I tried booking a client of mine into a hotel in Galway City for Fri and Sat.  I have booked the same man into the same hotel for the past 3 years, usually costing €75 - €90 per night.  Now they want €135 per nightLaugh  I asked the receptionist to check the file and check the rates he got last year and she told me its the best she could do for a "repeat client"  After checking the local guesthouses I found one for €35(room only) per night(with parking). I know its a bank holiday but the hotels have loads of rooms available.  The bastarding ferries are also taking the p1ss charging UK visitors €400 to come in their Jeep.  I rely on angling tourism and my clients like to take all their rods etc. so its too difficult to get fishing gear through the airports.  I have dropped my rates to be competitive but the silly greed is still there.  Makes me furious tbh.

Receptionist.

Did you try talking to the manager?

She told me she was the accomadation manager.  Found out today the place has changed hands.  They will learn eventually.  I have worked in a hotel for 15 years and we are down from €127 b&b to €80 now.

I hear some of the golf courses have wised up and will talk to prospective visitors without trying to screw them to the wall .  It is very short sighted to overcharge visitors , they will never come back  , but that happened a lot during the Celtic Tiger era , especially the golf clubs .  They are now reaping the results , lots of them on their knees . The wiser ones are trying a bit harder though .

We have some of the best fishing and golf facilities in the world , OK for the golf the weather is a big factor , but dont think that applies particularly to the fishing . Grass and water we do well .
