Have Dermot Weld and the Moyglare Stud gone mad ?

She isnt as well bred as most of Moyglares fillies. Why not race her away for another year or two, she'll probably earn more on the racecourse than her first foal would make as a yearling. The fact that they sent her over hurdles in the first place says a lot in itself.

Richie Galway said today the ground will be real well watered. The odd trainer complained that it was overwatered and dead.

He said he prefers it to be that way rather than having horses broken down.

Weld hasn't a clue. Running a hurdler in the Royal Gold Cup has not gone down well in certain quarters I can assure you. The cheek of it!

The connections dont have to worry about money.  The main reason people get involved in racing is because it is supposed to be fun.  Look at the fun they have had with Majestic Concorde.  MC might even win the National!

Moyglare do not own Majestic Concorde,Unaccompanied is their first runner over hurdles.Am not so sure about them not worried about money they are a commercial operation and running this filly over hurdles is a risk,it also devalues her i am amazed they agreed to it.
There is no denying the brilliance of Dermot Weld as a trainer and my post is not a criticism of him.

You are absolutely criticising DK Weld. First you suggest that he is 'mad' and then you suggest that Moyglare 'agreed' to run the mare over hurdles, implying that this was all DK Weld's idea.

Sticking a pathetic caveat on the end of your posts does not alter their content. It's a bit like saying, 'with all due respect, you are a gob****'.

Regarding Unaccompanied, while her win at the weekend was a decent performance, she beat a 33/1 shot who was well exposed in handicap company and a horse who did not perform to anything like his previous best form. She's certainly improving, but some listed races don't take a whole lot of winning and that was probably one. Suggesting that she is now too valuable to go hurdling is nonsense.

DK Weld, Johnny Ward, all the greats of Irish racing are getting it in the neck here lately. Is nothing sacred???

I am not criticising Dermot Welds training ability but accept your point that my post is a criticism of this decision.

I don't think there is any anger in my post. Perhaps my writing style is just more forceful than most. I'm an extremely laid back individual.

Who said the ground would be fast at Punchestown.
I do agree she loves it deep though. Watch the replay of the Curragh again and look at her action as the race almost head on to the camera dow nthe hill into the straight. I'd say she would go on very heavy ground. Most unusual for a Moyglare horse.

Unaccompanied did not like the ground today and ran listlessly and it was sad to me to watch a listed flat winner labouring over hurdles also dangerous.She is by Danehill Dancer out of a Saddlers Wells mare surely she is a valuable broodmare or is that the bloodstock business is in such dire straits that the prize money for Hurdle races is more lucrative than a potential stud career.

I don't know if this has escaped your attentiion borneo? but the owner of Moyglare is filthy rich, he is over 100 years old and the oldest person worth more than a billion dollars.

I presume you mean Walter Haefner and i must say i wasnt aware if he was alive or dead but as the Moyglare Stud is a commercial enterprise it is irrelevant.This is the first horse the Moyglare Stud have raced over hurdles so it is hardly for the enjoyment of Mr Haefner otherwise they would have popped some others over hurdles over the last fifty years.This is a new departure thats why i find it so strange also doing form for Punchestown and looking up The Curragh,Chester and St Nicholas Abbey.

Fair point wildman, but its not a commercial enterprise in the real sense of the word, it was for many years essentially an owner breeder operation, a few year back they had a shift in policy and actually sold yearligs publicly.
And now they have a horse running over jumps, maybe another shift is imminent, but as you noticed its still the same trainer?

Moyglare have cut back bigtime on breeding in the last few years they also let a few staff go........I know the lady who is the caretaker in the house.....Mr. Haefners daughter is the studs figure head but the same lads call the shots......Whats to say unnacompanied still can't throw them a derby winner just because she jumped a hurdle...........nothing to lose in my opinion.

Eva Maria has taken over her father's interest in Moyglare and she seems to like two things (1) fillies (like Profiund Beauty and Unaccompanied) and (2) jumpers. Natural High was the first bumper winner they had and now Unaccompanied over jumps. In the past, Smurfit would have acquired these types like Rare Holiday etc. Lambe is the new buyer but he seems to be quite content with what he has at the moment. So I think they've decided to expand the operation into limited national hunt runners and I wouldn't be surprised to see them with another next season. It gives them all year round racing. Nothing wrong with that.

Branching out into National Hunt racing is all very well with colts and geldings but not with one of your listed fillies.Unaccompanied is a pure soft ground filly and given that ground will win plenty of flat races without the danger of jumps that would seem to me the way forward.
