Gonna need a minor miracle to get the middles up at this stage. Aussies starting to get to grips a bit more by the looks of it

66pts after 2 quarters!! Any chance the ref will only play 3 quarters by mistake??

By:
backed ireland to win at half time and score the first goal.Debating if its the time to reinvest some profits on Aussies on the cap.
By:
with hindight the bookies were setting their points total on an average of past games. But many of those games were played in terrible conditions. Conditions today could not be more ideal for scoring.
By:
B356 were going +/- 23.5pts there on the handicap. PP +/- 30.5pts.
We have another middle going......... B356 26.5 now |
By:
Yeah I did think of the conditions when looking at total points, tbh assumed the bookies (esp PP) would have considered it as well.
WD so far paddletoe, think Aussies were definitely a play on the 23.5 h'cap. |

IS GALVIN HALF ELF? ONE STRAIGHT EAR ONE ELF LIKE ONE
By:
Sorry Ireland -23.5. Too early!!
By:
30.5 looks very big. Just a question if aussies can score better with the liklihood of more possession this half.
By:
PP cut to 27.5 now
By:
gonna wait to back the caps during this quarter. always better to back in game time in these markets.
By:
could not hold off any longer. backed aussies plus 32

By:
Is this time added on?? Clock still running....good for unders??

Betting aside, hope he is ok. Looked nasty

Switched my aussie cap bet for small loss.Got one point in the middlers for the scoop. Just cant see them scoring enough even with dominant possession.
By:
My h'cap middler now 23.5 32, with 30 being jackpot.
Total points middler 110.5 117.5 There is still a pointe middler there, 110.5 115.5 |
By:
31 pt win for ireland is a scoop for me. middling bet by accident. Just wanted to get close my aussie bet and ended up with a small loss and a one point middle.
By:
You were right to close out. Looks like no joy for me today.
WD RF if you lumped on Ireland |
By:
Oi, Oi, 116 pts!! Boom!! Made all the effort worth while

Surely the Aussies have better players than these . Very few of them strike me as footballers .
Or maybe we just have our best selection out there . Apart from a bit of messing at the back we were way better and in complete control . |
By:
Aussie's badly missing the really good full forward from the last few series. He was always their go to man.
Just could not see where the scores were coming from this aussie team. |
By:
Good stuff Kido. You got there in the end.
By:
Got some sheckels down, i have to say it's a bit of a joke as sport goes lol.
By:
Cheers paddletoe.
Think will wait until inplay next week, very open game and so possible points variance is too high. |
By:
jesus got that very wrong, I'll look closer in future before expressing an oppinion, well done our lads, Aussies so bad it seems it might put the future of the thing in jeopardy, I'd love to see a few of our boys kick the oval ball, maybe alternate years, might add a bit of spice.

Tadhg Kennelly had some game...he is a gifted talent and has some engine on him. If Kerry get him back again they will take stopping...FACT
By:
The 3 big Kerry lads , Kennelly , Donaghy and Walsh were all excellent . If they had all been playing this year for Kerry I am afraid the Dubs would not have a medal in their pockets .
Not sure if the Aussies were up for it , no **** at all in their play . |
By:
Must be a restricted word , ji** , as in jazz . ????
By:
Tadhg embarressed his jersey with his tackle in the first minute of the all ireland a couple of years ago. Premeditated. A real tramp.
By:
Donaghy was playing for Kerry this year. How could kenneley and Walsh have played for Kerry when they play a different sport. Meaningless statement. Might as well say Cork would be a better team if Roy Keane played gaelic instead of soccer.
By:
Agree whiteflag . Guess where he learned that ? Well known tactic down under .
By:
Thought you had ameliorated , Paddletoe . But obviously not .
By:
Kelly you have a bias towards Kerry. Saying they would have won this years all ireland if they had two players who dont even play gaelic football. I am sure Dublin would also have a better team if Brian O' Driscoll and some of the Leinster rugby lads had taken up gaelic fottball.
One thing saying a team missed an injured player but how can you even mention players who play a different sport. |
By:
Paddletoe, I presume you know the history of Kennelly and Walsh . Both already have All Ireland medals in Kerry shirts . A 20 hour plane trip and agreement from their team mates is all they ever will need to pull on the jersey again if they are fit and willing . Pretty obvious that to most sensible people . Mentioning Keano and BOD is fatuous .
Next to my own county I would be a Kerry supporter , because in my lifetime they have consistently played the best football of any county in Ireland , and I always praise and buy quality . Plus I have holidayed in Kerry every year since 1970 when I discovered it first . Lots of friend and contacts ( including GAA circles ) there . Nothing against the Dubs winning this year , glad to see them getting reward for a lot of effort recently . Good team , but just an observation that Walsh and Kennelly would have put Kerry in the winners enclosure this year , ensuring a degree of all time status -- getting them near Jacko and co . |
By:
i think those two players are more than a plane trip away from being able to play for Kerry. You say they would only need agreement from their team mates, suggesting they could just waltz over for any big game. I assume you think they would not be coming over to sit on a bench so would figure to start. Your very naive if you think their team mates would be agreeable to this and have two players who trained and played all year drop to the subs bench. You seem to think this would not only be possible but likely.

By:
Paddletoe , you are expert at trying to misconstrue fairly simple ideas and put words into peoples mouths . In simple terms , if either or both wanted to play for Kerry at whatever stage they could , there is no rule says they cannot . It is only a question of acceptability by team mates and management that would bring about such a scenario .
I know one lady who flies back and forward to Australia( first class , but she does represent a large pharmaceutical company ) at least once a month , so its not an unknown activity . Its no longer a 3 week boat journey as faced by the cricketing Aussies in the forties sailing out of Freemantle to Southampton . Depends on budgets of course . Only need to travel once though unless seasons overlap . Where there is a will there is a way . When I was involved with county football , one year the uni students opted out of National league , by agreement . However without them the team struggled and faced relegation . The players concerned were asked ( by the manager ) to recommence playing , but they were shrewder than the manager ( they always were ) , they insisted on a 100% (visible) vote from their team mates to return , which was agreed , they returned and they won all their remaining matches . Players aint stupid . And a medal gained from sitting as a sub is better than a runners up medal . Plus people get injured . Its not going to happen them returning , too much going for them away from these shores . Talking to a GAA contact locally last night , two of our traditionally strong clubs have EACH got 6 players away in Australia , either working or looking for work , they have had to amalgamate with a neighbouring club to field teams in certain categories . In one GAA team in USA the vast percentage of the players in one team I have heard about there come from the same village/ townland in Kerry . Donegal is probably the hardest hit by emigration , must be fantastic work going on there to field seriously competitive senior team ( even if we dont enjoy their style of football ). More power to those keeping the ship afloat , but it must be hard work . |

With respect Kelly i enjoy reading your thoughts but its always good to have different points of view to give balance.
With respect to your original post i thought it very unfair that you stated Dublin won this years all ireland because Kerry were missing two players who both chose to go to australia and neither of them had played many games for Kerry previously. The idea that these two players would possibly swan back and forward for individual mataches and play both sports is not going to happen. Yes, all it would take would be acceptance by the kerry players but it would be too disruptive to team morale for it to be even considered. Kennely was welcomed and right so because he committed to Kerry for a full season. His circumstances are also different to Walsh. Tyrone welcomed back Stephen O'Neill for the final but the circumstances there were completely different. I think it would also be completely differnt if Down got to an all ireland semi final in the next few years and it was possible for Marty Clarke to return for a month. I have no doubt the players would initiate contact and try to encourage him back. Counties who dont get to semi finals and finals too often would be more inclined to welcome back players if that player was likely to have a big impact on their winning chances. |

Paddletoe , my post just expressed "doubts" about how Dublin would have fared against a Kerry line up which included Walsh and Kennelly . I have no doubt that the betting would have been 1.4 instead of 1.7 Kerry before the match as both of these players have performed very well any time they wore the green and gold . Both from families steeped in skill and tradition , football wise . Odds dont always turn into facts , we all know that . As Damon Runyon said "the race is not always to the swift and brave , but thats the way to bet ".
Not going to happen I suspect given some of the hard economic facts which confront all the people on this island . The O'Neill saga I believe was a one off , but I am not as conversant with the "personalities " involved as you are , although I do have grapevine reportage occasionally , but not interested enough to tune in normally . One person I know manages a high profile team in Tyrone , and he does not charge them he tells me . No reason to doubt him , but the guy(s) managing most of the teams nowadays are generally not just in it for the love of the game . My club has had several fairly high profile managers in last 25 years or so since I managed them way back in the eighties ( never got or sought a penny ) , gone from Division 1 to Division 3 despite being probably one of the biggest ( in membership anyway ) in Ulster . Size isn't everything albeit in the eighties we had 5 players who between them have 10 All-Ireland senior medals to their credit . The coaching then such as it was though was essentially one on one , personal development it might be termed , but the schools and the universities were doing a brilliant job , we just polished any diamonds . And picked the rest of the team , and listened to the players . They were far better players than we were managers , might always have been thus with a few notable exceptions . |

Round 2 tomorrow morning.
All the talk seems to be of the series dying a death. I read that there might only be 10,000 at tomorrow's match. Bookies seem to expect it to be a tighter affair this time around. Powers have the line set at +/-16.5pts. Also historically the 2nd Test has been higher scoring, and yet despite 116pts in the 1st Test, the line this week is +/-98.5pts. Weather looks good, so not sure why the points expectation is so much lower. Is it conceivable that Ireland take the foot off the gas?? |
