I think we can keep this at home this year, what with Dunboyne Express and Ballydoyle as our main defence...not keen on Hannon's horse as something had to be second in that strange Newmarkt guineas....Hannons could well be a false fav and I just think AP will win with Roderik O C....and with this year's market trends  a Coolmore plunge will tell if  he's the one...........what's your take on it....

I couldn't back Roderic without market confidence either!  But with it, you'd have to play IMO.  Interesting that it looks like they're running the 2 pacemakers suggesting they've some confidence.  Just worried that there's a paucity of milers this year at Ballydoyle...

Otherwise, i'd respect Dunboyne Express over the Hannon horse.

In other words; what you said!

If JP O Brien is on Rod O C I wouldn't take this as a big negative opposite in fact...murtagh knew this was coming...a big chance for AP's son to ride a Curragh Classic winner..not a lot to beat..small field..only a couple with winning chance...Roderic's form is very strong in comparison to the opposition with a strong chance on form to beat Dunboyne,
10th June 2010 Leop 3rd 5l to Dunboyne and Master of Hounds who were in a photo...26th June trounced Master of H up the Curragh so on form can beat Dunboyne...remember JP will have Sat Nav plus road maps and a laptop on his wristLaugh to follow his dad's instructions...and in my view he JP has improved huge amount..witness his front winning ride at Cork recently...

Agree with JaytrumpOldTomDubbl about the booking of Joseph OBrien being a positive. What father wouldnt want to get a classic winner for his son especially as time is running out for him,he now regularly puts up overweight.
However it is a long time since i saw a horse beaten as far as Roderic OConnor was at Newmarket would be some training feat if Aiden could get this beast to improve enough to win the Irish equivalent.
Were the incredible to happen and Roderic OConnor were to win and perhaps carry overweight a good question for your local would be who was the last jockey to ride a classic winner carrying overweight.

The great dual purpose jockey Aubrey Brabazon.
Report JayTrumpOldTomDubbl May 20, 2011 2:28 PM BST
Wildman is no doubt the jimmy magee of the forum...Yes it may require a leap of faith to see Ro'C win sat but you must ignore his poor run and also be aware that AP has used Newmarket's 2000gns to condition horses for later assignments in the past...so in my view you will see a different horse on Saturday..
Report silvergreaser May 20, 2011 4:44 PM BST
Well all I can say if this horse can turn around over 30L with Dubawi Gold regardless of how the guineas at Newmarket was run would suggests to me that this horse was sent to Newmarket in a comatose state?.

I know this crowd have a history of even using group 1's as a fitness school, but if Roderic wins and wins well?, it would leave an even bigger stench than the smell that already permeates from this rank stable.

There would have been less of a smell if they allowed the proposed landfill site to be built near Coolmore Towers, in fact the smoke from the dump might have helped cover up the already existing stench!.
Report neill d May 20, 2011 5:12 PM BST
Horrible race really, if Roderic is at his best he will probably win, although KP seems to think we have yet to see the best of Dunboyne Express.

I get the impression it is a poor crop of milers this season bar the beast.

Silver, if his eyes aren't rolling around his head in the parade ring, its time to step in.

As stated earlier it would make a great photo on the wall if young Joseph won the Classic. I would be delighted for all concerned.
They are miles ahead of the rest of the trainers here.
He ought to do 9 00. I think he has done 9 1 just the once.

Think I'll side with Dunboyne Express. Has a prep run in the Gunieas trial and while not hugely impressive in that win he was said to have needed the race badly. has already beaten Dubawi Gold and ROC in his two year old days and I'd expect him to uphold that form tomorrow.

I just have this doubt that if the race was run without Frankel and the field wasn't spreadeagled after 4/5 furlongs then I don't think Dubawi Gold would have won the 2000 Guineas. Doesn't seem to be huge confidence behind ROC at the moment but with them you never know really. His last run was shocking but I'd be inclined to write it off. I still would not back him mind. Zabarajad has a lot to find as a maiden but has a good run behind Imperial Rome (who ran well enough in the French 2000) on his last trip to the Curragh. Hes short enough but I think thats more a reflection on the strength of the race rather than anything else. Weakest Irish 2000 in a good few years.
Report JayTrumpOldTomDubbl May 20, 2011 9:36 PM BST
Dunboyne Express beat Master of Hounds in a photo with Ro'C 3rd 5l back...next time out Ro'C ran away from Master up the Curragh so where does that leave the form with Dunboyne?...see a different Ro'C 2moro and thats 4sure....Curragh made for him

i'm hoping to have a good look at them before phoning in my bet ...   one i do like the look of is hitchens in the sprint...this 6yo looks to be ready to hit peak form having run so well lto...our sprinters just dont seem to be good enough....sing softly is a nice filly heading in the right direction..i just feel that 3yos are at a sight disavantage at this time of the year ..tiddli winks seems to be a bit of an all weather specialist imo.. so i am taken hitchens to give d barron and fran berry a win..

Interesting that Coolmore are evidently happy to let young Joseph ride their no 1 hope in an Irish Classic. This suggests to me that they are quite keen to keep APOB 'sweet' knowing that this will be Joseph's last year trying to win a classic and it probably will not make the difference between winning and losing . But talk of David Wachman being lined up as a successor looks well wide of the mark in this context - they evidently are very keen to hold onto Aidan

Roderic O'Connor travelled like a good horse for 4 furlongs in the Guineas no way was he tuned up for that race
This must be his target
Report JayTrumpOldTomDubbl May 21, 2011 10:37 AM BST
Kingdom...thats exactly my point, and we can be sure that before Ro'C went on his trip to Newmarket one man knew what his main early season target was,and knew as well who would be on board...this is his day, carefully planned and his target mapped out by a strategist of some renown.....the one and only APo'B..[;)]

Not the greatest 2000 guineas we've ever seen to be fair. I'm gonna go against the known form and take a chance with Zabarajad. The fact he's a maiden will put a lot of people off be he should've won last time and has a lot of scope for improvement compared to some of the others.
Report SatelliteFlight May 21, 2011 1:51 PM BST
I suppose somebody should tip up Dubawi Gold then. If Hughesy can get him settled early at the back and there is a decent pace he surely upholds the form with those that ran at Newmarket. Dunboyne Express would be the one that worries me but he won a nothing race last time which told us nowt imo. He finished in front of the selection in the Racing Post Trophy but Dubawi Gold is ridden differently now which suits better.
Report dinglemick May 21, 2011 2:05 PM BST
I ll back you up there Sat Flight .....Think people are getting carried away with the way the english guineas was run and not giving Dubawi Gold credit ..... Big thing with him for me has been the change of stable this season ....going from Michael Dods to Richard Hannon ..... He was heavily punted on his first run for the yard in a listed race at Lingfield ( 4s to 7/4 ) when held up off the pace coming through to win ....Followed up again at Lingfield  before his Guineas run .... Like you say if Hughes can settle him early can see him coming through at the end ... worrying though that he s heading for 11/4 in the betting having opened 6/4 earlier in the week .....

I was just watching the replay back there of post race interviews,Joeseph was twice asked if it was the plan to make it,but cutely(for a 17yo)avoided directly answering the question.Although it did look as if the potential pacemakers were struggling to get there early,it was probably a plan that was drawing up at the high table at ballydoyle-it was easy to envisage an over-confident richard hughes using exaggerated waiting tactics, get an easy lead, and then a couple of blockers for the horse coming through, seamie performed a beautiful bit of riding 2 1/2 furlongs out, keeping richard hughes in.A well thought out plan by coolmore imo but one would have to say it was a predictable and extremely naive performance from a jockey of richard hughes experience.
