Give 10% out of his own pocket so that we could put in an extra 1,100 seats into the showgrounds for the Europa league match. The match sold out in a few hours even though we had no idea who we were playing. Impressive stuff all and GAA diehards will not like you Mr Delaney for keeping Football numero Uno in Sligo. Laugh

Any man who gives up 3 days pay to help those less fortunate is a good one in my book.
Nice to see one of the top 3 teams in the country come up to uefa standard.

Come on Gant you're not bitter over this, i know you said we would never sell it out in a day but we did not you must eat your words.

By the way it is 3rd round Europa League Standard, you know lot of GAA clubs get grants from HQ? Why can't a football club get one?

Don't think there are too many GAA grounds tha twould met the High Standards UEFA require, well i know one that would't anyway Laugh

Rocketfingers......I didn't even know you lads were in a european comp let alone selling all your tickets in a day....most people probably wouldn't know..........no harm you lads getting grants at all isn't that why the International team brings in the sponsorship money........only fair to throw a few quid around.......I couldn't even get a ticket for the sell out 20000 in Navan tonight.......might just go over and sample the carnival atmosphere and watch it on the big screen set up in the square........no point having a fancy restaurant if the food is poor.

Hmmm funny that as you said it just a couple of posts above and over on the football betting forum LaughLaughLaughLaugh

Great to see GAA games so well attended, that game never really caught on in Sligo, lack of skill put a lot of people off i suppose.

I never said that you couldn't sell out a game in a day.......maybe have another look at the post.
Sligo as a county is a fair way down the pecking order when it comes to most things so I wouldn't get too excited.
But at least you have the highest paid player in the loi.

You're lucky Gant, Kildare are going to murder yeMischief, I'd say it will be quite painful for the Meath crowd, getting beat by a team with less natural talent than ye, but who work and train harder, and have better discipline.

Esp gaelic football Gant Laugh

You seem very bitter over this not sure why, you make me laugh you can be so dumb/ignorant Laugh

By the way sorry to hear you ain't going to the match tonight, gaelic games are not value for what's on show as entertainment, they're losing hardcore members like myself and yourself. Blush

I'd say ye will for 50 minutes or so, but this Meath team are underachievers imo, They need a 'McGeeney style' gym programme.Laugh Shane O'Rourke looks very good out in the midfield though, it will be a great to watch if he is matched up against Doyle.

Rocketfingers.....I know nothing about your under the radar sport.......only for this forum I would think it's off season like most of the other soccer leagues.

While weaseling up on the soccer forum you got your 3 pet rubs in at the GAA "BIGOTTED GAME" "RELIGION" and "DARKSIDE".....one trick pony my friend but we all know your form on here. A Dub in Sligo.

Doyle could be out........To be called an underachiever from someone in Limerick is a new low for Meath football.

In terms of the talent ye have I think ye are, ever since ye took that pasting down in Limerick a few years ago I have questioned their resolve. I think they have all the talent in the world, but want everything nice and easy.

I have great respect for good, hard working, Gaelic football teams. We had a very good one in Limerick for the guts of the last 10 years, they are on the way down now, but if they had been in Connaught or whisper it, Leinster, they would have won a provincial title. They trained hard and always left it all on the field, but they just didn't have the class to close it out against Cork and Kerry. Meath have let ordinary Dublin sides win 6 of the last 7 Leinsters, yet have still been good enough on their day to paste Dublin last year, and even beat Tyrone. This Meath team frustrates me.

Very strong Gant, I still like to think we are a level above Waterford, the midfield looks a bit suspect on our part, but the goalkeeper kicks well so hopefully we'll box smart around there. I'd be hoping McCarthy will hold the defence together. Ryan seems to have come back to himself, Collins is always good for a few as well up front. Kelly is a good man to carry ball as well and I'd say we will play the usual possession game, grind them down and pull away in the last 15 minutes to win by 4 or 5 points. We'll go no further. I'm gonna head out with the old student card, hopefully get in chape.Laugh

I don't mean to offend with the Meath thing either, I just have a lot of respect for that teams innate ability. I'd say ye are hard on yer own anyway without the like of me saying anything, but ye'd be right. The meath footballers should be held to exacting standards, like Kerry, Cork and Dublin. We are always cutting our teams slack in Limerick and it gets ya nowhere.Laugh

The Meath team get a hard time from their own believe me...........The only things we have in our favour are home advantage and Rocketfingers tipping Kildare.

Good luck with it, I was very sweet on Kildare early in the week, even put up a thread, but I'm a bit jittery now, might be easier 1/2 shots around. Last I'll say on it though because I'm a bit of a broken record, I can't make up my mind as to whether the Kildare backs (especially the full back line the last day) are just excellent, or if Laois are just completely light weight up front, I'm starting to suspect the latter and that Laois are basically very poor and Kildare were slightly flattered. The Meath forwards have a lot in them if they get the ball, but I'd consider the Kildare backs very good as well, that is the crucial area for me. PS, I don't think the closed space and oppressive marking is going to suit Cian Ward.

The a%se fell out of Laois.......Kildare got a soft penalty and a scrappy goal.........they scored their first point around the 20th minute......Meath were poor against Galway and comparing the 2 games Kildare looked better.

Meath were poor against Louth too. 8 pts is brutal against anybody.

8 points against Louth is poor but at least the 5 goals took the bare look off it.............
By:

Yeah I'd agree with all of that, 1/2 slash 4/9 against Laois was the value really with regard to Kildare

I was all over that last week and to be honest if I wasn't from Meath I would back Kildare tonight.........I feel a big one from Meath tonight.......lashing rain here.

I was on as well, they seem to get better as they go on in games, but if they start like they did against Laois, Meath might bang in a goal and then they are chasing and mightget out of their ground and have to commit more going forward, that is the only scenario I can see Meath winning really. i think i will go and take the 1/2 tbh.
