I don't think he is a great trainer tbh, but we've had this debate before, in the last 6 odd years I have been following the game, he has done nothing to suggest greatness, what he has mainly done is knock around rival with less resources at the gaff tracks. He has had one class horse since I've been following the game, Grey Swallow. I'd high hopes for Casual Conquest, but I don't know what has happened to him. He is something of an egotist imo.

I'd have far more admiration for someone like Prendegast, who hasn't a bean to spend on horses, and gets all the sheik's dregs, but has still produced as many Group 1 winners in recent years.

Neil D, D K Weld does well with the material he is dealt with.

He doesn't have the money behind him like others.

For Abdullah, Famous Name has payed his way to the max this year. Emulous can now shoot for the stars after her Group 1 in the Matron. Swerve today looked like one to follow next year.

For Lambe, basically his flat horses are dual purpose bred at best. Mind you he won an Ascot Gold Cup for him last year. Problems this year with the horse.

He aint got much for Hamdan but dross thrown at him. Yet he won a 1000 guineas for him a couple of years ago.

Vinnie Roe is a farly recent winner of numerous Irish leger's for him.

He's a good trainer, but I wouldn't agree with the Genius stuff thrown around tbh

he has won 2 melbourne cups, a belmont stakes,and a lot more international races, won all the classics,not the best trainer ever, but really high up in his field

I'm no flagwaver for Weld but his record at Galway is remarkable. Aidan tried to beat him in a 2yo maiden this year in what was probably the biggest betting heat of the week and his punters got a very bloody nose.

Galileo's choice capable of winning a Group 3 after a hurdle win at Galway: remarkable really!

Stunning View ran well in Hunt Cup and Galway was a decent consolation in a very competitive race. Say what you like, every second race report in the months before galway leaves you in little doubt that every trainer wants to win there (with a couple of exceptions)but it comes easy to Weld.

If you follow such things you would have to say that Weld and Smullen have been singing the praises of Emulous all season and, sometimes, when you can separate the sincere from the hype you can find the occasional nugget.

Fair play to him....he delivers year in year out.

His Curragh record is terrible though....its just shocking

Re gallileo's choice, how interesting is Pittoni now for this jumps season, I don't believe he can attain those results at Galway without some degree of 'manipulation', and I'd stand over those comments, even the Melbourne Cup itself lends itself to a large degree of plotting, now an obvious retort for weld fans is to say 'show me a horse he had that should have won a group 1', and I couldn't, but if e is buying the gees, I don't think he has the eye of aa Prendegast, a Hannon, or dare I say a Demi, surely plenty have thrown cash at him and said get me a champion, that's the pressure the Coolmore lads live with, i can't believe Weld hasn't had something of that chance to splash the cash, if so many believe he is so good, although I gather the Moyglare lads might have sold a few good ones, lovely people and all the top guys there are.

Hannon leaves the buying of the yearlings to the Doyles and Kevin P would work alongside Frank Barry.

Would himself really have no input, I knew the Doyles were involved, but thought he had something to do with it, I'd say KP was very involved.

I know Weld is very good, but fellas of my generation wouldn't hold him in the same esteem as some others imo, when I started following AOB was unstoppable, and throught it all, I still feel he is probably the best in terms of managing a string, oxx the best for a single real good one, Lyons for knowing what he has, that is the way I see it anyway. The first proper racing I saw as a real young fella was Gallileo and High Chapperal, the massive dissapointment of One Cool Cat, george washington and that, Azamour, I like good horses, i haven't seen Weld with one with that, hence my scepticism, Vinnie Roe would be my favourite of what he's had.

AOB for a time, was easy to read and a punters friend imo.

GW's Guineas, I was as green as green could be, and it was still abundently clear that despite his good form, it wasn't the thing to back Horatio Nelson. I't isn't the case any more, you wouldn't know what to make of their battalions.

However Weld at Galway, underplaying things, whats with that, he either doesn't know or he is lying, neither is very good, neither the act of a supposed 'genius', not saying anyone here is suggesting he is a genius, but the media do.

How can one get 20 odd winners in a week on Irish racecourses, come on? it speaks for itself in fairness, the authorities are afraid of him, not a question asked, if he ain't pulling em, (Duggan on ATR reckons he is reading between the , he may as well lines), he may as well start, he might get to 40. It's ridiculous imo.

Weld has had a real good one since that Mare for Moyglare but again i think she just barely won a Group 1 Profound Beauty.

Surprised Coolmore have never given him a horse from what i remember. John Magnier own's lots in partnership with Dermots Mother i think. M C L Weld isn't it?

DKW may have many claims to greatness but winning hatfuls of kissmiass races at Galway is hardly among them .

Weld at Leopardstown (because it is generally quicker there than most places)

O'Brien at the Curragh (because he aims his better horses here and any ease in the ground in spring and autumn suit his horses)

Flynn at Tramore (no explanation needed....Danny Grant is a magician around there)

Weld trained Fortune and Fame for the Doctor of Cardboard back in the early 90's-magnier owned two legs I think.

I'm certain he also trained a few flat horses for the Great One in the pre-ballydoyle era.

I was disappointed to see Moyglare take She's Our mark away from Pat Flynn when they bought her. I'm sure PJF was pleassd to see the Master Of Rosewell "fail" with her.....so far (probably in foal by now)
