I agree. Which is hard for me to say as I dislike the bloke Laugh

But he is a master tactician, strong and there's nobody else i'd want in the saddle on one i've backed.
Report punchestown March 16, 2011 2:35 AM GMT
Without wanting to leave a hostage to fortune but is without a doubt the finest exponent we've ever seen of the art of  jump race riding,no better jockey has ever thrown his leg over a horse Laugh

One of the best ever but anyone who saw the great Martin Moloney would disagree.
Report Giant Strides March 17, 2011 9:15 AM GMT
No eulogies yesterday!?
Fickle.
Report JayTrumpOldTomDubbl March 17, 2011 9:41 AM GMT
I think most people kinda accept that class is permanent...a few great chances 2day again and from what info Paul Nichols is putting out he will be stunned if Big Bucks gets turned over.....
Report Giant Strides March 17, 2011 10:01 AM GMT
He was quite clearly on the best horse in two of those races and the other one fell into his lap.
No doubt he`ll ride a treble again today and I`ll have egg on my face as usual but Townend could have won on both Mullins horses on Tuesday.
Report workrider March 17, 2011 11:27 AM GMT
i reluctantly have to agree that ruby is the best i've ever seen ..not to keen on him as a person not that it worries him and cant seem to catch him when hes on a run ....but as a jockey hes simply the best and i've seen lots ....been going racing since late 60s ....
Report scoobyknows March 17, 2011 12:19 PM GMT
Yes!
Report Giant Strides March 17, 2011 12:33 PM GMT
I`d respect your opinion on that wr, but as you say, very hard to like the guy.
Report scoobyknows March 17, 2011 12:52 PM GMT
Gentleman of the Highest order,He is from Cork stock so that air of confidence is merited!
Report Newmanix March 17, 2011 1:09 PM GMT
He's a cute hoor.
Report punchestown March 17, 2011 1:25 PM GMT

Sivota never travelled in the race and was being niggled in last place going out on the second circuit.
Report SatelliteFlight March 17, 2011 2:18 PM GMT
Seriously punch? I didn't notice that but looked to be travelling well coming into the straight but was way too far out of his ground
Report punchestown March 17, 2011 2:22 PM GMT
Yeah Satelitte,he was never on the bridle at any stage,my eyes were glued to Ruby there,as I said stone last going out on the final circuit, and he honestly persisted where many others might have given up.
Report SatelliteFlight March 17, 2011 2:25 PM GMT
I'll have a scan of the race again after racing [;)]
Report punchestown March 17, 2011 2:27 PM GMT

Magic Laugh...even without the stick[;)] great show of strength from horse and rider....
Report MJK March 17, 2011 9:05 PM GMT
Brilliant jockey. Dunwoody has always been my favourite and I've no doubt he would ride the same winners Ruby does if he had've had the Nicholls/Mullins ammo. Not Ruby's fault of course, and he had to be good to get the two jobs in the first place.
Report SatelliteFlight March 18, 2011 8:32 AM GMT
Just watched it again punch, watching it more closely it looks like they are always going a yard too quick for him. He didn't jump the hurdle well leaving the stands after a circuit and dropped to last and got niggled a bit, then got pushed along a bit after the 2nd in the back and the 3rd, was then ridden down the hill but looking back on it everything seemed to happen too quickly for him. Perhaps he needs the ground softer? Anyway after studying it more closely i'd take back my statement
Report heynoodles March 18, 2011 10:11 AM GMT
absolute genius i dont know how anyone could have been better
Report punchestown March 18, 2011 12:34 PM GMT
Sat,fair play to you and you're bang on about the ground for Sivota.
Report MJK March 18, 2011 12:50 PM GMT
The ground didn't seem to be a problem at Punchestown last season Laugh Anyway for balance here's the RP close up 'Sivota, two places behind Son Amix at Leopardstown, probably should have reversed form, being held up right at the back before finishing strongly'.
Report damien1166 March 18, 2011 1:41 PM GMT

Ruby is on Denman this weekend at Aintree...........and will he replace Daryl Jacob on the triumph winner who must surely take all the beating in the 4yr old hurdle...faster track better ground made for him??

I think if Tommy Carberry was riding in this day and about the same age as Ruby and riding for Nicholls and Mullins he'd have made Ruby look second string.
Report workrider April 5, 2011 11:33 AM BST
anaglogs , ive been previliged to see them both and i have to say ruby is better ....but for the life of me just cant back him on a winner ..i was the same with pat edderry...tommy was special though able to do it from the front as well as from off the pace...
Report wildmanfromborneo April 5, 2011 11:36 AM BST
Tommy Carberry was also a talented flat rider and won the Birdcatcher nursery for Vincent OBrien in the twilight of his career.
Report JayTrumpOldTomDubbl April 5, 2011 12:41 PM BST
Tommy Carbery was a top man and will always be grateful for L'Escargot Aintree 1975 [;)][;)] ....however todays jockeys are subjected to much stricter rules adn are subjected to regular testing and are probably much fitter.... in similiar way as the GAA players are today......but to see T Carbery down to ride was worth the admission fee alone...Ruby very dedicated to his profession.............
Report wildmanfromborneo April 5, 2011 1:03 PM BST
If todays ludicrous rules applied then we would never have seen the great Tommy Carberry ride from 1965 onwards, another good reason for H.R.I.to sack the odious and expensive Al Guy.
Report Anaglogs Daughter April 5, 2011 1:55 PM BST
Tommy and i went around Cheltenham as if we were jumping twigs. I told him "you just sit tight and steer and i'll do the rest" Silly
Report punchestown April 5, 2011 2:11 PM BST
Tommy Carmody was outstanding in his day, would show Paul Carberry how not to f@nny around whilst still looking polished.
