might rule out a lot of the Saturday punters who also like their soccer. It was just a judgement call based on what night we thought we'd get the biggest crowd. People are more amiable to heading out on a Thursday too.

Also, winter racing ends at 4 so people should be able to make the two. If we get a lot of negative feedback from racegoers we will definitely consider changing the night.

Hi Gobbie,
Could you drop me a quick mail at prospero_21@hotmail.com? Just want to ask you something about the club.
Cheers.

I'm delighted to confirm the third panelist will be Mandy Lucas. Mandy is a horse racing odds compiler with Lads and is extremely knowledgeable on UK and Irish form.

I'm also delighted to confirm we will have some prizes on the night including tickets for Leopardstown's xmas meeting. Not sure how we will allocate them yet. Suggestions welcome.

This is shaping up to be a terrific night so hopefully we'll see a lot of you there.

p.s. Prosp - I sent you a mail earlier.

Could you try that again Gobbie as didn't seem to go through?
Maybe send it to irishracingtrends@gmail.com as the prospero_21@hotmail.com may not be working.
Just have a quick question about your club. Thanks.

A good idea. I must turn up. I know all three panelists well.

Gobbie when I am on the bike heading up to Camden St from Trinity I turn up Georges St just after the William Hill shop on Dame St. I have never seen that pub. It must be just beyond that junction on the right hand side at a guess

soapp - glad to here you'll be there.

Yes, that's exactly where it is. It's only about two years old. Good racing pub in fairness to them. Even when they have live music at night they will have a telly on ATR on silent with Dundalk or US racing or whatever.

Great idea, and glad its going ahead again.  Sadly Im in Galway, but wish ye all the best with it.  Maybe I could make it up there for a chelt preview night.  GL anyway.

Unfortunately Mandy cannot make this Thursday but Barry Orr, PR and horse racing manager at Betfair, has stepped into the breach.

Looking forward to a great night. Hope to see ye all there.

I passed the pub last Thursday evening. A noisy joint it is.
Get there before 7 bells and all pints are €3 50 UP to that time.

A pity about Mandy as it is some time since I seen her. Sure I see Barry at every meeting.
