Okay, Limerick have been in league two and have done what is required to get themselves back to the top tier and that was the main objective this year. Limerick have been very much under the radar coming into this game and a lot of people fancy they could cause an upset. I would like to think this is possible being a Limerick man but i can't see it.

Why?

The full back line is an immediate worry for me.

Tom Condon is handy but nothing special, i believe he will go into fullback and Hickey will go out on Mullane, Condon is a tad agricultural and will make mistakes and give away plenty of frees.

The half line is okay but i think we would have been better suited putting Richie Mc in full back all season, this is his best position. You would then have a half back line of Hickey, Geary and Gavin O'M, that would be very solid. David Moloney should be in the corner as i think he is top drawer.

There will not be much in it between midfield but where we will struggle is the half forward line. James Ryan has enough energy to try and slow down the Brick but he is more of a destroyer, Niall Moran has never really done it and Richie Mac is not a forward. It would have been great if Declan Hannon was available for this, some prospect that lad.

The full forward is young and very lively and if Limerick are to have a chance they will have to get quality ball into the three, Graeme Mulcahy, Shane Downes (top class full forward in the making) and Sean Tobin who is light but talented.

I think Waterford will have too much for Limerick and will win by 6+, i would love if we could keep it tight till the end.

Kevin Downes even, was thinking of the next big thing to come through, Shane Dowling!

What do you make of Graeme Mulcahy Timeforchange?

Looking at prices yesterday and see he is 4/1 with Bet356 for anytime goalscorer. He is only 9/4 with Boils and 12/5 with Paddy.

The Deise full back line are all U21's and could be vunerable. They have however plenty of seasoned players on the bench (Jamie Nagle, The Prendergast brothers, Eoin Kelly, Eoin McGrath etc)and just like the Clare match last year, the subs may swing it for them.

Expect a big performance from the Limerick lads......have been told o'grady has them flying and he expects it to bee very close game.......

Kiddo, i would be more inclined to take the price on Kevin Downes. If Limerick get ball into him he goes for goals, he is lethal on his day.
Report kiddo112 June 12, 2011 1:28 PM BST
Cheers for that. Not really a market I like to get involved in, just thought there might be some value there given Bet356 looked to be out of line.

Hold Mullane and they'll beat the handicap at least, Waterford are average.

I hope im wrong but i think we'll get wallopped today - dont like Hickey back full back at all

I think he is much more effective out in the half back line and he'll be wasted today

That said i dont know much about any of the Waterford newcomers and maybe they're no great shakes.

Have had a few bob on Kevin Downes anytime goalscorer, been impressed with him when i've seen him

Would be interested if there was a sending off market anywhere too but i cant find one - think we'll see a red or 2 today

Waterford have a strong bench if needed...........
Report Timeforchange June 12, 2011 3:25 PM BST
BJG, Richie Mc is the best full back in the county and they have not put him in their. If the half back line was Hickey, Geary and G O'M i would be very happy. Look lets just see how it goes.

Great game considering the conditions Waterfords experience should see them home.
Report GANT007 June 12, 2011 5:40 PM BST

Anyone think limerick should have had a free for a chop near the sideline right at the death?, considering the GAA's liking for drawn championship games surprised the ref didn't award it?, then again it still had to be scored.
Maybe Davy Fitz effing and blinding made the ref bottle it?.

I'm gutted myself, great to see Limerick have a top class forward again in Downes, He wasn't even fully fit apparently. The future looks good.
Report benny_ROBS_roy June 12, 2011 5:47 PM BST
kelly going for a goal a poor decision. would have been at least 3 mins left including injury time there was plenty time.

only poor defending from limerick allowed mullane score 30 seconds later

Very proud of the performance from Limerick. Declan Hannon was a massive loss. We will be just fine. O'Grady has brought us back to a competitive level and that is all we wanted.
Report neill d June 12, 2011 5:51 PM BST
Yeah, Hannon to come back as well, any county would love to have them.

Totally agree the Ref stopped for a split second i thought he was going to give it,especially as the Gaa love their replays,i hope Limerick kick on they were outstanding in the second half.

Limerick hurling is back up where it belongs and will only improve.........a proud Hurling county.

Silvergreaser..........Maybe the ref was against JP and the Coolmore boys.
Report ko2 June 12, 2011 5:53 PM BST
great effort from limerick, unlucky to lose it hopefully they can do well in the qualifiers
Report Dan Chipowski June 12, 2011 5:58 PM BST
Good performance from Limerick, but how in the name of God they didn't win is beyond me.

Several shocking wides in the first half, more in the second and a few harsh calls against them from the ref. They also shipped some shocking scores from basic errors. Hickey made one terrible mistake for a point and was terrible for Shane Walsh's goal. The entire half back line were very good and hurled a lot of ball. Downes is a joy to watch and hopefully he'll get a few more outings over the summer.
Report silvergreaser June 12, 2011 6:07 PM BST
gant now come to think of it....?
Report scamboogah June 12, 2011 7:33 PM BST
Credit to Limerick for that effort but not mentioned is that Waterford have at least 4 players to come back that would have been starting today. Liam Lalor and Eoin Murphy in the full back line, Ritchie Foley in midfield and the promising Brian O'Halloran in attack. Limerick will benefit from a run in the qualifiers.
