Surely a man and politician of the highest integrity in a business where the trait is in short supply. Surprised to hear of his passing as he appeared to be in reasonably good health when appearing on screen recently.
A decent man , too much so in a business full of chancers .
History will view him kinder than some of his "political" contemporaries did .
And he did his best to repay debts associated with investments by selling his largest asset , viz house . Unlike some others .
Not sure those in the South appreciated how well he was viewed by the outside world . Hopefully this week and mature recollection about his life will help bury the old civil war thing completely for once and for all . Time to move on further although the gallop is harder to sustain in these days of fiscal rectitude for governments ( everywhere , not just Ireland ) .
