They would be the main ones. There may be some others chains such as Crown in Belfast but the top 4 would be the main ones as far as I know.

In Derry Ladbrokes (bought out W Duffy), McCleans (bought out B Duffy), 1 S Graham shop. Rarely use them, as they are full of Jonah's who tell you they're 50p ew trebles when your doing your bollo cks in.. I Prefer to do my nuts now online.

Sold out to Ladcrokes , freddiek , 135 million reportedly ( for 48 shops I think ). Saw him the day the news broke in his shop on the Ormeau Road ( not in his head office , but where it started to take off for him ) , big grin on his face , why not , more power to his elbow . Got out at the right time in my opinion . Limited the betting opportunities here subsequently , complete change of mood and opportunity , that shop , large as it is , is a bit like the Marie Celeste now any time I drop in .

I was not aware that PP had shops in Belfast or Northern Ireland. I had heard they had plans to open shops up there, but did not know that this had already started.
How many does the estate number?

Yes , Norn Iron , heard something along those lines . Makes it an even better deal probably , although you wouldn't tell your bank manager you were in property these days .
Temlett , think there were about 7 or 8 , not sure , they had 3 in the middle of Belfast and the rest were in West Belfast from memory . None in East or South Belfast as far as I knew , might have also been one in North Belfast out at Glengormley .
Betting in N I used to be the best in the whole of these islands in terms of guys who would take a position and lay your fancy . All gone , Grahams used to lay anything when Sean was alive ( except each way , he hated each way ) but I think its a bit different now . Ask B C .

Freddiek , think it was about 3 years ago or slightly less . Can find out if its relevant , one of my friends was fairly senior in that organisation but got retired when Ladcrokes took over .

There was pressure being brought on the politicos about 5 years ago to try for Sunday opening . Think it was being driven by the then local bookies , but most of them have sold out to the chains since and I suspect the issue is on a back burner .
Little demand for Sunday opening at the moment except maybe by the FOBT driven bookies who would like a 24 hour licence . Most of the shops are only busy ( relatively) on a Saturday for football coupons and good cards in racing . Nothing like it used to be , can remember queues OUTSIDE some shops back in the good old days on big race days .

Not quite. £117 milion for the shops plus the phone betting business. http://www.independent.ie/business/irish/thank-you-very-much-says-mr-eastwood-for-8364160m-deal-1284935.html Still, sounds like a good days business for Mr Eastwood!

Eric , its more like what planet does the buyer live on . My figure came from a widely reported media source , might have been some subsequent horse dealing re premises , leases , phone business , etc . Not far off the mark anyway . An offer you could not refuse if you go to mafia speak . Good luck to him , better the money operating loosely within the Irish economy than dealing with potentates from somewhere in the Arab set ups for instance .
