Aidan O'Brien media ban

Won't do him any favours in the long run IMO

How are we going to know that:

a. they all work well at home,
b. he thinks a lot of them, and
c. they all have the speed to win a July Cup AND the stamina to win an Ascot Gold Cup?

Just because he churns out those stock phrases it's still unfair for the media to ban him db.

Article is a bit insulting calling Seamus Heffernan a "No-name" and dismissing him as someone who has "ridden trackwork for O'Brien for some time"

I presumed it is a self-imposed ban, ie from O'Brien himself

THE PHOENIX is a great read, well  worth the 2.65. well worth getting this week esp.

Who cares? He has never said anything of any value to the press. Him and more importantly Coolmore need the media as a propaganda tool much more than the media need him, so I doubt this "ban" will stay in place for much longer, especially if Ballydoyle have a good season.

European Champion 2-Year-Old Filly Misty For Me (Galileo) makes her first start of the season in Sunday’s Qipco 1,000 Guineas where she will be joined by stablemates Together (Galileo) and Empowering (Encosta de Lago). Misty For Me will be ridden for the first time by Pat Smullen, Together will be ridden by Colm O Donoghue and Joseph O Brien will get the leg up on Empowering. "All three fillies are in great form, we expect that they will stay further in the future and we are hoping that they run well on Sunday."

High Chaparral’s brilliant New Zealand-bred son So You Think (pictured below), who won five Group 1’s for Bart Cummings in Australia over 9-10 furlongs, gets his season underway in Monday’s appropriately-named High Chaparral EBF Mooresbridge Stakes under Seamus Heffernan. In fairness the Melbourne press hate O'Brien and have for a long time. I remember been in Melbourne for Septimus run at the Melbourne cup and O'Brien was public enemy number 1 from touching down till leaving Australia.

Things are as they were so.

If he goes too far, Magnier will not thank him for turning the press against the Coolmore operation. In addition, if Joseph fails to make 9-0 for the Guineas on Sunday, I can see the Newmarket stewards refusing him permission to ride, which will really kick off things.

In fairness its seems the media are implying O Brien is a bit of a wierdo regarding jockeys. But anyone who knows history of Johnny Murtagh would have imagined Murtagh got the hump quickly when things changed.

I have sympathy with AOB regarding this one...Murtagh been given the boot plenty of times before and was riding fairly average last year anyhow.

Is it any clearer what happened between them anyways?

Anyone think that when put on the spot, he just isn't very good with words and can't articulate what he wants to say and just resorts to cliche. I can't see the upside of these kind of mundane comments.

I don't enjoy the usual spiel about speed to win a july cup blended with stamina to win ascot gold cup ,tho i realise that spin will always exist with potential future stallions earnings in mind(just imo coolmore over do it and hence less effective),however i still have the utmost respest and admiration for the training skills of o'brien.

Fallon used to be great for a quote, my favourite one was to do with George Washington and the Guineas when he said I think something like, 'he killed them in two strides', now coolmore could put that in their brochure.

A close friend of mine was a workrider for him 6-8 years ago.  He was 20 years old when he started and one weekend his mum and dad came to visit him and were shocked to see how light in weight he was.  They took him home for 4 days to feed him as they were worried about the weight loss.  When he returned aob told him "what ya back for? you lost your place"  His job was given to a young arab lad that was there.  Losing the job he loved nearly broke him.  I often got big priced pacemakers ew from him

Withot a doubt AoB has changed over the years. When this cycle in his life began he was punter friendly as in fairness he had been with the NH period.I remember being in Newmarket when Christy Roche won him a 2000G(probably 1998 Frankie won the 1000G the same year7/1 r so) and in those days he did not run more than 1r2 in the big races.I have no idea why he changed to this scattergun approach but I can see it continue when you see Together go so close at a big price...In those past times one could go and have a lumpy bet on AP's in the big races and a stable mate wouln't beat you...probably changed when High Chaparral won Derby....
