Was at the Curragh today and thought this race will throw many winners and maybe a few top class horses.Four horses backed for serious money Marksmanship,Notable Graduate,Zanughan and Parkers Mill and they gave the two leaders Its Freezing and Brown Butterfly a healthy lead.Marksmanship was first to chase followed by Notable Graduate,Zanughan and Parkers Mill appeared to be just looking on,the way they closed the gap was visually impressive especially Zanughan and Parkers Mill. The winner Marksmanship was backed from 8/1 into 7/2 landing another gamble for Ballydoyle following Empowering backed from 12/1 into 11/2 at Leopardstown last sunday, they seem to have learned some new gambling tricks they normally have to trade at short prices but they got on big money at prices they are not used to,he is destined for higher things.Notable Graduate will definitely win his maiden maybe when upped to a mile and a half.Zanughan is listed class at least and was given an easy introduction.I dont like using the term not trying but Parkers Mill appeared to get an educational and to me he is a certainty to win next time out,it will be interesting to look back on this maiden in a few months time to count the winners that have emerged from this hot maiden.

Wholly agree Wildman, I think we may have seen a classic winner, but not a Derby winner.

a step up in distance  for zanughan and he's a cert ...been shoved along turning in... he went inside then took him out and finally back in again .he flew home ....i also thought the winner ran a touch green inside the last furlong and there is more to come from him ...

Might not pay to get too carried away with it. The time was over 2 seconds slower than Unaccompanied. Torphichen also almost 2 secs quicker later on.
The winner was in the best place possible to exploit the fractions. Good ride.

Excellent points Giant Strides was unaware of the time,it is an old failing of mine to rely on my initial impression of a race.I also agree with your point about the winner being best positioned thats why the two i liked most were Zanughan and Parkers Mill.

makes the performance of the Weld horse more meritable off the slow pace

I'd be in Neills camp here. I think the slowish time endorses the strength of the performances of the horses mentioned. The two that kicked clear early in the straight were at a serious tactical advantage. They be worth taking on if they go off a short price the next day I think. Oxxs was probably the most impressive performance in the race, but the winner was very good too.

Official Curragh times yesterday are, once more, wrong (more wrong than usual). Corrected times will appear as usual in Timeform Perspective

and the Ballydoyle boys knew they had a real good one too by heavily punting this one.

As said it is likely to be found to have been a real strong maiden with maybe 4 or 5 winners coming out of it.

What the fook is going on here?
There`s discrepancies and then there`s embarrassing.
How hard is it to time a race? Obviously very if you`re involved in Irish racing!
JOKERS.

Why are there so many apologists on this forum for jockeys?
I find it baffling tbh.

Without being too controversial, it was pretty workmanlike for a 2/5 shot imo. The second came from further back on debut.
As a matter of interest what was your take on that ride at Tipp JTOTDL?

I don't think GS that you are being in any way controversial in your summary of Zanughan's win probably a fair assessment....as for the Tipperary run of the second to Notable Graduate ...Laughvery similar to Zanughan's run behind Markmanship although JP was pushing along a fair bit on the last bend, stayed onto finish well, with kid-glove treatment late on,Laughthis horse has a big Curragh entry in July..got some work to do to make that engagement but in any event all aboard next time out..GS nobody seems to take a bit of notice of the top stables contiually using the racecourse for educational purposesLaughLaugh

Indeed. Once you reach the top rank you`re allowed a lot more leeway.
My issue with it was not the lack of effort made late on, but the blatant decision to not let Kasanka go forward from the stalls when she looked quite capable of doing so. She was never going to win not because she wasn`t good enough but because she was asked to pick up from a position she should never have been in to begin with.
It was to the fillies credit that she actually settled despite being reined back.
I expect she will turn out to be better than all those Aga Khan animals that have been discussed here recently.

Kasanka one to keep an eye on so GS..what a great record this stable has with the fillies..and I agre with you as she did break well and as you say was reined back... and a long ways back goin down the back straight..
