Some of the high street bookies are taking a lot of flak on the general horse racing forum . Mainly about knock backs and closing of accounts ( winning ones , never heard of a losing account being closed for the good of the punter , have you ? ) .
I have had about 4 accounts closed , others restricted . " We have reviewed your betting patterns and our trading department have decided to terminate your account --but you can still play on our games and casino accounts " . All 4 closed as far as I can remember ( you cant access a closed account to check back ) were losing accounts as far as the bookies were concerned .
I now punt about 10% of what I used to , cant get money on at the right price except on Betfair or the purple one . I refuse to back a horse at what I consider below par / risk odds , but increasingly that value is hard to get ( for anything approaching decent money ) . The overnight markets etc on here are not worth the proverbial now , once upon a time they were , but now it seems everybody is waiting to jump on someone elses bandwagon .
Anyone back winners regularly and still get accomodated ?
There can't be any serious pinter who could (or would) claim to have never been closed down. A closed account is a badge of honour , a notch on your gambling gun , a feather in your punting cap ....

A pain in the butt , Vubiant , the closure of an account . Notches on guns etc of no interest , you are only as good as your last winner --paraphrasing Oliver Reed . I understand Tony McCoy absolutely , he lives for winners , does not matter where they are or how much they win , a win is a win . Pipey was the same . Too many others chasing rainbows !

I've never had an account closed by any bookie (I've 10+ accounts) but I'm not a serious punter (don't have the temperament for it TBH)
I am a recreational punter (max €20 each-way but mostly fivers and/or tenners) but am showing a profit of just under €1,700 cumulative since Oct-2007 (no records pre then)

I 've had 9 accounts closed ...for no big winnings at all . For a while in the older days I took to splitting my stakes -haring around to maybe three or four shops . Crazy stuff ...although it kept me fit.
2 quick examples ..I once figured out a form-based winner at 10/1 in a bumper at Sligo or somewhere around 1977 and had 20 e/w. I remember the name - Lovely Lough Erne. The bookie was convinced I had some stable contact and closed my account on the spot!
In the late 90s I won a largish sum from Pa D Powerz on a jackpot in England -I remember the last leg was Anita At Dawn @ 20/1. I had done a number of perms at 10p a line. Shortly after the minimum unit stake was set at 50p and that was game over .
For a while I thought of mounting a legal challenge to some bookies' licences on the basis of restrictions of trade and having no notice set out as to what bets could or could not be accepted . For instance they proudly announced maximum payouts -100.000 or more ...but forgot to say they would never give you a chance of winning a fraction of that . I thought I had a good case but decided life is too short and I gradually got totally disillusioned with the whole cruddy scene . Nowadays I just punt small for entertainment.

im 4 years in business and never had to close an account, a few came close but i weathered the storm and ''got em'' long term... i dont understand why the bigger firms dont do this..what with computerised accounts they can tell in an instant..

I would be considered a big punter by the standards of most. I've never had an account closed, but the vast majority get limited to stakes that are no good to me. I'm not marking anyones card to just get €100 on.

I'm honestly a horse racing mug so no problem with horses if I bet big they would probably bend over to accommodate.
Restricted on a couple of sports though, can't get a cent on rugby league with a couple of accounts.
Others would have it much worse most restrictions are regarding horses.

Just reminded me Squiggs , one of the accounts that was closed on me arose because I backed Fred Funk in running for the one event he ever won in recent memory . Imagine him being the reason for closing an account , although I suppose flukes count too .
That was a local bookie , was not counting them in my 4 . Come to think of it 2 of the 4 national bookies took a couple of biggish hits from me on the golf rather than on the horses specifically . But cant remember backing a decent winner at the golf now for 2 years or more . Come back Tiger !

I like to bet on rugby mainly, I find it very hard to get a decent bet on these days though. They used to close me out but these days they mostly just cut down your limits so low that its not worth your while

Im barred from a bookies after giving the patrons of my local bar 2 winning tips in Galway a couple of years ago. SPs - Rasberry Beret 11/2 and Almighty Jade 8/1. One lad collected €3375 from a €50 double. Bookie told me he was down money on the day because of me. I use my mug punter friend to place my big sports bets with him now.[;)]

I'm expecting the english tote wont take my bets soon. I had a marginally profitable account closed by fred. The biggest culprit imo ..only wants mugs.
