The Meath County Board has confirmed that two selectors - Liam Harnan and Barry O'Callaghan - have cut their ties with the senior football panel.
The Board said in a statement to RTÉ's The Sunday Game that Harnan and Callaghan had quit for 'personal reasons' and that the Board will meet later this week to discuss the situation.
The surprise resignations have inevitably been linked with the return of Graham Geraghty to the panel, news of which became public on Friday evening.
Geraghty played for 15 minutes in a two-point challenge match win over Galway that took place at a Connacht venue on Sunday.
Meath also played a challenge game on Friday, beating Westmeath in a match for which the now departed Harnan took charge of the panel.
'Banty' and McGeeney meet again on 5 June
Kieran McGeeney and Seamus McEnaney at the Meath v Kildare League clash earlier this yearThe news is poorly timed for Meath manager Seamus 'Banty' McEnaney, with the Royal County due to get their Championship summer underway against Kildare on in twoo weeks' time.
The former Monaghan boss received strong backing from Harnan ahead of his appointment last October and the two-time All-Ireland winning centre-back has been part of the 'Banty' coaching ticket since then.
Commenting on the news, The Sunday Game analyst Kevin McStay said: 'I think there is some link with the Graham Geraghty return to the panel and also, my understanding is that Banty (McEnaney) didn't get to too many Championship matches in Meath.'
If McEnaney is not supported at this week's Board meeting, McStay added, 'his position could become untenable by Thursday.'
Seems quite perplexing that he would bring him back to the panel - never mind bring him back without telling his selectors [smiley:crazy]
What age is Geraghty now?? Must be touchin 40 Seems quite perplexing that he would bring him back to the panel - never mind bring him back without telling his selectors
Just gone 38 BJG according to his wilki page, have a look at it he's done some interesting stuff apart from Football. I never knew he ran for Fine Gael ! I like the bit about the acting :D
To be fair what are they at trying achieve by bringing him back?

I'd have fancied Kildare to steamroll them regardless, Meath have class, but if the camp is in disarray, that would suggest to me that they will be leggy/unfit/not tuned up, and that won't do here. Kildare are the fittest team in the country

The bigger issue is the falling-out between both manager and selector. Harnan was only really on the Banty ticket to sweeten the Meath support about outside management - the potential for conflict was high given both sets of personalities. The issue for Meath is where to go from here and how to do learn from this.
Let us not forget that Banty is a very sweet-talking, charming individual. He is a very successful entrepreneur too, and all this time, while the media are talking about him, he gets some nice advertising. He recently came into ownership of the Old Darnely Lodge in Athboy, a pub / restaurant formely run by none other than Mr. Geraghty, who unlike Banty, is experiencing a lot of financial trouble. I'm not sure how relevant all this is but I did hear that money changed hands to make Geraghty come back, how true that is I have no idea, and what purpose bringing a 38 year old failed Fine Gael politician, former Buccaners and Arsenal trialist, and all-round darling of Meath GAA, back into the panel is anybody's guess.
Geraghty has supposedly being playing well for his club, Clann na Gael, although I don't go too many intermediate matches so can't say myself how well he's been playing.
Meath have gone backways under McEnaney, whearas Kildare have probably stayed still since last year's Quarter Final. That would suggest a win for the Lillies, although as I always a Meath team written off is a Meath team to be feared.

One thing that would give me hope is how out of form the Kildare forwards seem. Last year, they completely overwhelmed the Meath backs in Croke Park. James Kavanagh was magical that day. Johnny Doyle kicked eight points.
Looking at the League though, only Antrim scored less than Kildare in the top two Divisions, and they've carried that form through to the Championship judging by yesterday. Kavanagh was only a sub and Doyle was centre-field.

Yes the whole situation is a total shambles in the county. Liam Harnan and Barry Callaghan who was abroad reportedly had no say in the call-up of Graham Geraghty and this is why they have left the scene. You will find more to rise later on. As a proud Meath man I was always against the election of Banty to the helm, no disrespect to the man but what has he ever won? An Allianz league title with his own county? Never managed any senior clubs before! Hes a good talker and a shrewed business man but not up to Inter-county management. Joe Brolly made a good point on the SG Sunday night - Only one or maybe two counties ever won a Senior Football All Ireland managed by a man from outside the county, that is a fair point. Meath are a proud shower with plenty of history and All Ireland medals, its a crying shame but then again who wants to manage the county with the state Meath football is in. The county board are clueless and should be ousted out by the clubs. Its back to square one. I can see a demolishment in order on the 5th June from the flourbags.

Not sure where you heard that Banty was not in financial trouble. He is in huge trouble and if you look back through Irish Times articles you should find the significant judgement against him.

Viva Pataca you are wrong about Graham Geraghty formely running the Old Darnley Lodge Hotel..but he did previously run 2 Pubs in Athboy town close to the hotel.
