With Ballydoyle in financial trouble i can see Aiden OBrien becoming a National Hunt trainer again. There is building going on in Pilttown so i can see a move back and for the double what odds his son being stable jockey.

Ballydoyle in financial trouble? Says who?
Report neill d April 19, 2011 11:27 AM BST
Haven't heard about the troubled finances, but what you say makes a fair bit of sense, its a pressurised environment and then there is the Wachman element to it all. It wouldn't surprise me, but surely he'd be dual purpose.

Financial trouble??????????????????????explain wildman??????????????
Report wildmanfromborneo April 19, 2011 6:34 PM BST
I have no links but this feud with Sheikh Mohammed is taking its toll, they are not buying any Coolmore stock that is affecting the commercial breeders who are in turn not using the Coolmore stallions as much as they did in the past. They are also selling their horses, another sign of financial pressure,Fame And Glory now running in the colours of Mrs Fitri Hay these are all new departures.I am not against Ballydoyle or Coolmore, indeed i admire both,am just making observations.
Report dj876 April 19, 2011 6:45 PM BST
selling their horses??only sold a share in fame and glory and who wud blame em,magnier likes to bring in new partners at the right price. The feud with sheikh mo is going on with 8 years and while i think godolphin might have the better up and coming stallions,to suggest that coolmore is in financial trouble is ludricous  !!!!!!
Report wildmanfromborneo April 19, 2011 7:06 PM BST
They have sold lots of horses to South Africa and a share in Cape Blanco and more tellingly they have tried to sue for peace using Cape Blanco by running him in Dubai. There have been massive losses on the stock market and few wealthy people have been left unscathed i genuinely hope they have escaped these financial pitfalls but have my doubts.
Report dj876 April 19, 2011 7:16 PM BST
have always sold horses to de kock,ur original post states "With Ballydoyle in financial trouble" like its a fact,at least u now admit its a guess (poor one imo)with little or no logic to back it up.
Report wildmanfromborneo April 19, 2011 7:34 PM BST
Is there no logic in Magnier trying to patch up his differences with Sheikh Mohammed, this proud man rarely backs down,is there no logic when the commercial breeders have intimated they will not use Coolmore stock unless they get the Arabs back buying,is there no logic in their new found gambling prowess,is there no logic in the dictat sent to Aiden OBrien telling him to target prize money. It would be remarkable if Ballydoyle was the only organisation not feeling the chill wind of recession.
Report Bigwillystyle April 19, 2011 7:37 PM BST
Lads I have been saying for months that Wildclown hasn't a clue. Most of d horses that are sold to De Kock are sour and not top class. They don't improve once they leave.

Report neill d April 19, 2011 7:45 PM BST
TBF De Kock got a good tune ouy of Eagle Mountain and Archipenko, but I'd reckon they don't indend standing F&G anywhere only Coolmore NH with his profile and Its always been said that CB is not a flashy horse, looks plain enough and only does just enough. They have a 'sexier' son of Gallileo in RVW imo. I'm not surprised they sold shares in these as they probable aren't top class stallion prospects. When certain observers saw how ordinary looking CB was at the Dante meeting last season, they were incredulous that he could be their Derby horse. I don't think AOB will be there forever though.
Report dj876 April 19, 2011 7:45 PM BST

I doubt he is fishing tbh.
Report neill d April 19, 2011 8:00 PM BST
Tbf F&G and CB were two of their three best horses last season, do they normally sell two of their three best horses from the previous season, something has changed and it would be naive to think ass is going well down there. They desperately need to diversify in their stallion ranks as Gallileo is carrying the show. they need a top class miler basically, they haven't really filled that George Washington shaped gap.
Report mitch leary April 19, 2011 8:03 PM BST

Report dj876 April 19, 2011 8:03 PM BST
neil, they have only sold shares in both horses, maybe trying to get hay aboard as a partner in long run,its not that long ago that derrick smyth bought in.
Report neill d April 19, 2011 8:05 PM BST
Ya good point, could be.
Report wildmanfromborneo April 19, 2011 8:09 PM BST
Magnier has always punted but this year they have got their act together. They have had three major punts this year Empowering at Leopardstown backed from 14/1 to 5/1,Marksmanship at the Curragh backed from 7/1 to 7/2,and Quest For Peace at Leopardstown backed from 3/1 to 6/4 all three were brilliantly executed.Normally Magnier would be backing at short odds but they have managed to stop all leaks hence the big prices.
dj876 you have become an acolyte,a follower of Bigwillystyle, in your efforts to denigrate me you use his words very unoriginal, try thinking for yourself.
Report GANT007 April 19, 2011 8:11 PM BST
Bottom line is by letting Mrs Hay into the club they will have first call if she ever has a horse that is stallion material...........the money she and her hubby are spending they might get a proper one.
Coolmore run a tight ship and a bit of new blood and cash I'm sure will never be refused.
Report dj876 April 19, 2011 8:11 PM BST
Who is big willy?magnier doesnt punt fact, tabor does.
Report GANT007 April 19, 2011 8:15 PM BST
Magnier does punt but he won't be walking the ring in Leopardstown or the Curragh.........most of the bookies there can scrape their nails along the bottom inside of the satchel.
Magnier is known to punt on the golf.
Report neill d April 19, 2011 8:16 PM BST
Good point Gant, though apparently Paul Cole can run through a lot of cash without buying anything decent. They could be waiting............
Report wildmanfromborneo April 19, 2011 8:17 PM BST
Tabor punts regularly, Magnier is much more selective and they left Tabor out of the three gambles i outlined, again new policy.

The wages and suppliers at Ballydoyle are paid to date and nobody has been taken off the payroll due to financial trouble.
Aidan and Ann Marie have no claim to the Pilltown yard and are urging Joseph to further his education.
Maybe Joseph might ride over the obstacles or take 6 months out and reinvent himself as an amateur NH rider.
I'm certain that the pilltown yard has more than enough stables at the moment.

I think all training establishments are under financial pressure now.Other posters seem to think i am against Ballydoyle and Coolmore nothing could be further from the truth i have long been an admirer of both.Their sporting excellence and efficency has brought nothing but glory to Ireland and i have enjoyed their victories starting with Long Look and Glad Rags.

Coolmore in Financial Trouble??

Please

40 Million So You Think
15 Million Lucking at Lucky
10 Million StarspanngledBanner
5-7.5 Million Canford Cliffs

1.2 Million spent on the dearest yearling in Europe
900,000 2nd Dearest Yearling

Doesn't seem to any trouble in fact looks like they are re-investing Darley style to negate the massive problem of their stock not be diversified enough compared to they rivals Darley to ensure long term Growth further
Report wildmanfromborneo April 19, 2011 11:29 PM BST
Mightymoyes...Tabor uses agents they take all the fancy prices so they were always playing at the bottom of the market,by dealing him out they were able to surprise the market and get the high prices as shown by the three gambles i have already alluded to.
Rubyisgodinthesaddle..You make some very strong points but it is of interest that Magnier has tried to patch up his differences with Sheikh Mohammed.
On a general point some people have gone broke that most would have thought impossible Nelson Bunker Hunt and Robert Maxwell spring to mind,i am not suggesting Coolmore or Ballydoyle are going that way but they are feeling the pressure.

Wildman....

I have noticed fewer entries for their horses Re: Derby....not leaving the 70 odd they used to in and i am sure their is some bit of cutting back on costs. You are right regards the supposed makeup with Darley but i don't think its based on lets say any friendship more like something from the sopranos like "its bad for business" as evidence is that it is bad for business.

The complete ineptitude of the Godolphin training ranks has actually undermined the great strides Darley in Australia and America has made as well as Europe. They have so many horses in training from so many sire lines coolmore have realised they need to bring the mutual respect to the table as they were the first ones to buy stock a Street Cry Colt and i think a Mare carrying a street colt in the States last Summer/Autumn.

It will be interesting to see how it progresses and hopefully the good battles between the 2 superpowers happen more and more in the big races as it is exciting.

Dont underestimate the a trainer have the best bred yearlings in the world every year how difficult it is to turn your back on it. We might think its straight forward but his life is heaven and while he is a workcholic i we very much doubt he she's it this way.

He couldn't turn away from that...
